Goto N 31.29870 W 93.69879 & tell me what y'all see ;)

Until I get 5 people to respond I'll not answer!

I will step up to the plate.  This is the type of class that I am talking about.  We better get some responses, are I am going to have to have 5 different names ;D

Okay here goes:

I see a main lake point that is adjacent to a huge flat on the right.  To the left of this point is another main lake point (correct or is it a secondary?).  However this point is in the mouth of Hurricane Creek.  Now to the right of the mark is an inverted finger (point).  This performs a ditch that would allow the fish to move up and down either left or right.  This ditch forms a ridge or ledge on the left or right that are close proximaty to one another.  On could sit in this ditch and fish it in our out and either left or right.  Sometimes called a highway for bass to move in and out.  The same applies to the left of the point as well, just not as distinct or defined as the right.

I also looked at the Hook n line map, while acme does not show the creek to the left of this point, the map does show a creek that feeds into Hausen Creek.

Lake level at time of observation is 167.95, so that means it is 4 ft low and the 150 line would make it 18ft.

I look forward to my grade.  Thanks Catt, I love this type of class.

i see a flat on a main lake rounded point,,,,i would concentrate my efforts at n31.29738 w93.69892, which appears to be narrower tapered point into deeper water on at least two sides-----update to my outing yesterday,,put in at 6.15am, went to north side west of island at hurricane creek and caught 3 on top water,,2 dinks, 1 3.5,,,sun got up and went to indian mounds, fishing outside edge of hydrilla on points, 1dink on craw worm, pardner broke 1 off, moved further in, pardner boated 2lber on senko,,went to sandy creek and pardner broke off dropshot,,,various frog fish along the way,,,storm blew in, and we went home,,,2 keepers boated,,,6 dinks, not getting wet, priceless

OK I give it a shot. I see (on acme map) a position where one might position your boat (being in about 15 ft of water at normal pool) so you could cast to the cut into the flat on your right and to the tapering point to your left. I see no creek chanel near. Question what are the next depth contour lines depth ranges?? 10 ft 20ft??   :-?

Hello. This is my first post on here. I have been lurking for a while reading this thread and I would like to thank Catt and everyone else for sharing their knowledge.

As for the area in question I could be wrong but there appears to be an old roadbed running along the deep water slot to the right of the point. Panning southwest in the topo view I see a similar slot directly in line with the one near the area in question. Coincidence? Maybe or maybe not. Looking north of the area on the satellite view I see an old road coming through the trees on shore running to the northwest then it appears to bend and run parallel with the slot. I also see offshore grass indicating a high spot. I believe the slot was formed by the presence of the road due to water running off the hill coming up against the road then running along side of it down toward Hurricane Bayou.

So given the contour lines are at 10 foot intervals there could be as much as 9 feet of depth in the slot down below the 150 contour line and also the road bed could be as much as 9 feet above the giving an 18 foot ledge. Which in my opinion would be the sharpest break into the deepest water in the area.

now 4 need one more, come on lurkers, lets post a response.  I don't want to beheld back.   ;)

Great everyone saw something different ;)

But if y'all zoom out a tad it would become apparent the from here following the "150" contour all around to the mouth of White Oak Creek is a huge grass flat called "Community Flat". Also while zoomed a 3rd "major" point appears over on the west side of Hurricane.

Ok Catt so what's the importance of this area?

I have now established the migration route of for the bass located on this flat into Hurricane and White Oak. So during spring/fall this is the type of structure pattern I would look for.

While zoomed out y'all can see another season structure pattern, I count 13 isolated humps with contour lines close together which means /fall/winter areas.

The normal full pool level of Toledo Bend Resivour is 172', so if I subtract 150' from 172' it gives me a depth of 22'. But if I look at the current lake level which is 167.84 and I subtract from that 150' it gives me a depth of 17.84 or the outside weed line (break line) because that is the approximate depth at which Hydrilla/Milfoil/Coon Tail Moss stops growing.

As our water temperature cools during Spring/Fall the bass on this flat will move shallower following bait fish.

Where is shallower?

Shallower is located in White Oak, in the cove between the 1st & 2nd major points and in Hurricane.

Bass must have a visible path of breaks and break lines on a structure from deep water all the way to the shallows. One visible path off that flat is the narrowed down area in front of that 1st major point and the second is White Oak Creek itself.

Now to thoroughly confuse y'all a percentage of the bass located on the extreme eastern areas will never move shallower than what's found there.

great explanation and i love that pattern i won a tournament this year with all 5 fish coming from white oak cove, (i call it a feeder lock cove) the way they stage in there. i actually caught a 7.42 casting over that fallen tree in the second cut. i like to use community and white oak cove as indicators, they are right by each other and makes it real easy to tell what the fish are doing and what they are holding on. makes it easier to establish a particular pattern

I have been one of those "lurkers" on this post for some time now and find if very instructional.  I read it daily.  I was having a difficult time following the last insructional series on my Hook-N-Line map and decided to go for the Hot Maps Explorer DVD.  I looked on Three Rivers site, located the Hot Maps Explorer and noted it didn't list Toledo Bend.  I called today and sure enough Toledo is not included in the Hot Maps Explorer.  Am I missing something?  Is there another more detailed map of Toledo and if so, where can I purchase it?

Thanks

Ranger 251, are you following us on Acme Mapper?

There are some very detailed maps available through the U.S. Geological Survey ;)

this flat is huge, would there be a contact point or are the bass scattered around the weed line,,you mentioned spring, fall, winter,,what about summer? I've gathered that you like to anchor a cast length from the grass and fish 360 around the boat,,but what are you looking for, as a starting point

Catt,

I have not been following on Acme Mapper.  I looked on the web site but frankly don't have a clue which map to get.   :-/ Is there any particular map on the US Geological Survey sight you recommend.

As always, thanks for the information and keep the classes coming.  I will get the correct maps and will start participating.

alwayslooking (Paul), "Community Flat" is productive Winter/Spring/Summer/Fall ;)

The bass are located all across this flat, our  required homework is map study and not just Acme Mapper but any we can get our hands on like those available through the USGS. I can promise y'all that after spending dozens of hours in both day light and darkness on this flat there are many places within the 150' range that do not show up on Acme Mapper Topo because the contour lines are to far apart.

Ranger 251 I'll see if I can get you some #s to order!

TBendBassin,

Many thanks, I have it saved in my favorites.  I looked around it tonight but will need more time to get familiar with it.  Any information I can get my hands will greatly help.

I joined this site the latter part of last year but it is one of my daily must reads.  I have learned more on this site about TB than any other thanks to Catt, Jack and others.

Having fished the TB tournament earlier this year with Jack and some of the other members was a blast as well.

I am looking forward to learning as much as I can.
