capierrottie2 Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 Fishing Report, We launched Sunday at South Toledo Bend State Park on the Louisiana side. We hit the Texas Island, Mill Creek, Housen, Indian Mounds, and Jessie Low. We threw R-Traps and C-Rigged Flukes (watermelon Magic and Candy). We caught all fish with the C-Rigged Flukes. The fish were caught in depths of 7ft to 20ft of water. We caught 8 total and kept 5. The biggest weighing around 3.5 pounds. The water temp was 47 to 48 degrees. The water was murky/soupy with alot of dead shad floating in certain areas. I attached a pic of our catch. We fished from 8:30 am to 3:30pm. We did not get our first bite until noon. capierrottie2 Quote
bigtimfish Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 I am a little confused on why you would keep fish this time of year. Anyway, Catt I will be fishing six mile on fri and sat of this week. According to Accuweather.com the forecast for Hemphill is high 50's and low 60's all week and no rain. My question is how is the water clarity? Just want to know what spinnerbait to throw. Colorado or willow, white/chartruese or more natural shad colors. Thanks for the input. Quote
5Biguns Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 Tose 2 bottom fish are some chunky little Spots! I will be there next tues through Sun. Sure would like to meet up and have a Cup of Coffee Catt! Quote
Super User Catt Posted February 17, 2010 Author Super User Posted February 17, 2010 First off the are millions of bass in Toledo Bend that size so keeping a few now & then is called Selective Harvesting and will improve overall fishing. I throw only 3 spinner baits on the Bend Stanley's Original VibraShaft, Stanley Wedge Plus, & the Rattle HeadTM Spinner Bait Right now it's a 1/2 oz. Wedge Plus with a white/chartreuse skirt, double gold willow leaf; 5-8' of water slow rolling the bait just off the bottom. Lake level is at 170.45 and the water is stained but clearing some over the next few days Quote
5Biguns Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 How much water are they leting Through right now? Quote
Super User Catt Posted February 17, 2010 Author Super User Posted February 17, 2010 Generator 1: Currently shut down Generator 2: Currently running 24hrs. Spillway Gates: Closed Current Waterflow: 6544 CFS Quote
Wesley Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 In Paulo Gaucho the water temps are 40-43 degrees, a little further north up by patroon I found some water at 47 degrees. Hopefuly once the temps stop falling below 30 degrees at night the water will warm up some more and get in the 50's. I am gonna go out this morning and throw some jig's, or t-riged brush hogs. Try to find some staging fish in 10-14 foot of water I hope they havent been pushed further back than that. Quote
5Biguns Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 Looking at the 15day forecast the temps should start a steady climb and with the Full moon coming next week I bet the bass are going to start making a move. Quote
Wesley Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 WoW the bite is tough out there, I zeroed today. Fished from paulo gaucho up to just north of the pendleton bridge water temps 43 to 49 degrees. Gonna go out tomorrow and try in 25 foot of water off main lake points and see whats happening there. Catt help a brother out and tell me where the fish are!! Super User Catt Posted February 18, 2010 Author Super User Posted February 18, 2010 Well I told y'all someone is catching every day Water Tempertures: 45-48 degrees. Water clarity: mostly stained every where The bass are definitely on the move with several reports coming in of 15-20 lb sacks on spinner baits, jigs, & lipless cranks. Most bites are coming in 4-7' outside grass lines on the south end of the lake which is strange because the north end usually kicks it first. Of the 7 reports only one was from the 1215 area every thing else was Lowe's Creek south both Texas and Louisiana sides. 5 of the 7 reports came from the mouths of major creeks with the other 2 about 1/2 way back into the creeks. Hot baits were Oldham's Jig 3/8 oz. black/blue with a 6" Gene Larew Hawg Craw with the tail cut completely off making for a stubby jig. XCalibur's One Knocker 3/4 oz. Royal Red Stanley's Original VibraShaft 1/2 oz. with a white/chartreuse skirt, gold/silver double willow leaf Quote
Corkpuller Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 I believe ole Joslin reports catchin fish on a spinnerbait only on days that end in Y. Quote
Super User Catt Posted February 18, 2010 Author Super User Posted February 18, 2010 The weather is going to be awesome for the next few days with highs in the low to mid 60s during the day & lows at night in the 50s. There is a front approaching but it's coming out of the Gulf which is a warm front. The bass will be moving from early pre-spawn to pre-spawn so y'all better be cocked, locked, & ready to rock! Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted February 18, 2010 Super User Posted February 18, 2010 I'm ready, just going to be on the lake to the left. Water temp is up a few, so the fish should be on the move. Quote

Corkpuller Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 sure hope the action picks up before the 1st of March cuz I'll be headed that way. ;D Quote
Wesley Posted February 21, 2010 Posted February 21, 2010 Well I fished a grass bed back in a protected cove, I caught 4 keepers and 1 dink. Weighed in 10 pounds 5 ounces good enough to tie for 26th place and they paid 25 places! Not bad for my first BFL ever and as a boater at that. And my co-angler placed in the money which made me happy! Quote
Corkpuller Posted February 21, 2010 Posted February 21, 2010 good for you Wesley, that's a good show, congrats Quote
