Good luck with the surgery.  Remember, never waste a crisis,,get the DR. to write you a prescription for at least a 20' boat to ease the pain on your back

Told my Doc he needed to buy a new truck & boat so I could borrow it!

Good luck on the surgery Little Fish. I had neck surgery in '03 and it definitely helped me out. It does still bother me, but at that time I was losing function of my hand so it was time. I had put it off for around 10-15 years, but once I couldn't roll my right hand over to put shaving cream under my left jawbone, I knew it was time.

Don't push it too soon, let it heal properly or you're asking for trouble.

Awesome. We are from south Mississippi so this is a different animal for us. Hoping to at least get 5 fish to turn in. Only my 2nd time here. You going to be out fishing anytime soon?

I've seen some reports on facebook of a frog bite and also a swimjig bite around the hay grass.

Good luck.

We caught a few yesterday mid morning shallow. Most on a big bite swim bait in shallow grass. Had a decent one dance & throw my swimjig that I had apparently casted into its mouth. When I engaged the reel, it was on!

Late this morning we went out to one of my deep water spots. Caught 8 with 5 keepers plus 2 white bass on Carolina rigged flukes, drop shot & slab spoons. Came back to the camp just after lunch. Filleted the fish & ate with fries, onion rings, cucumbers, & fresh tomatoes. Now that the rain is passed, I'm gonna go back out for a bit.

Good report Ronnie. Got on the lake Friday afternoon about 6:00 and fished till 10:00. Only caught two bass and both were before dark on black poppin frog, nothing after dark. Had one bite on ole monster worm and broke off. Saturday took kids crappie fishing and caught about thirty with a couple channel cats mixed in 20' water brushpiles. Saturday afternoon yard work around camp then cold brews on the porch. Sunday morning coffee on the dock and caught about thirty bluegill fishing night crawlers under popping cork. About 15 were pretty nice size, bigger than my hand. Overall nice break from the hardcore bass fishing we been doing. Just kinda chill-laxed this weekend. Fished Palo Gaucho for bass and crappie.

I fished Saturday and struggled. Caught 22 bass, had a 4lber and a 3lber and the other 20 were dinks.  I stayed in 20-30 ft. Went shallow, but never caught a fish up there. Had 4 blow up on a frog, but wouldn't eat it.

So my buddy and I went out yesterday in Palo Gaucho in the morning and started out fishing by the bridge on the banks using spinners, buzzbaits, but actually caught our two early fish on a crank and jigging spoon. After a while we went more towards the mouth and tried to fish big points and humps in +-20 fow. We tried deep cranks, drop shot, and jigging spoons but got nothing. So I have a question. My friend and I have tried fishing deep multiple times, and I feel like we are doing what we are supposed to do in that situation, but it seems that we can't figure it out. If any of y'all could give some deep water tips, or any tips at all, that would be great!

Deep fishing is tough on me too coming from 40+ years in the Atchafalaya Basin.  I found its not about "figuring out" anything.  Most can look on maps or map cards and see where they should be.  A week ago I got on a deeper bite after a couple of weekends of swinging and missing.  I caught a bunch, 75 or so in one small area.  I would say maybe 10 X 20 yards.  I just got on my best guess spot and fished it hard.  Took almost an hour to locate them on this spot.  It is easy to fish for an hour or more throwing at stumps, trees etc on the bank but it is hard for me to buckle down and fish what I can't see for that long.  But for me, thats the only way I can locate anything deep, unless the depth finder is really lighting up.  Hopefully the weather cooperates this weekend so I can get back up there.

Hi gents,

I've probably read this forum front to back at least twice and reference it often depending what time of the year I make my way to the lake. This is my first post so I want to say thanks to all who contribute, the information here is truly remarkable so I figured it was time to start making some contributions myself.

I'm heading to the lake tomorrow through Sunday so I'll give updates as I figure them out. Probably be starting with topwater and swimjigs around hay and peppergrass and go from there. Any additional help would be appreciated as far as focus depths throughout the day. I'll be concentrating on the Indian Mounds / Housen area. Thanks in advance and hopefully I can put together a decent few days and help others out.

I'm not sure if this will help any or not. Talked to a guy that fished Saturday out of Pirates Cove. Said he caught about 80. I don't doubt the number but do know this: If it bites, it counts so can't vouch for size. Said they were between the inside grassline and bank. Most came on a blue/white spinnerbait. When they quit on it; he caught more on a watermelon/red baby brush hog on Tx. rig.
