Not just the hills, ridges, valleys but timber. From the Gulf of Mexico to Shreveport on both sides of the Sabine river is logging country. 4 Quote
RonnieF Posted February 5, 2022 Posted February 5, 2022 Kinda quiet up in here. I imagine it'll liven up pretty soon. I'll be headed up probably Monday for the warm up during the coming week. Last time up (early January) I caught on a number of things. Football jig & carolina rig trick worm throwing on an 11' flat that dropped off to 25'. I caught a few in at the entrance to a spawning pocket where the temp got up to 61 degrees(I imagine it's not that warm now). I also went to battle with what I thought was going to be a fat female on my jackhammer, only to find out it was a choupique that probably went 7+ lbs. Luckily I was able to get the lure back after two hard runs under the boat that I thought would snap my rod. I also caught a few fishing brush piles in my cove on tx rigged trick worms.  2 Quote
Clinton john Posted February 6, 2022 Posted February 6, 2022 Seen a article recently that sra picked a few spots and planted some aquatic grass to try and promote grass growth in the lake again. 3 Quote
Super User Catt Posted February 6, 2022 Author Super User Posted February 6, 2022 I'm trying to put a 4 days trip around the March full moon. 1 Quote

I saw some pvc structures for that just south of the Blue Lake chute. Maybe when they do clear cuts around the lake, water samples should be taken of the runoff. I don’t know how true it is, but I was told the land is sprayed so undergrowth doesn’t spring up immediately. Now that may be total bs. 1 Quote

Joe Mc Posted February 15, 2022 Posted February 15, 2022 Does anyone know the name of the first cove in Toro on the south side?  It has a small island in it.  It is before Army Rec. 1 Quote

Trox Posted February 16, 2022 Posted February 16, 2022 My buddy just won 10.5k out there last weekend fishing a kayak tournament (Hobie BOS). Heard it was fishing tough and took every bite to do it! 1 Quote

I think our teammate might be able to prefish about a week before. I cannot. Just trying to do a little homework. Btw.... we launch out of san miguel on the 5th and 6th as you may know. We can go anywhere.... But will likely stay close to this area. Maybe as far south as cypress bend for a few spots we know on the Texas side. And likely staying close to miguel and lanan for these other spots we like. But I will be scouring the hook & line map between now and then and looking at temps    1 Quote
Super User Catt Posted February 22, 2022 Author Super User Posted February 22, 2022 @PlanoSooner Water temperatures vary drastically from one area to the next, mid 50s is what I'm hearing  Wilson, Brittain, & Martinez creeks keep popping up in discussions.  1 Quote

PlanoSooner Posted February 22, 2022 Posted February 22, 2022 Thanks. I hate going when it is low, but we don't pick the dates. LOL We have a bunch of spots to try. Just trying to narrow things down. And this was very helpful. Thanks. And thanks to Catt. . Catt: I assume those creeks you mentioned just warm up sooner than others? Never been to any of them but we will be doing a lot of driving around and will take a look.    1 Quote

LovestoFish Posted February 22, 2022 Posted February 22, 2022 Funny u say that....saw a FB post a couple days ago where a guy caught over 50 bass in the blue lake area ? 1 Quote

Started monday and fished till mid day Wednesday.  Averaged 11 a day, first day 1 keeper, 2nd day 6 keepers, yesterday 6 keepers.  No big girls.  Not many fish up on San Miguel. We caught in 1 to 4 foot of water, most fish cruising on sand bars.  As always fishing pressure is high this time of year.  Baits used were sqaure bill cranks in pearl and black back and chartreuse/black back. 4 inch swimbait in watermelon red and ghost shad color.  Went out alone today for a bit of a shack out run, had some motor work done yesterday, stopped at a cove close to the house, fish for 2 hours.  Hook 5 out of 6 bites. Nothing legal length all bites came on a watermelon red swimbait.  We need more water. 2 Quote
