Hopefully this hasn't been answered as i have read this amazingly long thread a couple times now and don't recall it.

I am staying at the fin & feather starting April 1st, I plan to be out on the lake and at the fishing spots at first light and was wondering if i will be making my own breakfast or if anything is open before 6am around there?

I don't think F&F opens til 6. ;)

In my opinion, the spraying of chemicals has destroyed the "good vegetation" that our lake needs to survive. The unwarranted salvina panic and subsequent overreaction reminds me of what happened to Caney a few years ago. Fish need vegetation to thrive, period. If anybody else has a better explanation for the ecological destruction we are witnessing, I'm all ears.

Not gonna comment on that subject on here. This is gonna turn into a big pointless debate that has nothing to do with the thread. Either start a thread on this subject or this one is gonna go south like the t bend fishing reports facebook group

I hear that I'm very luck my work allows my lots of time to fish.

If you need someone to fish with when you come up shoot me a holla I would be more then happy to fish with anyone on this fourm, lol as long as they can stand my addiction to ribbett frogs  lol.

Life is about making freinds and learning something new every day.

Thanks everyone for the help so far.

Does anyone ever use live shad for bass fishing?  Like a cast net and throw that little 1st year shad on a drop shot?  I have done this many other times elsewhere but i cant even seem to find reports of anyone doing it at the bend and it just seems surprising to me all things considered.

Posted

I do cast net for shad but I use them on my troutlines.

It ain't easy to cast net up here lol lots of stumps, I spend more time fixing my net then casting it.

Anyone got a clue where this fish have gone after this little front? Depth and what to look for?

Ok... It's official - I suck @ fishing! 2 tournaments Big goose egg on Sat. One keeper on Sun. - that I didn't bother weighing in. How bad am I??? Mabey this will help explain... If you threw my naked butt in a tank full of man eating sharks - I wouldn't get a bite. AND if I did it would be by the smallest dumbest SOB in the tank!!!

Wed. an' Thur. did ok trap and c'rig being the better of everything I threw. Sat. was a cluster with the fog. We launched at 7 but I had no intentions of getting in the boat lanes under those conditions. Was about 10:30 before I'd made my way to the back of Caney. Caught a 5, 4, 3 and a couple in the 2.5 range pre-fishing. Caught about 10 fish Sat. ranging from 13" to about 8". Sun. Caught 1 keeper on a trap, lost a "head shaker" on a stump with the trap and broke off one about 3# in a brush pile in about 2 fow with a finess rig. I fished a c'rig a lot from 10-20' with nothing to show for the effort.

it was tough even for the guys that live on the lake and fish it daily. Sat. we had 28 boats and the top five went 14+, 14+, 12+, 12+, 12+. Not good at all by Toledo standards. Sun. a guy weighed in a 10.57. Only fish he had. Today it was 13, 12, 12. Only 15 boats. V&m tournament outta Big Bass Marina claimed a few of our anglers.

Bite didn't seem to be that bad for us up on San Miguel Thursday and friday.

Didn't fish Saturday because I was out of town, got back today and me and dad slammed them this evening on chatterbaits, caffeine shad swimbaits, square bill crankbaits and ribbet frog.

Had five bass over four pounds one on the chatterbait, three on crankbaits, one on the frog.

Hope it gets better for you sir.

Good deal! The guy that won Sat. made a long run north. Perhaps he was in that area. Oh, it will get better. I'm just fond of moaning n' groaning from time to time...

@Dougw1515@aim.com life on the Bend ;)

I don't know for sure if that's life on the Bend but I can certainly testify that is life in Caney creek! Since the first of the year I've spent approx. 20 or so days in Caney. I'm aware of most of the features: humps, drops, rolling flats. Located a few areas with really good hydrilla - growing in 14-15 fow. Hay grass that has 3-4 fow on the outer edge. Graphed more ditches/drains than the law allows.

Some times an area simply does not turn on and for whatever reason that appears to be the case in Caney. I have literally spent days graphing Caney. I am not marking fish shallow, mid-range, or deep. I suspect wherever they are they're grouped up pretty tight and I haven't found the grouping.

Next month I'm venturing outside of Caney. I'll pick a cove/creek and begin to cover it much like I have with Caney. Learning a new lake is not always easy, especially this time of year.

@Dougw1515@aim.com

That is life on the Bend ;)

This time of the doesn't make it any easier!

Remember after location is timing, ya can go from 1 or 2 fish to 20-30 in a matter of yards.

If the bass are up near the bank in brush ya ain't gonna graph em anyway.

What's going on in San Miguel ain't what's going on in Caney!

So far, March has been 10 times worse than January and February for me. Only been in Housen, Six Mile and Sandy.  Feel like relocating!  I'll be glad when the "spawn" and the millions of humans go away too.  Thanks for the reports and good luck to all.

Today was the my first full day of fishing on the lake. I caught 7.  I did some scouting and idling last Thursday and didn't do much fishing at all. This place can be overwhelming.

I launched at San Miguel. Water was as high as 74 in some places. I got a 4 pounder on a toad in 1215 near north Toledo bend state park in a foot and a half of water near buck brush and submerged grass. I didn't make it there until close to 11 but I assume that bite would be better in the morning. The carp over there are nuts.

The rest came on a squarebill on rip rap on the south bank of San Miguel. Cozy point etc

Just arrived this afternoon. I like this mid week gig. Fished the last two hours today. Caught 6 or 7 and a gator lol. 3 or 4 keepers some post spawn some slap full of eggs. Spinnerbait, Frog, and Rogue. Hopefully, with 12 hours tomorrow I can give a better report. Good luck!

I like the mid week fishing too. That's why I will arrive this coming Sunday night and fish Monday thru Friday . As many boats as were on the lake last year during the week I cant imagine what the weekends would be like . I will be staying at South state park . And trust me I am chomping at the bit ready to head that way. I just hope the weather next week is better than the report is showing now.

We are coming to Toledo Bend next weekend on the 31st for Largemouth. Where we live, we fish the Bogue Chitto River everyday. I love buzz baits. Are these any good this time of year at TB? If not, what do I need to use?
