I know where I'd be throwing em!

I've been studying my maps and will be spending Saturday there and a couple of days next week. Mostly be a lot of riding and scanning. We don't have  much  of a chance but I enjoy tournament fishing and the only way for me to learn Toledo is to get on it.

You never know LSU...you might just stumble onto a few good fish! With this weather staying warm for the next week I bet the big girls make a move up to shallower water.  I'll be up this Friday and Saturday. I might fish it as well if I can come up with anything.  I fished the Rattle Trap tournament on Rayburn and would have drawn a check if I'd have weighed in. Didn't thing 12.6 would have gotten it done and didn't want to take a beating to the weigh in for 12lbs...a mistake on my part.  I'd have broke even for the weekend if I would have.  I'll never do that again!   Good luck!

That's a huge sac-a-lait!  Haven't even began to try for them on The Bend. I want to but I'm obsessed with catching a 10 lb bass right now.

Good luck. I think I'm the only human on Earth that can't catch a bass on a rattle trap style bait. I'm gunna keep trying though!

Just getting back from the bend. We fished north of wrights landing and caught one flipping the bushes. Got our butts whipped in the wind. Ended up south, around 1215 and caught 5 more flipping. But I did catch my biggest fish ever. 6.1lbs :)

Catt, so after fishing the bend Sunday and Monday and trying some "new" areas and different types of fishing than im used to, I have some questions. I have been really trying my hand at this "Offshore Structure" fishing thing with absolutely no success.

Lets take a look at N 31.41091 W 93.72012 on Acme Mapper.

As you can see, we have a large hump, sitting next to a creek channel and the channel has a nice bend towards the south west corner of the hump. I thought FOR SURE i'd be able to find some fish in this area. I Approached the hump from the Northeast corner, making sure to throw some cranks, and texas rigged plastics 360 degrees around the boat. I threw into the VERY shallow area with bushes sitting in about 4 FOW, I threw over the contour lines that had depths from 4 Fow down to 15 FOW. No bites, so i moved my boat to slowly troll along the creek channel side of the Hump-- working north to south. This time i placed my boat in 15 FOW throwing up to 8ft and down to 30 FOW. After working that entire side, i noticed large schools of baitfish, some cover, and was thinking the whole time that it was only a matter of time before i hooked up with my first offshore bass. Wrong. I ended up fishing this area for close to two hours with not so much as a tap. I fished very slowly, threw Trigs, cranks, traps, worms, spinner baits, and jigs-- quite literally everything i had tied onto my 7 poles.

Ok, SO Catt, looking at these coordinates, how would you have approached this area? How would you have fished it?

All in all we had a good trip fishing areas im more comfortable with. We boated 40 or so fish in two days of fishing, but 30 of those fish came in 1 hour of lucking upon some schoolies and im dying to become more consistent on the bend.

Ps. some other offshore structure spots we briefly fished include: N 31.42086 W 93.74548  and  N 31.41837 W 93.74385..... Not one fish boated in any of these areas.

Just got back from the bend.. Shallow water patterns sucked for me. Must have been the high pressure. (Just need an excuse )..... Did get on a deep water bite and caught 19 with a couple of 4s and a five. 15 to 20 fow on a football jig.  This warm weather should have them on the move.

What did that sac-a-lait weigh?

It wasn't weighed or measured

2/12/16 F&F, caught 11, only 3 keepers made it in the boat. Caught fish from 2' to 28'. Thanks to instruction provided on site, finally trusted electronics and bagged my first deep (28') water fish in what I believe to be a channel swing. Strangest thing, it was an Albino-2-pounder! My dad, lost another albino 4lber on edge of boat just prior.  I didn't get that look yesterday?

Fished bass champs yesterday.  Went north trying to find some shallow fish and warmer water.  Ended up with 2 keepers only. Went past converse on Louisiana side.  Oh well, saw some new water.  Heard the winners was a husband wife team fishing out of a party barge.  Hoping to get back Tuesday and Wednesday.   The bites we had was in the buttonwoods in the back of coves.

My dad and I fished champs yesterday too. I knew it was going to be a tough one for us as a lot of fish have moved shallow, but we went down swinging for the fence out deep. Caught a few fish, but never got on much size. I did break off a good one on a jig and dropped a 3 at the boat. Just wasn't my day lol.

Spent Saturday (2/13) scouting for the Rat L Trap tx next Sunday.  All we threw all day was traps and Echo squarebills. Launched out of Turtle Beach landing.Started  on the east end of Boones crossover. Didn't find anthing. Ran into Salter Creek cove. Picked up 2 fish about 2.5 lbs each. Both on traps. Then went to south side of Negreet Cove along the channel. Two fish all day. But spent a good portion of the day scanning and looking. I'll be back Tuesday and Thursday checking out the Texas side. Pretty much just been studying maps trying to get a game plan together. I'm a die hard shallow water fisherman so I need to find good grass.

I fished Housen today from 9-5 and caught 15. I fished the front  1/3 of cove. All fish caught on TR and CR with baby brush hogs and senkos. Again adjacent to creek channels in 8-12 fow. Best five was 21-22 lbs with a 8# kicker.

Fished 6 mile Saturday and half day Sunday.  Saturday was brutal on me.  2 fish, first bite at 2:44 in the afternoon. Was a nice day. Sunday morning was a little better. Had 6 fish Sunday.  I think I was just trying to get them to do what I wanted them to do.   All fish were good solid 2-3 lb fish.  I would have loved to stay the whole week this week.

I fished Friday and Saturday. Stayed in Mill Creek for majority of the time. All my keeper fish came on Berkley Frenzy Traps in the grass and slow rolling the in ditches and creeks. I picked up a nice 5 1/2 Friday but nothing big on Saturday. I tried and few brush tops with jigs and Carolina rigs with no luck on both days. Also tried a jigging spoon on some main lake points that were holding schools of shad. I did mark some fish holding with the bait but didn't pick anything up their either. I'm still debating on fishing the Rattle Trap tournament...anyone know if they're going to allow trailering?

cool.  thanks guys.  fished 11 and 12 Feb with a  few decent fish off CR baby brush hogs around points and a few on weighted SENKOS around creeks and humps.  4 to 8 fow,

slow rolled 1/2 ounce trap and 3/8 chatter bait around creeks and nothing.  flipped a jig a little following creeks, nothing.

seems like when i can't much to bite slowing down with a SENKO always entices some.

Sounds like things are heating up nicely on Toledo, with 59 over 10 caught so far this year.

I am in the process of starting up my own business because offshore work is not looking good.  I can not go into the details on this forum so find me on Facebook. :)

Sorry for the late report but my son is keeping me busy with baseball and basketball.

Fished last Wednesday 2/11 and Thursday 2/12. Wednesday was tough 12 caught with 7 keepers. All caught on TR creature baits adjacent to creek channels in 8-12 fow. The thing I found is there had to be wood on the edge. Thursday was a good day. I friend met me and we fished from 8-6. The day started fasted with a quick 7 fish and then slowed. Then picked up again around 3pm. In all we caught 25-30 fish with the biggest around 3.5 lbs. Areas fished were adjacent to creeks in Housan and a hump 6-mile. We used the same pattern as Wednesday except for a few fish on spinnerbaits over grass. I did see a guy flipping hay grass catch a nice one in 6-mile. I should be up next weekend. Good luck everyone.
