I can't seem to find the gold black back/orange belly color combination on the trap. I'm finding gold back/orange belly or gold black back, but not the gold with black back and orange belly

can anyone direct me to the right spot

Ann's Tackle in Jasper Texas. She will take orders over the phone and ship. That's where I get mine.

Thanks Catt, I read through that thread this evening.  I'm definitely hooked on this forum, and I'm sure I'll be checking in with more questions soon.

Great thread about the prespawn/spawn, Catt! Could you give me a little insight on Negreet looking back at the Acme mapper?  Thanks for all of the knowledgeable information you post.

There is so much information in here, and it seems like most people are finding this thread searching for information on their upcoming tournaments and asking for particulars to their area.

I'm more intrigued on the actual map readings. I mean once you learn to read the map you can find everything you are looking for on your own.

I'm really curious and would love to see some actual 2D sonar shots accompanied with a certain location on the hook-n-line map. Even better would be some side imaging shots.

I would love to just pick a spot any spot on the map and see what you see.

I'm still having some troubles separating some of the contour lines and following old creeks.

I don't know what happend to the website that had the registration for the National Highschool Tournament. It was supposed to be held at the Cypress Bend Marina. Anyone heard about it or could help me out at all. The website is down or something and I was looking forward to winning some scholorship money.??????

Yeah, I could definitely go for more map tutorial too...I'm like a kid in a candy store looking at all the possibilities on my map...it's hard for me to focus on something and really get a good understanding of what I'm seeing...

Ok, lets look at La Nana north cove 105 on the hook n line map.

Starting to the southwest of it at junction 36a, the main river chanel splits. Continuing on the channel going east into La nana there is a old creek/River bed that goes directly north into the first creek (105).

This is what i'm having trouble with is distinguishing the contour lines. I understand that the closer the contour lines the faster the slope/angle. I think i see that on the left of the creek bed after you pass the boat lane that crosses it the creek channel gets pretty narrow. My question would be if the counters lines to the west and east represent the 32ft depth, what depth is the actual creek bed in?

Anyway, right where the GPS marker is I see a creek bed in around 32 feet of water with a submerge point in 12 ft of water to the northwest, northeast, and southeast in very close proximety and would seem like hitting all 3 points moving from deep to shallow would be a good approach.

I just have problems determining the depth the creek channel. ;)

and what do you actually consider a creek/river bed.  what would that look like out the water

I just ran across this thread.......great read!!  Heading to T-bend in two weeks and will use this info!!  Now just need to figure out where to start.  Looks like I will be doing some serious map study.

I'm not quite sure I follow you since Bayou La Nana goes back passed the Hwy. 191 bridge?

Are you talking about Little Beech Bayou, Big Beech Bayou, or Hurricane creek on the north side of Bayou La Nana?

Contour lines will show both sides of a creek/river channel but the actual bottom depth is not shown on most maps; Bayou La Nana east to the cove with the first 1215 bridge is around 52' deep. Also keep in mind the depth shown on Topo maps are of the lake at full pool of 172'; the lake as of 01/31/2010 is 168.57 or 3.43' low; so if the map shows 32' at full pool it's actually 28.57' today.

well I made it through all 43 pages and I'll say it was very interesting and informative reading, thanks to Catt and all others. Keep it up

Went up to Pat's Friday afternoon with my youngest daugther and son-in-law

The weather was miserable, never got above 37 with a wind chill of 29, cloudly windy wet & no bite!

Lake Level: 168.57

Water temp under the 6-mile bridge was 51.7

One little tight-eye on a wacky worm ;)

I forget sometimes not everyone knows the back of creeks like I do

Hi Catt and everybody else,

I've fished the Bend about 10 times, this will be my 4th year fishing so I'm still learning and I appreciate what you have been doing here, thanks.

I will be visiting the lake in two weeks for BWS. I just wanted to start with a snapshot of Lowes, I think this is a Mill Branch. I would like later to talk about Toro but lets talk about this snapshot, nothing special I just crossed a channel swing moving toward the back of creek. I can post a few typical side images of grass line and breaks etc. later. I almost started with the sunken bridge by TPW ramp 22 in Carrice Creek just for conversation. I don't have that many images that make sense to the average viewer but, have a few of the creeks in Pirates Cove. I hope I can contribute in the future. Best ~jj

Hi Bayou Express,  I'm new to the lake but knew exactly where you were talking about. I have an image just above the 36a starting point you described.  If you use a lake maps premium chip you will see one foot contours, this helps immensely.  Apparently, bass don't like to swim up and over things they follow the contours at the level they are feeding in I guess,  so that's what makes following structure so important to know where the fish are coming from and going to?  I just need to understand the why under every condition and day of the season....I have a lot to learn!  Best, ~jj

Lake level: 168.69

Generator 1: Currently shut down

Generator 2: Currently shut down

Spillway Gates: Closed

Main lake surface temperatures 46-51 degrees

Well gang if y'all haven't planned a trip to the big pond now is the time, the bass still in deep water so watch for 2 or 3 days of stable weather to send them shallow.

Right now once you've located bass all deep techniques are producing with football style jig #1 followed by deep cranks.

Remember keep a rain coat within arms reach & an eye on the weather channel ;)

Catt, my depthfinder will take shots like the ones posted above.  If there is any places you would like to get out and take some Downimage or side image shots of let me know and we can get out there some time and get it done.

.

I would love to see any shots you have so we can relate them to the map.  I'm just trying to understand the relation between all of them.  Its amazing technology.

Bayou,

I havent got any screen shots but I plan on getting out and getting some soon and we can discuss them on here.

The way you read this image is from left to right on top and bottom to top on side image. The boat traveled over the grass toward deeper water.

One way to fish the edge is to position the boat 10'-20' out side the grass and cast back over the tops of the grass then let your lure sink down the edge. A spinnerbait is an excellent lure to fan cast but I always like to offer the fish a look at something different before I move down the grass line. Swimming a jig is often my next choice. If not, I might chose a trap. I'll do the same with any plastic as well.

I 'll be on the lake Friday and will try to add some lake information and share what I learn after the tournament.

My new smart phone is capable of recording some of my on the water experience like GPS etc. as well as video.

I know we have cold weather now but hope we get a break for the weekend. I'll be heading down to Choke and then Falcon after Sunday so I will escape any remaining cold.<g>

If anyone is on Facebook look me up.

If you see me on the water give me a shout...black skeeter w/ fish on engine wrap...can't miss me.

Best, ~jj
