back water Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 Bryanhestor:  I bet that was fun, nothing better than the top water explosion. I have a tendency to jerk too soon. Did your frog have a single or double hook?? 1 Quote
cajunpapi Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 Great report! I aint made a trip lately & it don't look good for anytime soon. Catt, I finally made a trip, it had been since Feb 10 ,( missing the spawn). After a bout with A-Fib and having to spend a month training America's finest at Fort Polk ,I was able to get out with my brother ,who I don't see much. We fished on May 27,28,and 29th. It seems when he comes it is the worst weather and fishing conditions. In between thunder storms and windy condition we were able to get out for a few hours. Tried to get on main lake points from Kites to Boone"s Point on Louisiana side Caught 6 small fish for the three days, one hell of a fishing report. Quote
Super User Catt Posted June 1, 2014 Author Super User Posted June 1, 2014 cajunpapi, every trip rather good or bad is a learning experience! When the weather is difficult I tend to slow down, not trying to cover a lot of water but rather cover smaller areas thourghly. Quote
cajunpapi Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014  Catt, always taken with appreciation. My learning experience is short,  being an inexperienced fisherman of bass at the age of 67.  I remember your quote ,fishing is easy, catching is what is hard. Again Catt, thank you for doing what you do. It is speeding up the learning process for me. Quote
Super User Catt Posted June 2, 2014 Author Super User Posted June 2, 2014 cajunpapi, the first mistake most anglers make when confronted with Toledo Bend's vastness is they try to fish the whole lake. Remember the old saying "how do you eat an Elephant? One bite at a time!" Take a section near where you are launching & fish it thoroughly until you learn it. Quote
The Commodore Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 Quick question. From out of town and will be fishing toledo tomorrow. I have a Texas fishing license. Will I need a Louisiana license? P.S. sorry if this has been covered here before, huge thread. Quote
Wesley Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 Anyone up for an evening tournament tomorrow? 4pm till 8?? Its a big bass tournament and i have a back seat open. 1 Quote
Many Boy Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 I sure would love to fish that tournament with you Wesley but I gotta be in Lafayette tomorrow night. I hope it will work out another time to fish with you, sure hate I have to pass this time. I'm sure someone will be able to go. Thanks for the offer, don't hesitate to post if you ever need a partner again! Quote
The Commodore Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 DD-22! Just saying Ah crap! Â I didn't see your post till now, Â I have wanted to go into deep cranking for a while now but I get sidetracked. Â But, my brother and I did catch a decent number of fish today. Â Two of them were nice (one was at least over 5.5 lbs.) Â I will have to make a deep cranking setup my #1 priority. Â As I want to learn how to fish more offshore. Quote
Super User Catt Posted June 5, 2014 Author Super User Posted June 5, 2014 June 5, 2014 Y'all should already be offshore That does not necessarily mean the main lake! Most everyone I know is fishing from 7 pm til Three primary setups Texas Rig Jig-n-Craw Deep Crank Not many people are willing to throw deep cranks at night! Quote
The Commodore Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 I just need to get a crankbait setup. It's one thing I'm lacking. The only rod I have for deep divers is a composite glass/graphite rod but it is a spinning reel rod and a little heavy and hard to sling baits. Also do you know of a good chart to use for the lake? My navionics gold that came with my dragonfly doesn't seem to know of toledo bend. Quote
shaneus Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 time for an update! its been almost 2 months since ive been able to go fishing, turnaround is almost over! lake house is finished except texturing the sheetrock (i know cart before the horse) and a couple walls i need to finish the cedar. but were in it and staying when we are up there. the bunkhouse is cleaned out and i took pictures of it so i can start renting it out and kind of advertising. right now its empty with just a microwave and a mini fridge. im building a set of bunk beds in twin/twin and a queen/twin to go in there. then i gotta mount the tv and dvd player on the wall and it'll be ready to rent, price is going to be 50$ ($100 deposit) a night once its all set up, im glad im 1 minute from the six mile public boat ramp, i think i have a good location to rent........pm me for more details. im only renting it out to people on the forums and friends of friends, i will accept paypal so i can take credit cards, or cash is preferred but for those people like me that never carry cash paypal will be an option..... Many Boy Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 If bullet20 can't make it, put me down for Thursday if you're still needing to fill the seat! Quote
Super User Catt Posted June 11, 2014 Author Super User Posted June 11, 2014 Alright y'all I need help A close friend is in need of some bream holes in Housen' or 6-Mile! Quote
Many Boy Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Uuuhh......sorry Catt, I'm not much of a bream fisherman either!! However, when I was up in 944 this spring I was thinking that flooded buck brush sure would make a fine bream spot later on. Also, those shallow pockets around the pipeline at the back of Housen. I would think a fellow could lose a lot of crickets in either one of those areas. Quote
bullet20 Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Hey catt a buddy of mine had been catching alot of crappie on brush pile.Dont know if that helps.LOL Quote
