TxGator the tournament is in Febuary and i don't know how many teams will be allowed but Catt is heading this up. I think the more teams we have the better the fellowship.IMO

Thanks for the tip on the wright mcgill Rick Clunn series 7 ft crank bait rods. I just ordered 2 of them, and their guaranteed for Christmas. Just what I need, more rods lol.

Thanks

Gator

Heck I decided to buy four of them and keep two and give two for christmas.

Thanks for all of the help guys. I realy like theway the Boyd Duckett rod feels and I am sure that is what I will go with and Bearonthewater thanks for the info about which one to get. i like a long rod too for flipping will the Heavy be enough for the grass or should I go with an extra heavy for the big girls on the bend? Thanks for the info on the Crucial rod I have never had one but may look into that one as well. Thats what I like about this site it is full of guys who know what works and will give you true info without all of the salesman hype you get from the store. Thanks

Express Kid,

I actually do own the 7'-6 Xtra Heavy Duckett flipping rod.

It was the last rod I just purchased, but fairly different from the 7'-6" Heavy version.

Haven't had the chance to really utilize it yet (been busy throwing crankbaits).

But,  I can assure you it's as stiff as a jeep axle and will have no problem yanking those big gals out of the spinach on TB.

I'm actually looking forward to my next opportunity to punch some mats with it.

Hey Catt,

I've got one of those 6'6 MH cork handle Crucials too and really love that rod.  Probably my No. 3. (great for crankbaits.....LOL)

I only wish I had bought more when they were available.

If Bass_Fanatic hasn't responded yet, you can find the Powells at ***.com.

Most folks I know buy most of their fishing tackle / supplies / equipment there because they offer a such a wide variety of items you won't find at Bass Pro.

Prices good.

Save on paying taxes.

Usually get free shipping too.

If you haven't visited the site yet, do so. you'll be glad you did.

Good luck.........

Doesn't look like the website came out on my post.

it should read:

Yep, tackle warehouse.com is where you can find Powell rods.  BUT, there is a store in Alabama called The Fish Ranger that sells them for much cheaper.  The Fish Ranger website has been down the last couple months, but their ebay store is up and running.  If you try going to thefishranger.com it will come up with an error, but give you the phone number to the store and you can call and talk to the owner and order.  Thats what I do. Plus the Powell Endurance, which is MSRP is $200 sells for around $130 at the fish ranger.  The closest place that carrier Powell rods around here is Bayou Outdoors in Bossier City if you want to get your hands on one, or if your ever around Pineville give me a holler and you can swing by and see mine if you would like.

Thanks Bear. Maybe we could go fishing soon and you can show me how well it puts bass in the boat Bass_Fanatic. I like a field trial better than seeing it on dry ground. anyway thanks for the number and all of the help.

Hey Express Kid

I don't know if you made your rod purchase yet, but I use Waterloo rods and love them. They are a custom rod made in Victoria , Texas. The owner will make the rod how ever you want it. I don't know what your price range is but they sell for 175 to 225. Jimmy Burns is the owner and he carries a warranty on every rod. My trap rod is 10 years old and haven't had any problems.

Dang I sure thought they would bite, just goes to show us about the time we think we have them figured out they prove we don't!

I just ordered a Denali Kovert flipping rod. I've heard good things about them and will be trying it out in a few weeks. I'll let y'all know how I like it.

Thanks TWellsjr I have never heard of waterloo rods but may check them out. Dam yankee I have all kinds of rods but I realy want to focus on jig fishing and punching this year so I want a light weight and sensitive rod that will give me the extra edge I need in tournament fishing. Especially since I will be competing against some of the guys on here.

You have shared much wisdom, generosity, and just plain good old fashion advice.

Happy Birthday Catt..... And thank you for your wisdom and patience with us. I wouldn't have caught a fish today if not for your advise.

Today:

Windy

Yocum, Mill and Pirates

Water temp 55 to 60

Four fish three on a rattle trap and one on swim bait. All were good keepers with the biggest 3#. I caught all fish before noon and nothing after that. I followed a creek with grass on both sides. Fish were holding on the edge in 15 to 17 fow. I will try again tomorrow if weather permits. Again thanks to everyone that makes this site great.

Uh huh Trap bite!

In another 3 weeks the weather should switch to fronts from the west & then pre-spawn.

Thanks for the birthday wishes ;)
