I fished the Bend this week too.

Started Prefishing Tuesday in San Migel and Marked quite a Few Staging Fish, but could not get a bite.

Wed. - Spent all day in San Migel and caught 3.  1 in 8foot of water over grass on the edge of a good flat on a Spinnerbait and 1 on a Dock in 10 foot of water on a brush hog and then ended the day around the islands by the state park and picked another flipping fish up out of buckbrush in 4 foot of water.

Thurs. - Started in Lowes and hit a Flat and a point that has always produced some weighfish for me.  after 4 hours throwing traps spinnerbaits and texas rigs I hooked up with a GOOD fish in 6 foot of water on the point  but lost her half way to the boat.  moved across to negreet and fished all the points between the 2 salters and zeroed.  then moved in and checked the pipeline in both and had on bite that took the tail off my lizzard, probably a spot.

Friday- Worked the bluelake area and picked up a few nice fish in 5-8 foot of water on traps and Spinnerbaits .

Sat morning- Startted our tourney in Bluelake and our drain that was producing friday was Dead. No fish after 3 hours so moved to our secondary spot, another drain. and just got lucky enough to see a 3 lber chase some bait up beside the boat. the shad they were keying on was very small.  So tied on a 2.5 in mattshad swimbait and ripped it through the grass in the bottom of the drain. Started hooking up with some good fish but had a hard time keping them hooked up on the small hook.   :'(  Wound up with a small limit.

Sunday went back to the same drain and caught an under on the third cast and never had another bite.

Toughest Fishing I have ever had on the Bend. But it is ready to Explode!! Just need a few day of good weather and it is going to be ON!!  ;)

Leaving Thursday morning at 2:30AM from BR to head to Toledo until Sunday afternoon!  Can't wait!  Looks like we're going to get chilly mornings with lows anywhere from mid 30s to low 40s, but highs each day in the mid 60s while we're there...with a lot of sunshine.  Full moon was this past Sunday night too, so I'm guessing there will be some fish shallow and that we should have a pretty good afternoon bite each day.  We'll see I guess.  If anyone has some last minute advice/info for us, that would be great.  I only get to make maybe 2 trips to Toledo per year, I like to make them count.  Thanks!

What part of the lake are you planning on fishing?

We'll be staying at Alpine, so we'll be fishing the Palo Gaucho area quite a bit..also probably will fish the Negreet area, those are the two areas we're most familiar with.  We do plan to explore some new areas further north this year though..maybe over in San Miguel, the "1215 area", and maybe even more north than that.  We'll see.  But those are the main areas..

I Heard that the 1215 area is like chocolate milk right now. a friend of mine fished the LOBI and finished, i believe, 128th. He sayed that they had to go south of Pendleton and got up a creek their somewhere and caught their fish. Does anyone know how I can get in touch with someone that deals with the Cypress bend area. The website hosting the National Highschool Tournament has been deleted or something and I would like to know if they are still having it?

1215 is hit and miss with the water color.  There was some pocket with 3' of vis sunday.  ;)

That is the great thing about the bend it can clear very quickly!

The Lake Level is at 172.22 which is up a foot since last Wednesday and a 1 3/4' in the last 10 days.

So what does that mean Catt?

It means the bass can now move farther back in the brush limiting access to bigger boats.

It also means where you caught em last weekend they aint there no more!

The 7 day forecast calls for a gradual warming trend, I would start moving shallower and to the back of coves.

Leave us a few CATT!!   ;)  Great info about the water coming up almost 2 feet in the last 10 days!   :o  That combined with sunday's full moon and rising temps should move some more fish further up shallow, makes sense to me!  Thanks again!!

heckuva day Catt , I ain't heard any reports NEAR that good. We are struggling, fished from 1230 - 1730 and had 3 bites in Lowes, 1 flippin a senko in the bushes and 2 on a spinnerbait that came late in the day. There is more and more water between the bushes and the bank everyday.

While I don't see a lot of numbers being caught so far this spawn the quality has been there and is slowly growing.

My typical Feb/March bite is 5-6 tight-eyes (small males) to 1 keeper, this year it's more like 2-3:1.

I read George Jeane Jr won the FLW/BFL Cowboy Division held on February 20th. with a 5 bass sack that weighed 18 lbs 3 ozs & a 10 lb 9 oz kicker.

That puts his other 4 bass at a little over 2 lbs.  ;)

Ok, lets look at La Nana north cove 105 on the hook n line map.

Starting to the southwest of it at junction 36a, the main river chanel splits. Continuing on the channel going east into La nana there is a old creek/River bed that goes directly north into the first creek (105).

This is what i'm having trouble with is distinguishing the contour lines. I understand that the closer the contour lines the faster the slope

Hi Bayou Express, I'm new to the lake but knew exactly where you were talking about. I have an image just above the 36a starting point you described. If you use a lake maps premium chip you will see one foot contours, this helps immensely. Apparently, bass don't like to swim up and over things they follow the contours at the level they are feeding in I guess, so that's what makes following structure so important to know where the fish are coming from and going to? I just need to understand the why under every condition and day of the season....I have a lot to learn! Best, ~jj

anymore la nana underwater info?   ;)

Catt, went to the area we talked about and the first cast of the morning was at straight up 7 o'clock, fish on, 13 3/4 inch, then the next 3 cast back to back triplets, 2#s each, then my partner catches a 3 1/2#.  we caught about 10 fish total but only were able to weigh the 4 for a total of 9.43.  we had a big fish on but never got it turned or seen.

Look forward to the end of the month meet up.
