kingmotorboat Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 Lol we shall see. If these fish ever stop suspending it might actually be a fun time... Hence the come to Calcasieu idea Quote
june-bug Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 So the state record bass is 15 pounds 14oz if i'm not mistaken. How many of you think that there is a new state record bass swimming in Toledo's water? It seems that we see an ever increasing amount of 10 and 11 pounders but when you start getting into that 12 -13 pound range theres just not that many of them. I realize that that we are talking about some huge fish once you start getting into the lower teens but with as many big fish as we are seeing you would think that we would see the occasional 14 -15 pound fish or maybe a new state record. Whats your thoughts? Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 No doubt in my mind there quite a few state records swimming around in Toledo. My buddy works for LDWF and they shocked up an 18lb bass on Sibley lake a few years ago. Those fish are just so smart that we may never see them. Quote
bullet20 Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 The 8 and 9 lbers or way smarter than me.lol 1 Quote
RCCA Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 I'm sure they're there. I'll worry about them after I catch a 10 lol Quote
Super User Catt Posted July 15, 2015 Author Super User Posted July 15, 2015 Shock test show more 10+ bass per acre on Toledo than on Fork! It also showed bass that in all probability never seen a lure in their lifetime! 1 Quote
fishnla Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 While y'all are still on the subject of BIG GIRLS, I might have some news. This is coming from my dad who is always joking around, so I'm kinda skeptical. His buddy just pulled in a 12.93 and weighed it at TT. I saw a pic of it and its a really nice one, but I won't believe for sure until I see it somewhere else. It wrapped his trolling motor twice and when they lipped it the bait was just laying in his mouth not even hooked. Quote
fishnla Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Just got it verified and he isn't lying to me. It really is a 12.93. Quote
june-bug Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 That's awesome man cant wait to see pictures ! Quote
june-bug Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Also while we still on this subject why is it in yalls opinion that the vast majority of these 10 plus pounders seem to be caught from the south side of the bridge? More fishing pressure? More accessible ? I'm sure that they must have the big girls up north just the same but the southern portion of the lake is almost always mentioned in these reports. Quote
fishnla Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Everyone is entitled to there own opinion on this one but my opinion is the north doesn't have near as many 10+ but has a larger average size than the south. Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 I believe it has to do with water levels and grass. The past 5 years have been dominated by the south, but if you look, this year since the water has come back up the north end has been every bit as productive if not better. The 38lb stringer from this past Sunday was caught north and I know that basschamps was won north. The south end has better habitat for big fish with deeper water and deeper grass, but don't count out the north end when the water is up. 1 Quote
Super User Catt Posted July 15, 2015 Author Super User Posted July 15, 2015 More lake records, 10# plus bass, & tournament wins have came from Indian Mounds to Mill Creek than any where on the lake. This area also gets fished more Quote
Red_Ranger04 Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 Hello all. I'm from a small town just south of Sam Rayburn. I don't tournament fish or any of the sort but I must say I have zero experience or knowledge about Toledo Bend. I'm thinking of making the drive over next week to the south end of the lake. I will be coming from Woodville tx so I have no idea what to expect when I arrive. I'm looking for bigger fish( fishing deeper water). I'm trying to drive the minimal distance and I'm clueless as to where to start. Any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance. Quote
RCCA Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 Hello Ranger. I just really started fishing The Bend again this year but considering where you're coming from Mr. Catt said it right above. Good luck to ya. Quote
Super User Catt Posted July 16, 2015 Author Super User Posted July 16, 2015 Getting to the lake from Woodville is easy...getting around on the lake is something else! If ya read this thread we cover Mill Creek! Quote
june-bug Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 Headed to the lake this afternoon for the weekend. Its been two weeks and I think i'm having withdrawl symptoms lol. Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 Headed to the lake this afternoon for the weekend. Its been two weeks and I think i'm having withdrawl symptoms lol. Ill be there tomorrow! Â Where do you plan on fishing? Quote
june-bug Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 Ill be there tomorrow!  Where do you plan on fishing?  I’m gonna put in right by my camp which is in Rebel Ridge Cove. It’s a small cove right next to the bluff wall on the Texas side  pretty much straight across from Cypress Bend . From there I am going to fish Lowes Creek or Palo Gaucho . Being that I am situated right between the two I am determined to learn as much as possible about these two creeks. I am learning a little more every time I go but man it tough for a coon azz like me to learn to fish deep. I am getting more confidence in it all the time though and you just can’t beat pulling a nice chunk out of twenty feet of water. Where you planning to fish ? Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 I'll be in lowes some, but then plan on headingorth to learn some stuff on the river channel north of patroon. Quote
woodchuck Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 Wife has rented a house for first week of Aug, best I can tell it is in Lanana Bay. I have never been on Toledo Bend before, how is the this area for running? Are boat lanes well marked etc.? Any help - advice would be appreciated. I will be bass fishing mostly, but since  grown kids and grand kids are coming also will probably try for crappie also. Thanks and good fishing Quote
RCCA Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 I stayed there last month. Boat lanes are very well marked. I only bass fished there one late afternoon. Didn't get a bite. Quote
jacob2000 Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 So my lakehouse is in Palo Gaucho, and from what I've seen from the topo maps (i.e. Hook n' Line), there's not many large depth changes or humps. From what I've learned this summer, bass collect on main lake points and humps when it gets hot. Yet people still fish there frequently. I don't know quite what to look for in Paulo Gaucho in not only the summer, but in any of the other seasons as well. Has anyone fished there frequently or know places for me to look for when I'm there? Quote
Super User Catt Posted July 17, 2015 Author Super User Posted July 17, 2015 Look @ ya map Hines creek #57 on the map, arrow to the right, see creek channel Spring Hill Bay; roadbeds, creek channels, under water ridges Quote
RCCA Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 How was the fishing you lucky dogs? You may have seen me circling the lake like an Eagle looking for a camp. Quote
