What name brand worm doesn't really matter, throw what you like. Same for color!

My Texas Rig setup will be 3/16 oz in wind less than 10 mph, 1/4 oz the rest of the time.

Jigs vary from 1/4-1/2 oz

Carolina Rig is 3/8 oz

OK Guys..., here is the first spot that I decided has some potential and I will try and fish (daytime / early morning)

#1 On the map in the mouth of six mile, the large font that says 6 mile Bay, if you look at the word "mile", I believe that to be an underwater point  12 FOW that drops off in to 32 FOW, with what I believe to be a creek channel running to the of it.  My first mission from what I have learned here is that I would hold the boat in the 12 FOW and throw in to the channel and fish it back to me..., I would use Crig or a jig so that I could maintain constant bottom contact. The only issue is I obviously dont know if there is grass near that creek channel or not...?

I am very good with C-rig,  / T-rig but to be truthful, have never caught a fish on a jig (whole other story) but I want to become proficient with that as well, but first and foremost I have to learn to identify and be able to be in "productive water...

#2  Louisiana spot that I want to try and night fish this friday...Louisiana side North of Kites Landing (1" from Kites square box, there are a bunch of finger looking covesI like the two outermost indentations esp the one closest to main lake as it appears that the creek channel runs straight through the middle.  Picked these two little points formed by the coves because they are very close to what I believe is a well defined ridge  which runs parallel to the inside of main boat lane. The contour lines on the ridge are tight so my Army days tell me it drops sharply into deep water.....( by the way I did not even notice the red lines which indicate it is a fishing area..., had to check the legend to see what they were....

#3 Night spot ....to the north of last spot maybe 1.5 inches....the two secondary points that face the north...  Picked because a ridge appears to run off the one point and there is a road bed coming off of the other point within 1/4 in to the right of it. I would hold the boat in 15 FOW from the bank where the ridge is, cast out in to the deep water and work up the ridge.  I would then attempt to find the road bed and fish it....? Not sure how to determine the road bed on electronics if the bottom is already semi flat....? ( my electronics are older (two lowrance lms 520Cs) GPS sonar combo....) additionally I have navionics hotspots (southern) which I plan to scan very closely as i fish

I will texas rig and ole monster in RedBug..., and maybe a super speed craw in watermelon candy in both of these areas....should i try a jig as well...., I suck with a jig but need to learn.  C-rig is my comfort zone so I can go to that if necessary....

oK..., critique my plan and tell me how I did and if I have made good decisions...., any additional baits that I might try at night (new or old) pls mention them...

I know this area hold some big fish as I caught my only 10lb fish at night maybe an 1/8 mile to the south...., but like I said..., Im out to find new things....

Thanks in advance to all...

Good job Hoyt1!!!!!!  A well thought out plan.

When the expert reads your post (Catt), he will give you a critique.  That is what he does and he is good at it.

I, on the other hand, only fish T-Bend a couple times a year and cannot hold a candle to their knowledge.

hoyt1 here's what I read in your post!

Self confidence! Ya got none!

Ya can't fish a jig, so freaking what!

Ya can fish a Carolina Rig, most guys can not!

Your depth finder is out dated, again so freaking what!

On my little Stratos I have a Hummingbird 535 in the bow & a Eagle Fish Easy on the console. It aint about what ya got...it's how ya use what ya got!

One suggestion on 6-Mile, look at both sides of the creek!

Got it...., no self confidence and check both sides of the creek channel :thumbsup4:

What? Wasn't the answer ya wanted ;)

Hello Catt,

New to this forum.

I have read the post until I have overloaded my thinker. You have put out some great information. I have a camp on Toledo at Turtle Beach.

Just wanted to let you know I still have around 190 pages to go. Keep up the great work.

Had a pretty fun couple if days fishing on the bend all fish caught on football jigs and spoons. All in San Miguel . Got my daughter on more white bass than she could handle. She is hooked !!!!! I love deep summer time bass on the bend.

Welcome LaRoper!

Never got on a white bass bite, just random here & there.

