I went out one morning and came in at lunch to pick up my brother.  When he saw the 3 rods on my deck he started laughing at me.  He said I was the only person that fished toledo bend and the only rods on the deck were carolina rigs.  I had a fluke, ol monster and a brush hog on the 3 rods.

Awesome video, congrats to the high school kids.

My partner and I had 23.5 for 1st place day 1 in the Toledo Bend Oilmen's last Friday.  Didn't duplicate on day 2 but caught a limit and finished 2nd overall.  Fished the Blue Lake area, 4 to 7 feet in scattered hydrilla using a 3/8 oz avocado colored spinner bait with smaller blades (Stanley Wedge) and a gold rattle trap.  Huge shad spawn in the grass Saturday morning.

Great charity tournament benefiting local wounded veteran hunting and fishing trips.  Tournament is open to all oilfield, upstream, midstream and downstream as well as any active duty or veteran from the us military.

Well, the boat is about to go into the shop so I won't be up there for a while.

I will be fishing the oilman's for the first time next year.  Apparently if your "captain" is an immediate family member and works in the oil industry then you don't have to work in the field.

Amateur Hour, You are correct, one person has to be oilfield or military and immediate family members can fish with a qualified Person.   check out the website www.TBOCBASS.com  I have the results and pictures from this years tournament posted.  The rules and entry forms for 2019 will be posted in October.  Look forward to seeing you there.

I was a boat captain for a high school team fishing the albc state championship yesyerday. We fished Thursday and Friday. Caught well over 300 fish Thursday, about half bass and half barfish.  Got on a mega school and caught a fish every drop for 3 hours.  Left when the 2 boys got tired of taking fish off the hook lol.  We tripled probably 50 times. We then went searching for big ones for yesterday and found 4 spots that we caught 4-5lb fish on.  Tournament day we started on a shad spawn, but the shad didn't show up.  Left and went to our first big fish spot.  The two boys caught a couple 3s, a 7.28, and a 5.  Went and hit our other spots and lost another over 5 and caught alot of 2-3lbers.  We probably caught 75 fish yesterday and went to weigh in.  I knew we had a good bag but didn't want to get my boys too excited.  They had never weighed more than 1 fish in a tournament before lol.  They weighed in 28.93lbs and won the state championship.  They both broke their personal best and had a blast.  Number came from 15-25' on Carolina rig and size came in 4-7' on jigs and Carolina rigs.

I'm another believer in the Carolina rig. It's always on my deck or in my hand. It's also an easy technique to teach a person new to fishing, especially with the big weight helping them to cast. There's times I also have two rods w/CRs.

Headed up this afternoon for a week. A childhood friend will be joining me. She usually comes up a couple times a year. She's become proficient with the CR. Now setting the hook with a ribbit is a different story! Hope to have a good report to share.

Powell inferno frog rod 7' 3"

Lee's super duty

Power pro 40#

Crig weight setup I get pre made at Ttown

Trilene 15# for the leader

2 or 4 size straight shank worm hook

And yum dingers are my fav to use but regular brush hogs run a close second.

Well, Six Mile Creek is muddy now after I drug a 1oz Carolina rig up and down it for a few days.  Not a lot of catching.  Managed a few keepers per trip morning and afternoon.  Most keepers were near or on the main lake stuff I fished.  I was excited to see some grass making a comeback.  I found the fish to be everywhere but no where in particular. Never found a good group. Caught fish on spinnerbait, frog, worm, ole monster, brush hog, swim jig, jig, crank bait, senko, top water but not a lot on any one in particular. Tough trip, not much of a report, but good to get back up there.

Alright @jcdogfish what's C-rig setup!

Good report, I'm thinking 6-Mile but at night.

I was a pretty good Liz-zard dragger back in the day!

That what made Falcon Rods & Speed Spools, at least with the crowd I ran with.

Guess I need to pick it up again ?

Y'all use glass beads?

Hook set: sideways or overhead?

Posted

falcon 7'2" MH

40 lb spiderwire invisi braid main line (20 lb sunline sniper if real clear) no difference except between the ears for me.

better hookup with braid seems like

3/4 to 1 oz bullet weight with glass bead

2' leader 14lb trilene xt

3 or 4 0 offset round bend hook

baby brush hog, ultra vibe worm, rage craw, senko but will drag almost anything

lizard from feb-april too

I fish a little softer rod than most, like to load it up good before the hook set. Braid mainline makes up for the softer rod.   Always a long side drag hookset(which was very few hooksets this week)

I didn't mark a lot of fish in six mile.  Saw a few here and there but no groups unless they are really stuck to the bottom.  lots of bait real deep.  I'm thinking as it gets hotter they will start piling up better for those of us that are depth challenged.  I want to think the combination of post spawn and the lake falling a little pulled them out quick and scattered, but I think I could get on the hay grass edge and bang out a good limit.  Bite there not fast and furious but when you can find the new growth grass on the outside of the haygrass in 5-10 feet you can catch some solid fish if you fish patiently.

Im using brass and never had an issue.  I actually bought a bunch of the wired up rigs for around 3 bucks each a while back.  When I need to rig up I just cut the wire off and have the bead, weight and swivel.  easy to store and all in one place when needed.

BF,, I would need to take a guide trip with you and let you look at my birds.  Are you using the Helix units.  I went from a 10 to a 7 up front because it gets in the way when fishing down here.  I can't get the 7 sensitivity right.  I sent it back and no issues found but I can see a lot more on the 10 at the console.  Thinking about getting another 10 for up front when I go to Toledo.  The 7 is actually supposed to be better than the 10 I have.

Taking a kid who rarely catches next weekend. Hope to get somewhere with a shad spawn near mid-lake. Anybody know where there’s some grass where a kid can get some good top water action around daylight??
