Saltyredneck Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 Do any of you night fishing guys find the solunar tables to be accurate about the peak times of fishing?? Major (22:02 - 23:59) Of course other factors come into play (wind, clouds, temps, etc.) ... but generally speaking would you use these tables as a guide? Trying to decide if i am going to make a full night trip on the full moon or just pull a 2am to 9am type trip. Any advice? Quote
Super User Catt Posted August 4, 2014 Author Super User Posted August 4, 2014 I've fished every possible moon phase & evening to morning with good results. Quote
Super User Catt Posted August 4, 2014 Author Super User Posted August 4, 2014 cmitch05, How y'all are? FYI: Spring Hill! Quote
Many Boy Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 I'm with Catt on the solunar tables, the best time to fish is when you can! Those tables only work good when the fish are biting. Ha! I've found the bass at night are just as unpredictable as day, they can bite at any given time, you just have to be there. Quote
jcdogfish Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 Not a fishing question, hope yall don't mind. Looking for places to eat at the lake. I usually eat at Sportsmans, Fin and Feathers, or grab some bar b que at Hemphill. Where do ya'll go when not eating at the camp? Quote
shaneus Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 We boycott sportsman since they don't give free refills, and everyone that works there is old and grumpy....We always hit fin and feather Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 Big mommas seafood right beside big daddy's gas station is a great place to eat Quote
Saltyredneck Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 well we all know that the weather man is wrong more than most... windfinder.com is calling for 15-23 mph gusts from 10pm to 1am Fri/Sat and 15-18 mph gusts from 10pm to 1am Sat/Sun out of the South. Guess we shall see Friday if its gonna change... wont know til I go! Quote

shaneus Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 We did the math the last time we sat there at the sportsman, it would take 16 glasses of tea per person before it would cost them money on it. That was using bottled water..........We don't support the insanity.....because the excuse they gave me was it costed to much money. Rant over sorry Quote
ToledoMard928 Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 Baseball is finally over!!! Headed up to the big pond Thursday-Sunday, not sure who is more pumped....me or my little man!!!! 2 Quote

Rant over sorry I find that strange, they even ask me if I want a drink to go. Maybe the word got back to them,,or maybe its cuz I'm old and grumpy too. Anyway, thanks. Back to fishing. Anyone else finding the fish shallow, as in 8 to 10 feet or so. Quote
Super User Catt Posted August 6, 2014 Author Super User Posted August 6, 2014 As much as I love Hemphill they simply refuse to grow! Heck all of Toledo Bend is that way! I could retire on that lake but my wife says she could not cause there isn't much to do other than fishing...told her I'll see ya on weekends! Quote
jcdogfish Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 Me and the wife are the same way Catt. She will come from time to time but its usually just me and fishing. It seems like there would be some kind of growth, places to eat, things to do etc. but I guess the local economy cant support it. But when I think about it that may be what I like about the place. I have not been in a while but a friend of mine did tell me he had a couple of good days on the inside grass line on a carolina rig. Not sure of the conditions though....cloudy, rainy, clear skies...etc. Quote
Saltyredneck Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 Hope to post a report after this weekend. Will be fishing this afternoon and heading back out around 2am. I will be concentrating on ridges and points near grasslines. 20-30 ft. Anxious to try out the livingston lures... see what all the fuss is about. Quote
hunterfishes Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 Well I wish you better luck than us we managed to get to fin and feather twice this week. We have thrown everything but the tackle box from 5 feet to 35 feet and have managed 2 short fish and got nothing this morning. there seems to be no top water bite early at all. I am really at a loss to explain it. have thrown Carolina rig and texas rig and manged to lose 2 10XD crankbaits. I think I will just stay home till the water temp falls below 80 LOL Actually my son has two tournaments on Toledo in the next month, but from what I have done we ain't gonna do too well. Anyway good luck to all this weekend the lake is in great shape water level is good and lake is clear around Housen. Quote
LaRoper Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 Guys, headed up to lake tomorrow for a day trip. Going to launch out of Pirates Cove, not my normal fishing area. Anyone have suggestions for this area? Thanks, Blake Quote
jcdogfish Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 lI had to cut my trip short but Saturday was a tough day for me. 2 bites from daylight to noon. Looks like they are generating in the afternoon. I fished the texas side. I talked to a guy that was up there all week and he told me its been tough on him all week too. I promise you,,somebody is catching them. Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 Night time!!! Two different buddies of mine had over 30lbs this weekend at night. Quote

Saltyredneck Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 Didnt get to night fish due to family illness, but i did get to fish Sat and Sunday morning. Saturday only yielded 2 fish (both keepers) from daylight til 9 am. Deep points with grass. Sunday I hopped around a bunch. Fished Tennessee bay, Lowes, and Millionaire. 6 keepers total. Had to finesse fish the entire morning... what a grind. TOUGH two days of fishing... and HOT as heck. Quote
ToledoMard928 Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 Made the annual family trip to the big pond Thursday-Sunday. Made a few trips in the mornings and afternoons around the kids tubing and swimming schedule. Bite was tough....really tough. Everything came on deep humps near the river channel or creek bends....carolina rig brush hogs was our ace in the hole. Did not get alot of bites but what did bite was good fish. My son and I had a 5.5, 3.7 and a 3.4 for our biggest 3. Lake is beautiful and there is a ton of bait in the 18 to 35 fow range. Quote
Sacalait_38 Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 Not much of a report because I only made 3 cast all weekend due to having non fishing inlaws with me. We were just boat riding thursday afternoon and I stopped by a hump that I usually catch good on to make a few cast. On my 3rd cast, I caught a 11.5 pounder on top of the hump in 8 foot of water on a big watermellon red worm. It did not fit in the livewell on the boat that I was in so we just took pics and let it go. I have been fishing hard all year and I caught the biggest bass of my life just goofing off, I wish I had taken my boat out so I could have brought it into Toledo Town to get weighed but I guess that is how it goes. 1 Quote
