Wesley Posted February 21, 2010 Posted February 21, 2010 This cold front is not going to be near as bad as last weeks was. Hopefuly it wont give them lockjaw for 5 days straight after it. Quote
bullet20 Posted February 21, 2010 Posted February 21, 2010 Fishing T.B. wed. to sun. do u guy's think they will have some bedding fish,or still a lil early?Last year i was too late, about 2 weeks too late and missed them. Quote
5Biguns Posted February 22, 2010 Posted February 22, 2010 This Year you are definately not going to be too late. If you see any fish on beds it is probably going to be males with the water temps still being cool. BUT the Females should be in Shallower water as the week goes on and gets closer to the full moon. Wesley Posted February 22, 2010 Posted February 22, 2010 we still have 2 cold fronts moving in the next 2 weeks. They will come up shallow then be driven back. Quote
Super User Catt Posted February 22, 2010 Author Super User Posted February 22, 2010 02/21/2010 6:30 a.m. Lake level: 170.87 Generator 1: Currently shut down Generator 2: Currently running 24hrs Spillway Gates: Closed Current Waterflow: 6754 CFS Water Temperatures: 48-55 degrees. Water clarity: mostly stained every where Great job Wesley! I was on the lake Saturday about 9 am till dark & Sunday 8 am till dark and believe me y'all aint late. I spent the entire time in 6-Mile from about Miles Creek all the way to the back. Saturday I caught my first bass by 11 and not another until about 4:45 pm; the first one came on a spinner bait in the back of a creek near buck brush and 2' of water. The next 2 came on Texas Rigged worms in 12' of water off a point and that was the grand total of the days out put. Sunday I didn't boat a single bass until 3:40 pm and then boated 4 more for a grand total of 5 for the day. Again all of these bass came of Texas Rigged plastic, 3 on a worm, 1 on a Craw worm, & 1 on a Baby Brush Hog. All 8 bass were cookie cutters in the 3-5 pound range and most likely males; other than the single bass caught shallow all were staging in about 8-12'. Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted February 22, 2010 Super User Posted February 22, 2010 Catt, I feel for you. Rayburn was tought Saturday to. Water temp ,at the Caney Creek ramp- was 48.2 at daylight. We ran to Veach and caught nothing until a little after 9:00am. My non boater had four and I had one. they were all caught on traps and spinner baits in 3-6' of water. I caught my other fish a little later. We lost several hours when I hit a stump and blew the hub. Had to get a tow in, but the boat is ok. My three weighed a little over 7 and my partners four weighed about the same. My fish came in the back of a pocket we found that had 54.8 water temp. most of nonboaters fish caught earlier on a white spinnerbait with copper colored blades. All my fish bit a trap. The gold one with the black back and the orange belly. We have 2-4" of snow forcasted for Tuesday and Wednesday so it should cause them to hold where the are or possibly back out a little. Warm up starts on thursday so maybe this weekend will be a little better. I thought they would bite better, but they didn't. It was tough on everyone. 10 lbs. won it and big bass was 3.78. i think we finished five and six for the tournament. There were 30 fishing. If there was a limit caught I don't remember it, maybe one. Beautiful day to be on the water though. Jack Quote
capierrottie2 Posted February 22, 2010 Posted February 22, 2010 I fished our club tournament Saturday. It was very tough for us as well. We caught 5 fish total 2 dinks and 3 keepers. We took 3rd place out of 9 boats with around 7 pounds. The winner of the tournament took had little over 11 pounds. I fished till dark after weigh in and only caught one more fish. We caught our fish in 8ft of water around submerged tree tops with carolina rigged flukes. Quote
bullet20 Posted February 22, 2010 Posted February 22, 2010 Don't sound good for this weekend,L.a. oilmans.Maybe i shouldn't of paid the entry fee. It's been won many time up north, but with this condition it will be tuff.Someone will catch them, u can count on that. Quote
Super User Catt Posted February 22, 2010 Author Super User Posted February 22, 2010 This is typical pre-spawn & it will improve over the next few days especially with the full moon approaching. Quote
Wesley Posted February 22, 2010 Posted February 22, 2010 Went out today and picked up a small keeper off a main lake point on a spinnerbait, and then picked up one about 3 pounds off a grass bed in 8 foot of water on a spinnerbait. The fish are still biteing but is slow. Quote
justbass Posted February 23, 2010 Posted February 23, 2010 well boys get ready for the snow,my son is in san angelo and they already have six inches on the ground.mother nature is our biggest foe in this world of fishing we love so much.i know that there are a few fish halfway back in housen still relating to the grass and creek intersections.the same is true for sixmile and sandy.i live in sandy cove and the fish are just like me right now confused trying to figure out do i go shallow or stay in the creek.me and them came up with the same answer stay in the cozy creek and take a wait and see approach. ;D Quote
justbass Posted February 23, 2010 Posted February 23, 2010 catt i'm not sure what area of the lake you are on but have you been to palogouch or carrice lately those areas should turn on soon with the lake filling up.if you've been whats the water like? Quote
Wesley Posted February 23, 2010 Posted February 23, 2010 Catt has a camp in six mile. I fish in the paulo gaucho and carrice areas. Saturday around 1 the fishing turned on pretty good there. Also yesterday I went out for an hour and caught 2 fish pretty quick best was about 3 pounds. This cold weather will give them lockjaw again though. Quote
FROG11 Posted February 23, 2010 Posted February 23, 2010 I'll be up there next weekend from March 4th - 7th(Thursday - Sunday). Looking at the 10-day forecast, it looks like no major front is supposed to hit after this one tonight until then...so I'm hoping we catch em pretty good. I know 10 days out can't be that accurate, but it's showing a high of 61 for our first day there..that's as far as the forecast goes. But it looks like a warming trend thereafter.. We'll be staying and fishing around the Palo Gaucho area mostly, but probably will fish the Negreet area and some areas up north as well. Only my 3rd serious trip to the Bend..can't wait! Justin Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted February 23, 2010 Super User Posted February 23, 2010 There are no fish in the Carrice Creek area. Keep on moving up or down lake. It's a total waste of time. Be there in three weeks for a "T" and will let you know if they move back in. Otherwise it's a dead area, not worth fishing...LOL Quote

