zefman78 Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 Alright, we got on the water at 130pm today and had one fish till 430, then we found a point next to deep water, close to 4-6 ft flipping brush and found some schoolies where we caught about 30 in 30 minutes. It was AWESOME. ALL schoolies were caught on traps. One crawfish color, another gold black back orange belly. There were about 10-12 keepers but we kept 7 of the biggest (almost 4lbs. ) Wind kicked our ass most of the time but every fish was caught on a protected area from the wind ( those areas were tough to find) 1 Quote

mguidroz Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 Thank you Catt. I'm heading to the lake tomorrow and will post a report. 1 Quote
jcdogfish Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 Had 19 fish total Saturday, a few throwbacks. Most were solid fish but no large fish. Sunday 8 fish, quit at noon. Had a little breeze blowing most of the weekend. First trip in a couple of months so it was all good. I don't think I'll be skipping many weekends for the next few months. If Ya'll see a white and charcoal BassCat with a Yamaha, say hello. I fish from Paulo Gaucho down to Mill but am usually in Six Mile or Housen,or just outside that area. 2 Quote
TightLines_Matt Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 Hey guys, new to this post and after reading all of it the past few days i can tell you the information here is awesome! I fished Toledo this past Saturday. Started in Pirates Cove on the big main lake island (south side). Fished 14' and up to the haygrass and around the island working my way north. Picked up a few dinks up against the hay grass (6') . When i got to the north side of Pirates, past the stump flat, i worked the hay grass going east and picked up a few solid fish (3 pounds) on texas rigged brush hogs. After that the wind picked up and since we had launched out of Fin and Feather decided to make a run back across the lake before it got too bad. Too late. Made it back to Housen with a broke trolling motor strap and the transducer hanging. Picked up a few more on carolina rig off the big bluff bank on south side of housen near the boat lane before heading back to the launch. Anyone do any good this past weekend? Might go back this weekend, though it looks like it'll be quite a bit cooler. 1 Quote
TightLines_Matt Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 Catt, question for you. Our camp is on Lanan Bay just south northwest of the 191 bridge. I haven't spent a whole lot of time fishing this because most of my tournaments are lauched out of the southern end of the lake. Taking your advice and spending a whole year concentrating on where I am. Taking in to consideration the time of the year, would you suggest i start towards the back of Lanan or just start at the mouth? The islands on the north entrance look the best to me. Quote
zefman78 Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 Well today was a tough day for us. Started with 5 fish within the first 20 minutes of fishing. All of those fish holding to cover in 4-6ft near deep water (40ft). Nothing for the next hour and then my buddy landed a 6lber around 9am. Not another bite till 1230 and that was the last we had any recollection of bass being in toledo bend until the sun sunk under the horizon. We caught 2-3 more before we HAD to leave flipping in the bushes and i broke off a BIG fish right at the boat. We threw everything we had on em. 1 Quote

Sorry don't know how I missed this! Right now I would start at the mouth of creek channel coves & work towards the back. Beech & Little Beech Bayou should offer protection from northerly winds. Quote
zefman78 Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 Catt, so after fishing the bend Sunday and Monday and trying some "new" areas and different types of fishing than im used to, I have some questions. I have been really trying my hand at this "Offshore Structure" fishing thing with absolutely no success. Lets take a look at N 31.41091 W 93.72012 on Acme Mapper. As you can see, we have a large hump, sitting next to a creek channel and the channel has a nice bend towards the south west corner of the hump. I thought FOR SURE i'd be able to find some fish in this area. I Approached the hump from the Northeast corner, making sure to throw some cranks, and texas rigged plastics 360 degrees around the boat. I threw into the VERY shallow area with bushes sitting in about 4 FOW, I threw over the contour lines that had depths from 4 Fow down to 15 FOW. No bites, so i moved my boat to slowly troll along the creek channel side of the Hump-- working north to south. This time i placed my boat in 15 FOW throwing up to 8ft and down to 30 FOW. After working that entire side, i noticed large schools of baitfish, some cover, and was thinking the whole time that it was only a matter of time before i hooked up with my first offshore bass. Wrong. I ended up fishing this area for close to two hours with not so much as a tap. I fished very slowly, threw Trigs, cranks, traps, worms, spinner baits, and jigs-- quite literally everything i had tied onto my 7 poles. Ok, SO Catt, looking at these coordinates, how would you have approached this area? How would you have fished it? All in all we had a good trip fishing areas im more comfortable with. We boated 40 or so fish in two days of fishing, but 30 of those fish came in 1 hour of lucking upon some schoolies and im dying to become more consistent on the bend. Ps. some other offshore structure spots we briefly fished include: N 31.42086 W 93.74548 and N 31.41837 W 93.74385..... Not one fish boated in any of these areas. 1 Quote
RonnieF Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 Zefman, Years ago I fished this spot during the spawn. I got there very early after launching my 15' aluminum boat out of Alpine. On the way I saw a bunch of boats at the Public launch at carrice creek. I got to that island/hump, started fishing, then all those boats I saw started passing headed south. The boat lane heads N/S then turns E/W. Well, it felt like I was in a washing machine, waves coming from 2 different directions. I sure learned my lesson!! I did catch a few on suspending jerk baits at that time. Another time, around May that year, I caught a few throwing a Carolina rig into the creek channel and working it back shallow. It might be a good night time spot since (at that time) there was no vegetation. You might want to probe that inside section of the creek channel where it makes that hard bend. Quote
mguidroz Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 I fished Housen yesterday from 9-5. Only boated 12 fish with a 4 lber the biggest. I dropped one at the boat between 7-8 lbs. All fish caught on TR junebug baby brush hog in 12-18 fow adjacent to creek channels. I fished 6 mile and Housen today with 2 fish caught. It was rough and tough. I will be at them again tomorrow. 4 Quote

Super User Catt Posted February 5, 2016 Author Super User Posted February 5, 2016 Well Zefman I thought I knew where you were talking about & I was right. Never caught much in that are, don't know why, quite trying! Now if you look at the Hook-n-Line map to the northwest of there you'll see Spring Hill Bay & an old roadbed. That is what we refer to as Machine Gun Ridge, won some tournaments right there! I'll look into your other spots Quote

Ok Zefman ya on the wrong side of Palo Gaucho! Never done any good on that side from the mouth of Palo Gaucho to Goodlow Bluff! Now the first cove passed Goodlow Bluff & around to the mouth of Lowe's. Quote
