If a ribbet frog is working I don't see why a buzzbait wouldn't work also.

Like Catt says, you can catch a limit every day on any bait all you got to do is fish enough bank.

A Ribbet sounds just like a buzzbait!

FYI: 1/4 oz black skirt ;)

Thanks Catt. I will definitely give it a try. My mom won a 2 free night stay at Toledo bend at a conference last week in lake Charles. So me and my dad kinda stole it from her and are using it next weekend. lol

Caught some 3 weeks ago on a buzz bait so should only get better by then.

Today, I went to Housen in a new area to check it out. It was rough for awhile but ended up catching 14. Mostly around 14" fish. One about 4.5. Caught a few on a frog, one on a Rogue, and the rest on a watermelon red brush hog. All very shallow. Tried fishin' deeper but no bites.

Looks like me and the Mrs. picked the wrong weekend to visit The Bend lol. Rain and high winds are in the forecast. But we're gonna give it our best shot. Staying in the south end and gonna try to find the best protected water to fish. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

So I'm curious.  The Big Bass Splash is taking place at Toledo Bend May 19-21.  I will be fishing Toledo Bend the weekend after the Bass Splash takes place.  Does the Bass Splash rodeo affect the fishing much after it takes place?  I know Toledo Bend is huge, but I also have heard that a few thousand boats take part in the Bass Splash rodeo.  I'm just curious if I will have a tougher time fishing the weekend following the event.  Anyone who fishes TD regularly have any info?

Nope!

No effect at all

Fished one weekend that had the big bass splash, Bass-n-Bucks, & another major tournament (5,000) boat.

Caught all weekend & the following week ;)

Good to hear!

I'll keep watching this topic as the trip gets closer so I can keep in the loop.  I only get to fish TD about once a year, but oh man that place is like heaven.

I'm going to Bass Pro today to stock up on lures for my trip next weekend. Can yall say some of the best lures to bring for this time of year and maybe post a picture?

And is there pretty good fishing around San Miguel or do we have to travel pretty far each morning before we start fishing? Weve just never been so there is a lot of unknowns for us?

Yep any and all grass in ten foot or less water, with the best bites comeing in a foot to three foot of water around buck brush and are grass mixed in are close bye the brush.

We caught a total of 29 today those are the keepers that we could tell weren't full of eggs.

Had two big bass we released that were close to five pounds.

It was about even on the two baits producing bites.

We would have fished longer then we did but the white caps got up to two foot and we were in a 16 foot flat so we came off the water and got the grease hot for some fresh fried fish tonight.

What color shad seemed to work best?

Posted

Watermelon red is the only color we used in the caffine shad.

Had 30lbs today and my dad had 14lbs in our club tournament. Our best 5 combined was 33lbs. I had 3 fish between 7- 10lbs jump off. My big fish i caught was 9.5lbs.  Lots of tournaments coming up, but I'd be willing to share some info with y'all by pm if you want it.
