I catch bigger fish during spawn but catch more per trip during the summer.  Also what you said about picking one spot and learning has helped me alot Catt. Thats why i stay on san Miguel. 1 Quote

Super User Catt Posted January 30, 2018 Author Super User Posted January 30, 2018 My personal best of 12 lb 8 oz was caught during February in the mouth of 944 on a Rat-L-Trap  All the others were caught during the dog days of summer 1 Quote

I spend most of my time in Lowes, Palo Gaucho, Spring Hill, Slaughter areas as they are the closest to my camp. To say that this area has kicked my butt lately would be an understatement. I can go up north and catch them, I can go down south and catch them but when I try to run similar patterns on what I consider my "home water" areas I cannot duplicate the success. The patterns may be a little different or somewhere in between but I just cant hit on much of anything around the house lately. Is it just me??? Don't feel bad i'm in the same boat in this area my camp is right by cypress bend. Fall and winter has kicked my butt around there. I normally give up and go fish my white perch holes. I'm taking advise on this board but i haven't really had the time to put it to work. Now my son is playing little dribblers basketball and it's every saturday till the end of February so don't look like i will get to spend some time till March. One day I'll figure it out if not i'll have fun trying. Quote

Lol We are in the process of clearing it right now. I'm not sure if we have a surveyor lined up yet or not, but shoot me your info and if we haven't gotten one ready to go, I'll sure try to get you the job. It's right at 6 acres that will be broken into lots. 1 Quote
RCCA Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 Thanks. Will do. Half price fishin' family rate. Quote

june-bug Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 Catt my camp is in the lil cove (Rebel Ridge) just on the corner of Goodloe Bluff where the river makes that hard bend. Pretty much straight across the lake from Cypress Bend. Was on a good deep bite all through the summer but fall and winter has kicked my tail. Last couple years I have been able to stay on them just not this year. Not sure what the deal is. Like i said i have made a few trips south and caught them and a few north and caught them but way, way more trips right here around the camp with very minimal success. I'm stubborn though and keep trying because it's convenient and I really hate trailering when all i gotta do is walk down to the lake shore and get in the boat and go from the camp. 1 Quote
Super User Catt Posted January 31, 2018 Author Super User Posted January 31, 2018 @june-bug  Know exactly where ya at ?  I started my career on the Big Pond in Jessie Lowe's Creek, Millionaire's Point, Jessie Lowe's Bay, & Tennessee Bay.  I would probably consecrate my efforts in the north coves of Lowe's Creek or Indian Mounds. 2 Quote
Super User Catt Posted January 31, 2018 Author Super User Posted January 31, 2018 Was kinda in a hurry earlier ?  @june-bug the reason I suggested Lowe's is reasons you mentioned.  The weather this time of year can be stupid!  From your camp & around to Lowe's Creek should be a "calm" run. The coves on the north side should be outta the wind. I would start at the first cove, fish the sucker front to back. Then move to the next one & repeat!  Ya gonna connect with fish it's just a matter of timing ? 3 Quote
june-bug Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 Thanks for the reply Catt. You know sometimes I think I'm overthinking this whole fishing thing and just need to "go fishing" lol. I've been trying to force the deep bite a little to hard I think. Past successful trips have me trying to re-live the past but If they aint there, they aint there. Or sometimes even when they are there and you see them on the electronics you just cant get them fired up. Just been in a little bit of a slump is all. I'll snap out of it sooner or later. 3 Quote
Super User Catt Posted January 31, 2018 Author Super User Posted January 31, 2018 We're in the first weekend of February, a warming trend, & change of rain!  The fish are there it's just a matter of timing right, they're wanting to move up.  I would position my boat a little beyond casting distance from the bank & fan cast from the deep side to the shallow.  I would be armed with a Texas Rig 3/16 or 1/4 oz, a 3/8 oz Black-N-Blue jig, a 1/2 spinnerbait double gold willow leaf white skirt, & one of these!  4 Quote
Super User Catt Posted February 1, 2018 Author Super User Posted February 1, 2018 37° yesterday morning...60° this morning!  1 Quote
operationgrass Posted February 4, 2018 Posted February 4, 2018 Been tight lipped lately with the tournament coming up, but figure i would share somethings that have been working for me.  When i've been able to get out on the main lake I'm still catching big stringers on football jigs on main lake points, and for my back up plan i have been slow rolling a spinner bait (2-6 lb average). Fine the coots, canvasback, loons and the fish should be near. I haven't had much luck with a trap lately, but have seen people catching on it. I feel like the spinner-bait is giving the fish a different look.  Also, a guy in the media derby weighed in a 35lb sack throwing an A rig. I watched him for an hour catch a sack of a life time 5 Quote

Take the time to use your electronics by following contour lines and located as many brush piles as you can. Then proceed to fish them until you find which piles are the productive ones. Then you can lean on them when the bite gets tough 1 Quote

Troy85 Posted February 6, 2018 Posted February 6, 2018 Speaking of Tournaments. Anyone ever do the Sealy Big Bass splash in May? I thought about fishing it this year. Is it worth it, or does the lake just become a complete madhouse? Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted February 6, 2018 Posted February 6, 2018 It gets crazy, but the lake is big and you can find some areas without all the crazy. Just stay away from the bridge down to Housen lol. North ain't too bad and way south ain't too bad, I've cashed a few checks doing that 1 Quote
