Super User Catt Posted March 19, 2015 Author Super User Posted March 19, 2015 What can of information can you draw by looking at lake levels? besides the obvious depth of the water.. In other words, what does a high or low lake level protray to you as a fisherman concerning where you go or what you throw? As of 3-19-15 Lake level: 172.89, last five days 172.3 - 173' Generator #1: Sabine River running 24 hrs Flood gates: Toro Creek, 9 opened @ 3' 171-173' is high despite the stated flood stage is 172'. Normal is usually 169-170. I expect to find nest farther back in the brush if the level stay high. I expect the back of creeks to be off colored, again normal. As always I pick an area with the least boat traffic & fish it! Quote
Saltyredneck Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 Does anyone here beside me target spotted bass? I like to load up on them this time of year and throughout the summer/fall.  Since have been discussing spawn, has anyone caught spotties with eggs or any signs of spawn?? What depths do spotted bass typically spawn at? I assume its deeper than that of largemouths.  I have have been catching spots in about 10-12ft close to their summertime hangouts, but no where near the numbers the same area will produce in April/May/June.  I tend to get on spotted bass near hard bottom drop offs or islands close to deeper water.... certain times of the year I can dial my watch to where they will be. Seems like spotted bass aren't really a thing of interest in toledo bc they dont get very big... but i love catching those lil suckers. Cranking, carolina, topwater... you name it.  If you dont like catching em, I surely will go get some of that tasty meat for my family. Just point me in the right direction!!!! Quote
Super User Catt Posted March 20, 2015 Author Super User Posted March 20, 2015 Toro Creek below the levee is plum full of em! I wade fish & catch 30-40 a day, it's cold fast moving water! Quote

BulletDon Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 I will be up there this weekend. have a club tourney and we are going out of Indian Creek by the dam. Been awhile since I was on the bend, can't wait.  On another note, any Humminbird users out there? If so, I have an 1199csi for sale $1,700, had 604 hours as of 1/15. Bought last year 2/27/14, I upgraded to the Onix. Just thought I would pass this along since I will be up that way this weekend if anyone is interested and would not have to pay for shipping. If interested give me a call at 512-431-5977. Comes with everything you need to start scanning. This unit was on my console. No GPS puck, has internal.  I will be fishing out of my buddy's Ranger (red, black, white) this weekend with twin power poles. Stop by and say hello. Super User Catt Posted March 24, 2015 Author Super User Posted March 24, 2015 Come on summer! There's some big bass being caught right now but I hate fighting the conditions Quote
Saltyredneck Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 3/22  Cold front the morning of and rain over the weekend had the fish lockjawed all morning. Did manage a 4, 2.5, and another 2.5 on wacky worms. Arnolds, big Bass, and negreet were very stained. Huge amounts of pollen eliminated sight fishing completely. Missed several fish that just moved the baits and lost a giant in some buck brush with two others breaking off. Most of my fish were caught close to the mouth of the coves in 7-9 ft where visibility was best. Every bite was faint. Heavy rains had the beds under 2 ft of where they normally are. Best temps were btw 54-56 with dirty water getting up to 57 by 12pm. Short morning but i think the bite wouldve gotten better as the day progressed. Oh well. Back again in april. Quote
jcdogfish Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 I also found the morning to be much slower, which is probably to be expected right now. Bigger fish bit midday for me. Quote
Super User Catt Posted March 24, 2015 Author Super User Posted March 24, 2015 Conditions are tough! Ya gotta keep chunkin-n-reelin Quote
LaRoper Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 We are back up on the Bend. Bad foggy this morning, going to make a slow ride first thing. Heard a 11 something was caught yesterday. Quote
LaRoper Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 Water in Negreet creek is chocolate milk. Water temperature 63 to 65 in different places. Bite is slow, fish are following water up high on the banks 1 to 2 ft of water. Quote
geauxtigers Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 I'm headed up there the middle of next week, for about 5 days!!!! Will the spawn be over by then???? Thanks!! Quote
blanked Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 I just got back from fishing 6 mile today and yesterday. Tough for me. 5 fish total nothing over 2 pounds. Only my third time there Worked the grass from shoreline out to 18 feet. Back of coves and secondary points. Muddy water to stained water. T rig, c rig , senkos and spinnerbait. Where did I go wrong Quote
Wesley Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 No the spawn will be on for the next couple of full moons. They maybe be scattered out around all the newly flooded brush. I caught my fish slow working wacky style senkos. Quote
Bryanhester Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 Fished lowes and negreet today. Finished up with 14 all caught flipping bushes in 2 to 3 feet of water. Thicker the bush the better. Bigger fish came in point bushes. Be back next week !! Quote

geauxtigers Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 Devils horse Sexy frog Kvd 1.5 square bill Spinner bait Slither rig with rodent trailer Wacky worm Lipless crankbait Is that some good choices for next week??? If so which one would yall try??? I'll be there April 1-6th during full moon!!! Thanks!!! Quote
ToledoMard928 Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 The last few reports I have gotten have all been on T-rig lizards or crature baits flipped in the bushes. There has alos been a consitant bite on wacky rigged soft plastics and fluke/senko type baits. These patterns are mainstays this time of year. In addition to the above stated baits I would have a top water plug (rouge type or chug bug) and a square bill tied on as well. 1 Quote
kajun32 Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 Well then I'll with Lowe's Creek which is when it all began some 36 years ago Looking at your map find the mouth of Lowe's Creek, next look to the south and you will find Millionaire Point. You should also see a hump marked 22' a little to the east of the point with the creek passing to the north side of both the point and the hump. Next look south from Millionaire Point and you will see a 22' ridge running down across the boat lane and stopping at Cypress Slash; it short distance from there still heading south is another hump. Notice Lowe's creek and the Sabine River channel in relation to the point, hump, ridge, and island? You want to position the boat on the side of the point, hump, ridge, and 2nd hump closest to the channels. Next look at the words Oilwell Cove; look under the letters ve in the word cove and what do we see? That's right an underwater point in 22' foot of water that is near a creek and river channel intersection. I want to learn to fish bass on Toledo yr round. AND CATCH BASS! Quote
