Nitreaux Posted July 16, 2018 Posted July 16, 2018 Wow, that’s quite a treasure Catt. I’m guessing it helps to know what log piles look like on a sonar when you know where they are located plus knowing where timber lines are now that most the trees are broke off above the water. 2 Quote
Super User Catt Posted July 16, 2018 Author Super User Posted July 16, 2018 Today's electronics are unbelievable!  Knowing what you're looking at on any unit is important but more importantly is putting the whole picture together.  If y'all wanna learn that Spring Hill point spend some time on it.  I see guys pull up on that point, make one pass up the middle & leave because they didn't see any fish.  I guarantee ya the fish are there!  I pull up on that point, I don't start graphing, I start fishing watching the graph the whole time. 4 Quote
Amateur Hour Posted July 16, 2018 Posted July 16, 2018 I had the navionics + south in my lowrance units and it was adequate for toledo bend. Since my change to humminbirds I now use lakemaster. I have to say lakemaster is 1000X better than navionics on toledo bend.  5 Quote
jcdogfish Posted July 17, 2018 Posted July 17, 2018 I agree with the 2 posts right above. Going to humminbirds from lowrance I have to say the lakemaster card is night and day difference for Toledo Bend. The Lakemaster has so much more and accurate details.  With that said, I do catch myself buzzing over areas looking at the mapping instead of finding the cover on the area and fishing the area. Big mistake. Great mapping makes it easier to find the areas but you still have to pinpoint the cover or structure the fish are using at the time. You still have to catch the fish. I tend to always be looking for the big groups of fish I can see easily. Si and DI are great to scan an area but I like the old 2d when on the trolling motor. 3 Quote
Nitreaux Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 UPDATE on map cards...I just came across another card compatible with Lowrance electronics. It is the Fishing Hot Spots Pro USA Chip 2018. Check it out on Tackle Warehouse. I don’t know how it compares with Navionics but it is another option for Lowrance users. 3 Quote

jcdogfish Posted July 19, 2018 Posted July 19, 2018 You can try calling Keiths Tackle. If he does not have them I bet he can tell you how to get one. 2 Quote
Nitreaux Posted July 19, 2018 Posted July 19, 2018 I bought one at Toledo Tackle a few years back. If Keith's don't have them call Toledo tackle and ask if they still have them. 2 Quote
TexasTiger Posted July 20, 2018 Posted July 20, 2018 New to TB started the retirerment plan and bought a waterfront house in Beechwood 1. now the old itch is back and its hard to scratch the information in this thread is AMAZING to say the least. I can see I will need to venture out more as IÂ learn the lake and the helix 9. It seems TB is going thru what Conroe did after the Grass carp were put in so the skiers could have fun. I hear you Catt the fish have adapted but the fishermen have not. Â Will be reading and looking at the map to sharpen my way of looking at apiece of water. Â To all of you that have contributed to this OUTSTANDING post and kept it going with so much knowlege. Â THANK YOU from a Texan that was smart enough to marry a Cajun gal. 4 1 Quote

Ranger Guy Posted July 22, 2018 Posted July 22, 2018 Hey guys thanks for the add on here . I have been reading a lot on here. Great stuff. I recently bought a camp near Shadows Landing. I have been fishing Been negreet a lot and I think its Slaughters creek area and the turtle beach area for the past couple of months. Boys I am getting my butt kicked out here . I have tried early and late even one night fishing trip. For the most part I have been getting skunked or dinks but mainly just a couple bites each outing. Fishing early till about 10 or 11 after that its too hot. Mr Catt hopefully you or some of the guys can help me out as a specific place to start fishing or presentation anything would be helpful at this point. I fished deep last weekend to no avail as well. I primarily threw a Texas rig baby brush hog. But I also threw c-r and crankbait. Anyways thanks in advance for any response to my plea for help. Lol 1 Quote
jasondaily Posted July 23, 2018 Posted July 23, 2018 Hello all, went to Toledo bend this weekend (July 21st) and the water was soooo choppy. It was crazy. I don't have any experience in super choppy/windy conditions. Can someone give a few tips and tricks?   Top water baits? shallow or deep?  docks or shoreline? Crankbaits or swimbaits?   Really any information will will be helpful. Thanks in advance   if anyone fishes by themself on TB I'd love to tag along and learn a few things. I'll pay for gas and lunch. Quote
Super User Catt Posted July 23, 2018 Author Super User Posted July 23, 2018 @jasondaily We have to look at which direction the wind is blowing from. Depending on wind direction it will blow straight down many major creek channel coves. Â We also have to consider boat size, if we're in smaller boats then we maybe better off trailering. Â As for techniques I don't try to change based on wind, instead I try adjusting locations. 2 Quote

I always try to fish the areas or spots no matter if shallow or deep that the wind would be blowing the shad into. 1 Quote
