Hadn't been in 3 weeks or so. Too busy. Sorry. Maybe next week.

I fished day before yesterday, did alright on the early morning frog bite, then pulled back to a creek channel that was at 23 feet and had a great time teir caught 14, then later that evening went back to the frog and caught six more fish to end the day.

Had seven that were 3 to 3 1/2 pounds the rest were 14 to 15 inch

bass.

Caught them in the creek on a Crig loaded with a watermelon red yum digger.

Had two that came off down deep that felt reel good but my dumb self didn't think they were that good due to a very soft bite so I didn't set the hook like I normally do.

Haven't fished the last two days due to the stupid high winds, seen a few boats moving around in it, hope they made it back to the ramp ok, we had three foot white caps at the bank in front my house today.

Winds hit a high mark today of 57 at my house atleast that's what my kestrel wind gauge for long range rifle shooting told me and it's very accurate.

I was by TB Saturday, not fishing, but helping with a tournament.  Wow, the wind and rain was crazy.

Fished the Oilmen's Classic.  Got on the shad spawn early but somebody please remind me to never ever again bang the bank in late April on Toledo Bend.  The fish just aren't there.  I think I finally learned my lesson that Toledo fishes deep and you CAN NOT fish a Rayburn pattern on this lake.  I deserve the "I told you so".

Ok here you go TOLD YOU SO!

Yea they are for sure down deeper now around my house, still finding a few in the morning and late evening on the frog but the most of my bites are coming from deeper water.

Outside of the " spawn" for every bass you catch on the bank there's 5 behind you!

@kevine80 How Y'all Are?

May-August the daily temperatures will be in the upper 90s with humidity in the upper 90%...miserable conditions!

Night fishing eliminates that!

Don't fear the night, fear what hunts at night! ;)

I just returned from a very unsuccessful trip to Six Mile Creek.  Wind and weather combined with poor fishing skills were the main culprits!  My question is this: How do you deal with the slime on the bottom in certain places? Do you just not fish the area, because it will probably not be productive, or do you just use a bait that rides higher in the water column?

I am not sure how else to describe the "slime", but will try and give more details. Before our trip I mapped out as many points, drops near the banks, and sudden changes in contour lines in the 12' range (just an arbitrary number chosen after reading this thread for a long time).  We worked as many of these as we could, but were forced to fish mainly close to the bank because of the wind. Many times when I would pitch or flip into bushes or close to the bank with a Texas rig I would bring back a wad of slimy, sticky, green, moss all over the weight or bait. I would spend more time removing the stuff than I did fishing. We caught a few small fish with vibrating jigs and hooked one good fish pitching shallow that shook off after partially straightening the hook on the TR.  I am not a tournament fisherman, I would just like to be more proficient in catching some "keeper" fish. If the areas with this stuff on the bottom can still be productive I will keep trying them, if not I will move on to other locations if that makes sense. I do not have the skill to fish the deep stuff (much over 20').  I did find a couple of locations where the sidescan showed what appeared to be stumps and laydowns on them where we could have stayed in the 12' range and fished both toward the bank out away from the bank if not for the wind. We never had the chance because the big weather system that came through last week ran us off.  Should I be looking for "hard or rock" bottom, or just stuff such a stumps and laydowns in deeper water?

I realize the answer to most of this ramble is in this thread somewhere. I have read it through several times in the past but haven't seen anything relating to the "slime".  I drive 8 hours to get to Six Mile or Housen, so I do try to prepare ahead of time.

Anyway, give an old man a little slack and a little help if you can! Thanks!! :)

Can't say I have ever ran into any slime like that up here.

Now when I was living in my hometown in sw la and fishing the pool I did see slime alot and never really worried about it to much just throw it off when it got to thick and kept fishing.

As far as the Bend goes the fish are really off the bank now that the spawn is over, so fishing deeper is were the most of my bites have been coming from the last two times I have been out.

And yea the wind does mess things up when you want to fish deeper water, a few good anchors will help with that as I have been learning.

The hot weather is coming so night time and early morning/late evening is when I fish the most.

Hope this helps sir.

I can only guess but you were probably towards the back of 6-mile near the launch on the south side?

When confronted with "slime" or snot as we called it, I leave that area!

Stewart's Ridge...just saying ;)
