Coachsho Posted March 4, 2018 Posted March 4, 2018 First, I greatly appreciate all the information shared here. I visit the Bend twice a year for a week stay and have done so for several years. I've caught plenty fish simply from advanced scouting using knowledge I've gained here. Stayed there last Fri thru last Wed. Really found the good fish beginning Sat afternoon in the north Sam Miguel area. Was warm Mon and Tue so fish were looking to bed. Beaver style baits and Crawsomes did the most damage. Btwn out 2 boats we had 6 over 4#, a 5#, and a 6# on Mon and half day Tue. If the water was over 63, they were up. If it was cooler like in Slaughter Creek and parts of Lanana, they were staging. Spinnerbaits and crankbaits were best. Can't wait to get back. 4 Quote

j bab Posted March 5, 2018 Posted March 5, 2018 Today was a little slow for us again, we ran across a school this evening that helped us recover from a slow bite and end the day on a good note. First fish this morning was a 3+ but shook me at the boat. Caught 2 keepers right after that in the shallow grass on a craw but that was it for the rest of the morning. At 5pm we ran across a school in sandy creek. We hit spot lock on the ultrex and sat there for at least an hour and caught a dozen fish in 5-10ft on c rigs and an a-rig. I’ve heard reports of catching em real shallow but we haven’t been able to get that to work 4 Quote

adamsfence Posted March 5, 2018 Posted March 5, 2018 I fished Friday and saturday, first time back in awhile. I started my day in Back of Negreet. It was chocalate milk. Picked up a few in about 6" of water along the creeks. Traveled to Slaughter with not 1 bite, Water was clear here. Left and went to Palo Gauco. The water was chocalate in the back we caught a few in the back and trolled towards the clear water. I couldn't catch a fish in the clear water. Ended back in the button woods in the negreet that evening. We ended up with around 10 keepers. Caught a ton smaller fish around 13". All our fish was on 3 baits Baby brush hog, Spinner bait and Chatter bait (biggest Producer). My step dad hung one about 8lbs (guess), She jump up and spit it after about 5 seconds. It was on a flat about 1' deep (i thought). Saturday morning i went back and found out it was a 8' creek channel running through there. I'm guessing she was staging. All the fish were very close to cover. Most was in the flooded bushes. Saturday I only fished about 2 hrs. Only caught six and not 1 of them was over 14". Don't really understand the water clarity thing. I would have thought cleaner water would have been the ticket but i couldn't buy a bite in clean water. Anyway i'll be up there sunday to stay for a week. Sure hope this colder weather don't throw a loop in my plans. 5 Quote

DaveHaze Posted March 6, 2018 Posted March 6, 2018 Fished Carrice creek Monday. Lots of boats from Thursday thru Sunday putting a lot of pressure on the fish. Caught a nice 5 lber Monday and caught a few more on the spinnerbait. Will try the back of Paulo Gaucho Bayou next trip. Temps from 63 up! They should be getting on the banks despite all the pressure! 1 Quote
ToledoMard928 Posted March 6, 2018 Posted March 6, 2018 In reference to muddy/stained water. I have caught as many "big" fish in muddy water as I have in clear water. It changes the way you approach things for sure, but the fish are still there. I believe Cat said this in an earlier post and it is one of the most true statements made on this forum; "Muddy water affects the fisherman more than the fish". 3 Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted March 7, 2018 Posted March 7, 2018 I fished today around midlake area and had a little over 23lbs. Caught my biggest fish on a river ledge On a 6xd. She was post spawn already. Was long and had the head of a 9lber but only weighed a little under 8lbs. Caught a few other 3lbers on a crankbait then went shallow at 11am. Broke off one around 5lbs, caught one over 5, a 4, and a bunch of 2-3lb fish. Shallow fish came on a senko and trick worm, but they weren't fished "normal". I went back deep at 3 and found a small school in Tennessee bay. Caught a few 2lbers and had a big one bend my hook on my 6xd. All in all, a good day. 7 Quote

RonnieF Posted March 7, 2018 Posted March 7, 2018 Headed up tomorrow and better half will be coming a few days later. Plan to stay until the following Sunday of the second weekend. Joining a friend for a 2 day tournament out of San Miguel Friday and Saturday. A group of friends will be up Monday thru Friday, so it ought to be some fun fishing, despite the fronts that'll be coming through. Thanks for all the recent reports. A5BLASTER Posted March 8, 2018 Posted March 8, 2018 Spinner bait bite still doing good on San Miguel today no size to brag about but finished the day with my 8 keepers all fish keep between 16 and 18 inches. I know I posted this last year but it bares repeating folks new and old to the big pond don't be running wide open on plane outside the marked boat lanes, I been home two weeks and already towed to boats full of idiots back to the dock because they destroyed their lower unit trying to prove they were the best of the best and flying wide open across stump feilds. j bab Posted March 8, 2018 Posted March 8, 2018 Today was great for me, not so hot for dad! I caught 14 on a spinnerbait around grass, buck brush, and lily pads in Mill Creek. Several over 3lbs, one weighed in (actually the first fish of the day) at 4¼. By far my best spinnerbait day. Dad only caught 2. Our total fish count since Saturday is now 100, with 4 over 4lbs but no giants yet. Looking forward to better weather the next couple days 4 Quote

There is a railroad track that crosses in what appears to be about 8-12' of water near the mouth of Lowes Creek. Is that a good place to find bedding fish or are they going to move further back into the creek? 1 Quote
