Express Kid Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 Yeah tough day both days I caught 12 friday with two keepers a total weight of just over 5 pounds Saturday windy and cold I launched at six mile and fished the grass and points caught 5 fish one keeper 2.51 lbs. Best fish came on a chugbug and the rest were on crank baits and rattle traps. No bite on jig or texas rig worm. Ihope the fish will start to get in the fall pattern soon. Has anyone tried a spinner bait? I fished one a short time Saturday but no bite. shouldn't they be on spinnerbaits now? Does any one know how much weight won the ABA tournament Sat. At the Military rec? Quote

henrylewis Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 My school just started a bass team. I was told about this site by phil dixon. I am wanting to learn about bass fishing Quote
Dam Yankee Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Strangely enough I did well when I went Saturday. Had one 7 and a couple 4's. It seemed like a spinnerbait would be on but, it wasn't. I tried almost everything until I thought of Catt always talking about Tx. rig. I very rarely use it cause we all get caught up in our habits. I am sold on the tx. rig. Thanks for the tip Catt! I noticed a lot of fish and bait balls on points but, couldn't get em to hit anything. Eveything I caught was in grass or on the edge of the grass line. look for areas near the edge of the grass line that are different. Quote
Express Kid Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Thanks I am going this weekend and want to spend some time flipping a jig. I have never had any success at it but I know if I am going to get big fish I need to learn it. Any advice on color or size or even depth of water? I thought of going to indian mounds and trying there. Any advice would be great. I tried one sat. But nothing and not sure what to do. I hear it is a big fish bate on the Bend. Quote
Express Kid Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Catt as the water cools in the fall will all fish move shallow or will the larger fish stay on the grass edges? I know what you say about 15+ or- 3 but my question refers mostly to large fish over 5 pounds. Quote
Express Kid Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Welcome henrylewis that is what we are all on here for to learn and to help others with what we have learned. If I can help let me know. I have been fishing the bend for over 25 years but I still have to ask for help. These guys will help with anything so don't be afraid to ask. Good luck out there. Quote
Super User Catt Posted October 21, 2013 Author Super User Posted October 21, 2013 Once again 15' of water +/- 3' will put you on the outside grass line. This is where I start! Toledo Bend bass love plastic so I feed them plastic! I do how ever keep a Texas rig & Jig-N-Craw tied on 24\7\365 & throw both on each piece of structure I fish. I will throw a spinner bait, Trap, crank, or buzz bait for 45-1 1\2 hour if I don't get bit the rod goes away into the rod box. Except for pre-spawn when I try the spinner bait or Trap through out the day. When I fish structure I anchor on top of the structure so I'm fishing uphill which keeps my lure in contact with the bottom the entire cast. That's Catt Fishing! 1 Quote
bcody Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Well, we didn't have a great weekend, but it definitely could have been worse. Â On Friday, we ended up with 14 fish with 8 keepers. Caught them early/late on popper/spinner bait/square bill. We were in Palo Gaucho the entire time. All fish were on the edges of grass in 4-6 ft. Water temps were 74-75 everywhere we went. Didn't have a ton of luck in the afternoon, even after backing out and fishing the edges with T-Rig's. Â Saturday was cold, and we were lucky to catch 8 fish with 4 keepers early. They were all caught on popper/spinner bait. After 9 am, we did not have a fish for the rest of the day, and It wasn't because we weren't trying. Once the front was out, it was done. That's what you get when you travel 4 hours to fish, you fish no matter what. Ha. Â Quote
Super User Catt Posted October 21, 2013 Author Super User Posted October 21, 2013 Nice bcody As we move up the lake towards Palo Goucho, Carrice, & north of the bridge thing change. Bass become less grass orientated & more "wood" orientated. The available grass is shallower with less Hydrilla, Milfoil, & Coontail. On the Louisiana side we find the 1215 area, the road cuts through a series of islands & flooded brush. The East-West 15 boat lane also runs through this area. The old roadbed, several deep creeks, humps, flooded timber, and grass beds provide outstanding cover and hunting territory. The Deer Antler Tree and the Christmas Tree areas in 1215 are two outstanding areas Crankbait & Plastics Quote
