drobe Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 I would greatly appreciate any help you guys would be willing to give. Thanks! Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 It's according to how you like to fish. If you like fishing banks with spinnerbaits, senkos, ect, I would say spend some time up around blue lake and San Patricio. If you like fishing offshore grass (which is what I'd do) spend time in housen. 1 Quote
Super User Catt Posted December 24, 2014 Author Super User Posted December 24, 2014 Dang we went from winter to mid-march! With cold fronts every 3-4 days our biggest determining factor from now through the spawn will be weather. I pay close attention to how stable the weather was prior to the front and how severe the front is. Winter time I like a Jig-N-Craw & Texas Rigged Craw Worms During December/January I'll slowly start targeting wood more than grass. I'll also start looking in the back of creeks cause by mid- Febuary we'll be talking pre-spawn. I want to follow the fish I'm on now through the winter to the spawn. Quote
rgbtr196le Posted December 25, 2014 Posted December 25, 2014 Ok Catt Im in the military and been fishing T Bend for a little more than a year now. I have to break myself of beating the bank.....learn the deeper aspect of the lake. This is what I have learned. 1) 15 foot of water +/- 3 ft 2) Do map study with a 3D mindset 3) Get off the bank 4)The outer grass edge is not the edge we normally see 5) In Dec/Jan look for wood/stumps 6) When selecting grass to fish, look at the topography below it 7) Eliminate unproductive patterns/water.....duplicate productive patterns/ water Ok think I covered the main points. I asked about Six Mile and you said to pick shore where creek channel swings near it. Ok deeper water aspect. Now time to put the pieces together. Thank you Catt! Quote
drobe Posted December 25, 2014 Posted December 25, 2014 Thanks for the help! This will narrow down my research so I can focus on specific areas. I appreciate it a lot! Quote
Super User Catt Posted December 25, 2014 Author Super User Posted December 25, 2014 drobe, While Toledo Bend has an abundance of grass it is first and foremost a heavily timbered lake, quite often anglers are so busy fishing grass they ignore the wood. As we get deeper into winter and the shallow grass dies off the guys who spent all year fishing grass is left scratching his head. By the time your tournament arrives the lake will be in pre-spawn or spawn depending on what part of the lake you are fishing. My question to you is where is the official tournament launch site? drobe Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 I believe I'll be launching out of cypress bend park. They haven't set anything in stone yet except for the date. Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 Heading up there with a buddy in the am. Will give a report tomorrow night. Quote
rgbtr196le Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 Catt....I picked a few areas in Six Mile from the hook n line map using what I have learned here. 1) As you enter Six Mile Creek on the north bank under "Six Mile" of Six Mile Bay. Theres a point there with deep water access or creek channel running on both sides. 2) Head west from point #1 at Gilley's Point there is a hump marked 22' with the creek channel running on the south side if it. 3) Continue west again to Six Mile field 23....south of that is a longer tapering point with a roadbed, grass and the creek channel access. What do you think of these areas? Quote

Bass_Fanatic Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 We'll guys, not much to report. Fished from the dam to housen. Caught 12 fish, 10 coming in the first 30 minutes of the day. Most fish were in the 3-4lb range. All solid fish, but no real good ones. Top 5 would have went about 18lbs. Caught the, on grass points in 15ft of water throwing moving baits. Got 2 bites on a Crig, but missed both. 2 Quote

Bass_Fanatic Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have 18lbs everyday! Lol. It was just really slow after the first 30 minutes. Only 2 fish in the last 7 hours Quote
RonnieF Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 After that early flurry, my mind would wander and I'd probably miss the other bites. Or I'd be back at the camp eating lunch! 1 Quote

Super User Long Mike Posted January 6, 2015 Super User Posted January 6, 2015 Folks. just a reminder that the annual BassResource Road Trip will be held at the Fin & Feather Resort on Toledo Bend from March 18th thru March 23rd. Everyone is invited, young (but 18 or older without parent or gaurdian) or old, male or female, beginner or expert, boater or non-boater.  For more information see the 2015 Road Trip thread in the General Bass Fishing forum. The following is my latest post.  OK guys, let's have a head count. If you are going to make the trip, PM me with the following: Screen Name Real Name Cell Phone Number Emergency contact person and phone number  Will you be bringing your boat, and if so, do you have a seat available? Otherwise, do you need a seat?  I will keep the information you provide confidential and will post on the forum only your screen name, the number of seats available, and the number of seats needed.  In addition, if you are interested in hosting a bar-b-que, fish fry, or some other meal for our group then please let me know. As on previous Road Trips, we will ask that the attendees make a contribution to help offset your costs for the meal. I'll start it off. Road Warrior and I will host a hamburger cook-out on one of the evenings.  When I have received all of your info I will post a list of attendees and a formal ajenda for the get-together. Remember, this is not a tournament. It's just a bunch of guys and gals who want to meet and fish with new friends and old ones. AG12 Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Hello everyone, I am new to this forum and I have read about half of the post starting back in 2008! It's great to find a group that are willing to offer info to help other fisherman with the same passion. I have a lake house in Rebel Ridge, which is located north of Lowes Creek on the big cliffs across from Cypress Bend. I spend a lot of my time on the Bend and will be fishing a tourney out of Six Mile this Saturday, yes in the cold and rain. I will post our results and lake conditions after the tournament. Has anyone been on the water this week? I'm heading up Thursday for a little prefishing. I am looking forward to reading the rest of your post and catching up. Hopefully I can pay back the info that I have already received from you y'all. Thanks. JW. Quote
