Shimsham Posted September 24, 2015 Posted September 24, 2015 Well then I'll with Lowe's Creek which is when it all began some 36 years ago Looking at your map find the mouth of Lowe's Creek, next look to the south and you will find Millionaire Point. You should also see a hump marked 22' a little to the east of the point with the creek passing to the north side of both the point and the hump. Next look south from Millionaire Point and you will see a 22' ridge running down across the boat lane and stopping at Cypress Slash; it short distance from there still heading south is another hump. Notice Lowe's creek and the Sabine River channel in relation to the point, hump, ridge, and island? You want to position the boat on the side of the point, hump, ridge, and 2nd hump closest to the channels. Next look at the words Oilwell Cove; look under the letters ve in the word cove and what do we see? That's right an underwater point in 22' foot of water that is near a creek and river channel intersection.  Mr. Tommy  You wrote, "...start deep and stay deep.." when discussing the above areas.  I would position myself near the first shallow break (yes I'm reading structure 101 lesson also) and fish both sides. With the understanding, the hungry bass come up from their deep confines to the shallows (depth of shallows dependent on area) to feed. Would that be a correct statement? The deepest I would feel comfortable casting is around 15-16'. Your statement makes me think you are going much deeper. How deep is a bass' habitat? Super User Catt Posted September 24, 2015 Author Super User Posted September 24, 2015 Shimsham what you must understand is all depths on that map are given with the lake level at 172' or full pool. The lake level today is 168.18; round that off at 168' even, 172' minus 168' equals 4' low. That 22' ridge, hump, or underwater point is now in 18' of water. If I'm out on the end of that ridge ( Cypress Slash) I cound easily be casting into 25-30' of water! 1 Quote
txbass1 Posted September 24, 2015 Posted September 24, 2015 If you spend time on Amistad, you will ditch all previous fears/notions of how deep big largemouth bass are comfortable taking residence. Then you will start pushing limits on local reservoirs and find fish that most people don't fish for. My biggest fish of the year (9#) and highest tourney finish this year cameon Rayburn out of 38 fow on the bottom- not suspended. The other four in that bag and the culls before it were caught from that spot on this point up to 26 fow. Don't think a spot is too deep to hold quality fish if everything they need is there. Tbend has the same places. Â Â 1 Quote
Super User Catt Posted September 24, 2015 Author Super User Posted September 24, 2015 Exactly txbass1 Today's anglers want to fish where they want with techniques they like not where the bass are! 1 Quote

Bass_Fanatic Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 Somebody please tell me a good fluorocarbon line. I don't like the ones I've tried. I use Sunline Sniper and seugar tasty. Tatsu is awesome, but pricey. Sniper is the best bang for the buck IMO Quote

Super User Catt Posted September 30, 2015 Author Super User Posted September 30, 2015 I'm taking a buddy who aint been on the Big Pond in years but he is only off on the 6 th & 7 th. It's going to be a marathon trip, fishing more than sleeping! I plan on launching at Fin & Feather so if y'all see 2 crazy Cajuns in 16' Alweld with a 40 Tohatsu blow your horn. Don't know if anyone has been in 944 lately but I've some good reports & that's why the tin boat! Quote
Super User Catt Posted September 30, 2015 Author Super User Posted September 30, 2015 What/where is 944 Catt? On The Big Pond Quote
Bryanhester Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 I caught some nice fish a couple of weeks ago from jacks 944 to the main lake on the west side on the edge of the grass in about 7 fow. All fish were caught on a plum Apple 7 inch worm. Quote
FishNChip Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 Stayed at Fox's about 2 weeks ago and did well on both N & S shore of H. Bayou very early and late in day on windy side. Best results with light T rigged U-tail in Black Ruby, with fish up to 7-5 in shallow water where grass and pads mixed. Hard to find color, may be discontinued in U-Tail? Speaking of which, when the Hauser's ran Fox's, they repackaged soft plastics and I have been trying to find what they sold as a 6-7 inch ribbon tail ring worm in Bloodline red color. Anyone with thoughts of where to get these? Quote
Super User Catt Posted October 1, 2015 Author Super User Posted October 1, 2015 FishNChip, I used Gene Larew but they stopped making them, then I used Ringed Rascel but can not find them any more, & Ann's Tackle in Jasper had some she had made in Mississippi but I aint been there in a couple years. Ring Worms in camo were my favorite Quote
FishNChip Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 I thought they were Gene Larew's but when I couldn't find the exact thing I wasn't sure. Discontinued, that explains it. I will try Ann's.  Thanks Catt Quote
FlukeJr Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 Hey guys, I've been a lurker here for almost a year. I've been reading your very informative post and using some of yall's recommendations on the Bend. Finally decided to create and account and post because I'm bringing my kid to Toledo tomorrow, Friday 10-2, to try some bass fishing. Staying near 1215, and it looks like the weather is perfect for everything but bass fishing. Cool, clear, with a north wind is the kind of weather that usually skunks me at Toledo. My son has been looking forward to this trip for months and I'd hate to go 2 days without a fish! Question, do any of you have any suggestions for fishing the San Miguel/1215 area in these brutal, bluebird, post-frontal conditions? I'll hang up and listen now. Â Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 Welcome to the forum FlukeJr! Looks like I'll be out there tomorrow too. I plan on staying shallow for the most part. Throw reaction baits such as traps and burning a blade to get lethargic fish to eat, but it don't think it's going to be as tough as you think Quote
back water Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 I guess you got your boat back since your fishing LOL Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 Got my boat back today, going to see how it runs with he grey lower unit on it. Quote