mguidroz Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Fishing Report Friday the 18th 4pm to 11pm Water temp 75-76 degrees Wind out of the east.  I fished a grassline in ~ 12 to 15 FOW.  - One fish on shad color CB - Three fish on topwater biggest 5lbs. - Seven fish on TR 10" greenpumpkin worms w/ 1/4oz weight all caught after dark.  The fish were holding on grassline and not willing to chase the bait for from it. I paralleled grassline with the lures mentioned above using a stop and go with CB, fish caught on topwater plug was stopped, BONE/ORANGE belly, then bam I never had a strike while it was moving and TR worked slow, slower. It was a good trip being I haven't been on the lake in a month or so. Catt keep up the great work and look forward to crossing paths one day.... Quote

Erik-son Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Hello everybody. I stumbled across this thread the other day and thought it would be a good place to ask a couple questions. I'll be headed to TB next week sometime with my wife and 4 kids ages 9-12. We were planning on staying at one of the two state parks. I have a 17' bass tracker with no electronics. My question is which park (or anywhere else) would you guys recommend? I want to have the best opportunity for the kids to catch a few bass with their daddy. Being I don't have any electronics, bank beating/grass line beating is my only real option. I have only been twice, neither trip being very successful. So which state park would you recommend for my situation? Any hints that might steer me right so I can put these kids(and myself...) on so fish? Thanks in advance everybody. God bless Quote
Super User Catt Posted October 21, 2013 Author Super User Posted October 21, 2013 bcody & Erick-son. Hook-N-Line map & N. Toledo Bend Louisiana State Park! Quote
Erik-son Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Thanks Mr. Catt I plan on picking up a good map before we go. Hopefully there are some good areas a I can locate visually. Quote
Super User Catt Posted October 21, 2013 Author Super User Posted October 21, 2013 Read what I wrote about 1215 & look at map Quote
Erik-son Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Now thinking about staying at San Miguel. Any thoughts? Want the family to enjoy themselves when not fishing. If nothing else, it's closer to spot I've been eyeballing on google earth... Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 North Toledo Bend State Park is at the mouth of San Miguel and is a very nice park.  If you're willing to spend some money, take a look at Wildwood Resort.  Its on San Miguel too, but it is an  awesome facility!  Kids would love it.  They have a pond the kids can fish in with ducks, geese, swans, peacocks, ect. roaming around.  The cabins are very nice too!  Plus, there is good fishing on the lake close by. Erik-son Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 Thanks for the info ***atic. We may make a trip to wildwood in the future, but I believe we will stay at north TB state park this time. I believe it will be a easy boat ride to several different places I want to fish. Been looking at some spots that look good on map. Just need to see what they are like in person. Thanks again guys Quote
SquiggyFreud Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 All,  If I may...a couple of questions about the lake(hard to find up to date info)...I have not been out there in 25+ years. I dont remember worrying about stumps and whatnot way back then, we would hop in my buddys boat, throw the rope in the water and kneeboard all day long.  we will be on the South end of lake...  Best place for Ethanol free gas on the water? Or should I take my gas cans with me and stop on the way in? Best place for ice, odds and ends, etc? Best place for food on the day I dont want to eat camp fire hot dogs? Is the area still dry? Liquor wise? Bass haven resort is right next to the park, I have read some bad reviews is it really that bad? Best place to water ski/play in the water? I think we used to go up near Pirates cove. If my wife and I just want to take a cruise...anything on the lake that is a must see?  I will probably ask these same questions at the park once we check in, but always good to have more than one opinion.  Thanks all, this is a great thread!! Express Kid Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 I always fill up before I get to the lake so im not sure about gas. there is a store on the way to Anacoco on hwy.392 and hwy. 111. you can get Ice and tackle and such there. Pirates cove has a restaurant that serves Breakfast lunch and dinner. the phone number is (318)565-4467 and they will prepair to go orders. I don't know anything about the liquor or the Bass Haven resort except that it looks really old. Not sure about playing in the water or skiing but you can go down to the dam and look around. as far as site seeing the Canadian Geese are down all over the lake and i have been seeing several Bald Eagles around Pirates Cove and Kites Landing quite often.  Well I hope this helps. 1 Quote