justbass Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 d**n i can't believe someone put a seine in carrice again well there is probably enough for two boats anyways. Quote
Wesley Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 Honestly it seems to me that the back of carrice hasnt been as productive since the tournaments stoped going to frontier park. Quote
alwayslooking Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 just my two cents worth on last saturday,,,,i had heard some people were catching them shallow with spinners,,,chatterbaits,, and traps,,,i went thru the whole tackle box,,,(maybe twice on some things) caught two for the day,,,one in 6 fow on chatterbait,,,secondary point,,,one on trap,,4 fow main point,,,tried jigs and big worms deep,,,all the way to bank shallow with everything else,,,i was down in mill creek,,sure did like all the sun though,,,, Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted February 24, 2010 Super User Posted February 24, 2010 Honestly it seems to me that the back of carrice hasnt been as productive since the tournaments stoped going to frontier park. Wesley, don't read too much into my statement. All my bass club buddies think I'm behind the bridge to. That's not the case at all. I seldom fish behind the bridge. I'm fishing drains, humps, and ridges out in the lake on the sides of Carrice. You can catch a lot of fish behind the bridge at times, just not enough quality. I'm out in the lake 99% of the time. Strong S.E. wind might put me back there, but that's the only reason I'll be there. Carrice runs a ways out toward the river. That's the area you will find me. Jack Quote
Super User Catt Posted February 24, 2010 Author Super User Posted February 24, 2010 I've received reports from around the lake daily from very reliable sources, bass are being caught but numbers are down and sizes are good. Areas close to the bridge and above; key patterns have been 3-5' in the back of creeks on spinner baits and Rat-L-Traps. Mid-lake area: key patterns have been 15-25' scattered locations on DD-22s and Carolina rigs South lake area: key patterns have been 6-30' every where and any where on DD-22s, Carolina rigs, Drop Shot, Texas Rigs, Football Jigs, Spinner Baits and Rat-L-Traps. Some productive baits: Senko, Ring Worms, Zoom Trick Worms, Stanley's new Itza Bug, Zoom & Lake Fork Lizards, Rat-L-Trap (copper/brown eye), & various spinner baits. I've had calls and emails of 4 bass over 10 lbs caught since Saturday with 1 just over 12 lbs. Quote

Jack I know, but the talk of carrice brought up that observation. There is a grass bed in the back that usualy produces well but since they stopped having tourneys out of frontier it hasnt produced as well. I will have to get out on the lake and spy on some more of your carrice spots :-) Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted February 24, 2010 Super User Posted February 24, 2010 You don't have to spy. I'll show you some of them. Quote

Makes sense, no tournaments to release all the fish caught. So, no reloading the area. Quote
bayouXpress Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 Areas close to the bridge and above; key patterns have been 3-5' in the back of creeks on spinner baits and Rat-L-Traps. It seems like this is the exact pattern that KVD, Jeff, Faircloth and the others in beeswax creek for the classic was following to the T.. They were focusing in on some ditches/drains they went towards the back of the creeks. Once the water warmed up the fish moved out of those ditches up onto the flats. Quote
