Super User Catt Posted October 28, 2013 Author Super User Posted October 28, 2013 With Kentucky bass it's never 1-2 it's always a school! We got into em in April back in 6-Mile & boated 35-40 in an 1 1\2 hours. If they weighed 6-7 lbs they would eat the prop off your motor thinking it was a buzzbait! 2 Quote
Dam Yankee Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 I should be out there again next weekend. Will definitely give you a shout when I see you again. I just fish for enjoyment and the challenge. I don't fish tournaments and I do not keep them cause I don't like to eat fish. Quote
Express Kid Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 please do. I am new to the tournament idea but it is what i want to experiance. I joined tha ABA and i think i will join the club that another siteatic is in. not sure what all i want to do but i am trying to learn where to catch the big girls on TB and then move what i have learned to other lakes. I need all the help that I can get and any info I can share I will. Any help anyone wants to give me will be appreciated as well. Thanks for the info about Mill Creek catt I had a blast. If I don't have to work Sat. I will be back. Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 The problem I'm finding is that by fishing Toledo more I'm not able to transfer what I learn to other lakes. All other area lakes are 5ft. Deep or less lol Quote
Express Kid Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 Good point Bass_Fanatic. I guess I will have to learn more about fish habit than habitat. I have been doing alot of studying on what bass are doing in all seasons so that I will be able to locate them in the differant lakes. Quote
RNG521VX Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 Don't mean to get off topic but both of my HDS 8's went bad on me... anyone know if a place that can repair them for a reasonable price other than Lowrance. Got caught in a storm on The Bend and they haven't worked since. Highly disappointed in Lowrance. From what I read this seems to be an ongoing problem for them. Please HELP! Quote

Flippman Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 With all this rain and the temperatures falling, do you guys think the fishing will get better or worse? Planning a trip Tuesday through Thursday next week, dont know if im wasting my time or should i go for it...any ideas are welcome. Quote
Super User Catt Posted October 31, 2013 Author Super User Posted October 31, 2013 If I were going next week I would fish the main lake or maybe the mouth of feeder creeks. Quote
Flippman Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 Thanks Catt, me and an old friend will be going. He is a T-rig only type of guy, so sounds like a good starting point. Quote
Express Kid Posted November 1, 2013 Posted November 1, 2013 I am planning on fishing Saturday but they are calling for a 13 mph north wind. Can anybody recommend the best place to fish in this kind of wind? Housen or mill creek? Or is there a better place? Quote
Super User Catt Posted November 1, 2013 Author Super User Posted November 1, 2013 Express Kid Pick one Ya either gonna fight the wind on the main lake or get in a major creek arm. 13 mph don't sound bad but what are the gust? I hate wind, it makes staying on structure difficult, it makes feeling bites difficult, it makes running difficult...I don't like difficult! Yesterday's front/storm should be stone cold reminder of what season we're in. Wind, rain, lighting, cold; lets be prepared! If the wind gust aren't bad I'd fish the main lake. Deep water bass are effected less by fronts. If the main lake is a nogo then you simply pick a major creek arm. I would conserate on the mouth & the front third. 1 Quote
shaneus Posted November 1, 2013 Posted November 1, 2013 My dad is up there right now he said you can fish the current with all the run off from the rain at the six mile bridge.......lol Quote
Express Kid Posted November 1, 2013 Posted November 1, 2013 Thanks Catt You put it into perspective. The glassy days of summer are over and if we are gonna fish this time of year it is gonna be windy and cold. I think i will go back to mill creek in the morning and try the grass on the main lake and the old railroad that runs along that bank. i found how the ledge fall off from the grass and drops and then drops again. I think the fish will be on the first drop if i can find what is holding them. Catt, should the bass be holding tight to structure post cold front or suspended? Or does the cooler water tell them cold weather coming and they need to feed up for winter?  I think the faster crank bait and spinner bait bite should be on and the jig bite later in the day when the sun is up. Now when you say main lake what are you talking about? humps, ridges and deep structure? what is considered good water for this time of year? 20' or maybe 30' i just dont know. lack of experiance tells me to move shallower because as the water cools the thermocline is disapaiting and the fish move all over the lake. Plus i dont know any spots in deep water. I guess that would be the key if anyone is catching fish now in deep water how deep are they? Ok sorry for the long post and so many questions I am trying to be the best I can be and you guys are the Pros so I do value any info you can give me. Dam yankee if you are at mill creek tomorrow give me a shout. Quote
Super User Catt Posted November 1, 2013 Author Super User Posted November 1, 2013 shaneus, I heard the lake came up 1' over night! Express, the main lake is anything outside of major creek coves. The way I look at the main like is look the Sabine river & where major creeks intetsect. Next look for humps, ridges, under water points, ect. Next look for road beds, railroads, or pipelines. All three can be found on a map at home! Once on the water & over the structure look for grass/wood with graph. Quote

Express Kid Posted November 1, 2013 Posted November 1, 2013 On the Acme Mapper it shows the 150 line and then another line out from it. what is the depth of the line out past the 150? Quote
Super User Catt Posted November 1, 2013 Author Super User Posted November 1, 2013 Magic Depth! On The Big Pond it is 15' plus or minus 3'!!! Why 15'? All vegetation stops growing at certain depths, there are 3 main types of vegetation on Toledo. Hydrilla, Milfoil, & Coontail are those 3 & they stop growing somewhere around 15'. If I'm fishing the main lake I'm looking for that depth as a starting point. If I'm fishing Housen', 6-Mile, Pirates, or where ever I'm looking for that depth as a starting point. If I'm fishing a secondary creek like Hurricane I'm looking for that depth as a starting point. Quote
Express Kid Posted November 1, 2013 Posted November 1, 2013 thanks Catt. i know you keep telling me that and i hope now i fanaly understand it. Quote
