Ive broke off more this year than ever before myself but I've also used fluorocarbon alot more for the first time. Pay really close attention to my knots and moistening them and all that stuff but man I've lost some confidence in the stuff. Never broke off so much on big game or braid just saying. Both 6lbers had spawned out.  I'm not sure why I was breaking off. I guess I got a bad spool of line. I was using 20lb floro for my mainline and 16lb for my leader. I know for sure 3 of my break offs were on big fish, but the others just broke on the hook set.  One fish turned, pulled drag, and broke me. Sure wish I could have seen her! Quote
Flippman Posted April 6, 2016 Posted April 6, 2016 My dad and I fished last tues and wed in Indian Creek for two days, it yielded 3 dinks. We stayed shallow, 5ft and less. We plan on going back this weekend. It was funny, on the way to the lake, we stopped in Burkeville to gas up. A guy next to us has an ice chest full of 3 pounder's. He tells us exactly what to do, how to doit, and where to go. I tell my dad, "This trip is cursed now". We followed his instructions to the T, and set the hook maybe 8x's in 2 days. My point is I hate "dock talk" . . . it killed us. I was gunna focus on mid depth stuff, and I've never liked Indian Creek. I have a camp there (16years now), and absolutely don't like the area for bassfishing. My old man thinks nothing lives deeper than 10ft. I may keep the Humminbirds off this trip  Were you C-rigging BF? Were you on main lake points or secondary points, any main lake stuff yet? 3 Quote
Bryanhester Posted April 6, 2016 Posted April 6, 2016 Fished yesterday and found fish busting shad. May have been a shad spawn taking place. I could see pods of shad on the surface and hungry bass taking and easy meal. Caught fish on crank baits Carolina rigs and spoons. Evens caught a couple on jerk baits. Better action was in the morning and then slowed throughout the day.  Caught around 30 with 5lb being  the biggest.. 3 Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted April 6, 2016 Posted April 6, 2016 I'm catching them on both secondary stuff and main lake stuff. Just go out and fish the deep stuff you like, there will probably be fish there. 4 Quote

mguidroz Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 I fished Housen 1-10pm Friday. Water temp was 68-69. I didn't go near the bank. I was fishing post spawners 8 to 15 fow. 6 fish caught on 5XD CB and TR worms. Best five were 9, 7.5, 6.2, 6, and 4 lbs. My biggest fish came at 8:45 on TR  junebug worm. I fished points and secondary with creek channels adjacent to them. There was also isolated grass and stumps. If you didn't hit either you didn't get a bit. They were chocking the 5XD. I didn't caught many but all quality fish. Good luck and hope this helps. I want be on the lake for 3 to 4 weeks due to baseball. Quick picture and all released. 6 Quote
jcdogfish Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 Sorry, off topic. What do yall do for tv reception in the Hemphill/six mile area. Is there a local tv channel you can get with an antenna. Hate to pay 100 bucks a month for the camp. I don't watch much and can do and have been doing without but the wife likes tv. RCCA Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 If you have direct tv you can get another box and a dish and bring it over there. All on your same home bill. I think dish network is the same but not sure. Good luck. My wife has to have it too. Quote
jcdogfish Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 I had direct tv but we had to move last year. The place I live now does not allow a dish on the house. Was wondering if anyone tried a long range antenna. If I could get 1 channel I would be happy. Quote

Any pointers on where to start and what to look for would be much appreciated. With this crew, we'll only need to catch a few fish of any size to be a successful guide. Heading over this Friday. Got a place to stay just east of the 191 bridge. Any ideas for close places to start? Quote
june-bug Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 I wouldn't go far jp. Fish from the backs of the creeks past to the 1215 bridges north side of La Nana and work your way back toward the bridges with watermelon red trick worms tail dipped in chartreuse or weightless texas rigged senkos in christmas tree color. The fish in this area are mostly post spawn but they are still in the area. 1 Quote

june-bug Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 No problem bud. Fishing is a little tuff in that area right now but that pattern did produce some fish for me this month. I also suggest dragging a carolina rig off points a little deeper in the same area. A  chartreuse perch colored kvd 1.5 also produced a few fish.in 4' - 7' of water. 1 Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 Finally got back on Toledo today. Found big groups of fish, but couldn't get them to fire up again. We ended up catching 60 fish but nothing over 3lbs. Couldn't make them eat anything moving, had to drag something through them and even then they wouldn't eat it right. Hey would slam it hard and then drop it. Â Hey would fire up for about 5 minutes and we would catch 15 or so real quick then have to leave to find a new school. Overall, a fun day, but no size and frustrating being on literally hundreds of fish and not being able to make them bite. 4 Quote
skeeterzx250 Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 Hey anyone have any info in palo goucho I'm going this week never fished it. we staying at a place there and heard theres some good fish in there. is there any grass or haygrass or trees to flip. hope more will move up to spawn this week. and what should I throw. thanks Quote
Nicron Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 We fished Palo Gaucho again this weekend near our place.  The morning started with a giant school of shad near the boat house so with that in mind I started throwing a soft plastic segmented swim bait with a belly weighted hook right to the edge of the grass.   We hit some of the coves near the main lake entrance on the South side out of the wind.  Landed 2 very nice fish almost back to back.  I would drag the swim bait to the edge of the grass and let it fall and they would inhale it.  My brother was throwing a root beer/red flake creature TR and picked up a few more right on the grass lines or at the base of trees and brush.  Seen several nice schools on the graph  in about 10 feet + and tried some deeper presentations with no luck.  No huge numbers but the fish were decent in size.  Wind kept us off the lake on Sunday morning so we just sat on the dock and caught crappie.   1 Quote

Unless the full moon pulls some more up for spawning but just seems like in the majority of the spawning in this area is done.    2 Quote
EricYel Posted April 20, 2016 Posted April 20, 2016 Taking my 9yr old daughter on her first trip to Toledo Bend this weekend. This will be her first time fishing with me in a boat on a large body of water. She is stoked and I don't think I can be more excited. She has a brand new Zebco 33 Classic and I hope to get her on a few fish. Will be in lanan bay. Wish us luck! Will post our results next week. 4 Quote
RCCA Posted April 24, 2016 Posted April 24, 2016 Fished from 1pm Saturday to 1am Sunday. Caught 5 bass, 1 catfish, and one sac a lait. Caught a 9 pounder dragging a jig up a ridge from 20 plus to 14. That's deep for me. Progress. Thought I had my 10... 5 Quote