Gilley's Point or High Line Cove - easily identified by the concrete bulkhead on the west end of the cove and a power line inside the cove that runs east to west. The complex coves within the area is excellent in the spring. In the summer the bass work the center of the cover. Look at the structure around the end of Gilley's point! Bream beds stretch from the west end of the entrance through each cove. Hint bream colored cranks!

Catt, first of all, they haven't moved Toledo Bend. It is still there, I was able to find my trailer on Yocum after three or four months absents. Looked a little different with all the grass, weeds, and bushes.

With Dixie Youth All-Stars and travel ball over, I promised my twelve year old grandson and two of his friends ,I would take them to the lake for a week of some swimming, knee boarding, bream fishing, and trying to learn to ski!

I was able to get away one night with my grandson for his first night bass fishing Monday July 7, between 7:30 pm to midnight. Fished main lake points at Wilson's creek in fifteen feet, both directions, to deep and then shallow, found them in shallow. With this being his first night fishing experience there where some bad moments, bird's nests, mosquitoes, can't see, I'm hungry, I need to pee, setting hook on grass bits, etc. Great learning experience for him.

The young fella was not able to land one, but, hung in there like a trooper (proud papi). I was able to catch, 1 ea. 4 1/2 lber, 3 ea. 2lbers. Caught fish on Zoom 6" G-tail in Junebug, using 4/0 straight shank round bend hooks as recommended by the master for better hook ups. Worked!!!! Thanks.

Great week with grandson and friends. Making many memories for them and especially for me.

Mguidroz, I owe you a fishing trip, preferably at night, will be getting in touch with you

Good trip Brian.

I can't make it up there this weekend but will probably be there next weekend.  Good to know there is some good activity somewhere.

Catt, what is the name of the small cove west of gilleys that also has a high wire across it?

Cajunpapi, it's good to hear from you. I've been baseballing it also and haven't fished in over 80 days. I should be at the lake Wednesday evening until Saturday. If you will be up there we can get together. Take care.

After reading more than a few pages of this thread here is what I've learned.

1. There are 2 or 3, in their own mind, toledo bend elite anglers that everyone else tries to get there approval for some reason.

2. If you are not going to tell the "whole" story on an area, keep your "HINTS" to yourself.

3. There are some on here that has fished all 186,000 acres of the bend.

Fill free to add your own observations.

Catt,

What a read, read it all this weekend. I've been in the right spots, but fishing them totally wrong. I mainly fish Negreet area. Plan on getting out to the camp next week.

But anyhow thanks for all the tip and information on this thread.

Toothpick or shoe pick or whatever, feel free to contribute "the whole story" on whatever spots you may have. I'm always game to find out all the secrets of an area, Might help me in my next tournament! To the " two or three elite anglers" thanks again for all you contribute! I'm learning more and more every time I go to the lake!

Here is a tip someone may find useful. I use this to compare what was there before the lake was ever built.

 http://www.historicaerials.com/

You can punch in Lat/Long, or town nearby. Once you got that, go to top and select "Compare, then Dissolve" You will have a selection of Aerial maps and new and old topo's. You can look back I think to 1941 topo and compare it to today's aerial, satellite images.

Hope this helps someone out.

1215 is a good spot. Try plastics on the road bed.

239 pages 3,576 replies & that's all ya got?

Your reading comprehension not to high!

Still waiting on your deep philosophical views on this thread, it's members, & your mastery of the big pond!

Just a point of interest, According to my calculations if someone fished all 186000 acres, averaging 20 minutes per acre, 3 acres per hour, 8 hours a day and 100 days a year it would take 77.5 years to "fish" every acre.

I know thats not what you meant Shoe, but some unselfish guys with lots of knowledge are nice enough to share their knowledge with everyone that wants to learn.  I'm sure all here would be interested in your insights and the knowledge you have if you care to share.  I don't think anyone is interested in having you put down the folks that want to learn or bashing the guys that are sharing information that would take years to learn on your own.  I hope you choose to contribute and not drag down what is obviously a thread that has lots of interest.
