The local stores on both sides of the lake really don't like me because other than trips to a caf é I don't buy much from them. Buy it before you get to the lake Gator, asking questions is what this tread is all about! With all the new technology most have forgotten plain ole depth finders, find some one experienced in reading depth finders & ask to be tutored. 1 Quote

Shanon Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 Welcome to Spring!! It's time for my krewe of bass pirates from Ascension Parish to attack the Lake. We'll be arriving Thursday am for a 10 day guys trip. For all of you that put away you jackets and other winter gear - I'm sorry. Last year at this time we made it snow on the lake. We stay in the Esto Cove on La side. Most of our normal holes are high and dry right now but we'll still hit the normal areas (Negreet, Indian Mounds, Pirates, etc) till we figure them out. Either the fishing has slowed down or people are holding back on their reports. A few weeks back I was getting daily great reports but not much lately. I saw that the Texas Oilmans' got cancelled http://www.tbocbass.com/Toledo_Bend_Oilmans_Classic/Special_Announcment.html meaning less pressure, but I'm sure the weekend anglers are still enjoying this beautiful weather. Can someone give us a current pattern that they are using to catch fish? We'll probably start topwater early - switching to deeper baits mid day and ending back up on top in the evening. Quote

Over 10,000lbs of bass caught / released. 630 teams competing. 1st place team had 44lbs for two days. Garry McCollum/Blaine Abshire (iClass/furflys) Finished 22nd with 34.02lbs for two days. Not a bad check! Sorry, no info on where or what (more tourneys), but will say the water was Uber Clear and temps in the high 60's. Blaine made me proud by "fishing outside the box" and doing something no one else was doing. If he hadn't we wouldn't have come close to finishing where we did! Great job Blaine! fishingcajun Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 Congrat's Catt on your good finish. Unfortunatley I was stuck at work, my normal partner finished 11 the second day and 30ish overall. Shanon, I watched three days of the FLW Everstart series weigh in this weekend on Toledo Bend. Nine of the top ten boaters claimed they were sight fishing for the most part. Had to back off of the beds due to so much traffic this past weekend. Varity of plastics were used to catch them. Of course they don't always tell the truth, but most of the co-anglers confirmed this as well. I had two buddys fishing this past weekend. Top bait was a Zoom fluke, watermelon colors dipped the tail. Most of the time they fished it with a split shot a foot up the line. But did mention they had to go to a weighted hook as well. Note that the 1st place co-angler mentioned he fished this pattern all three days. One of the top ten pro's said he caught most of his fish on a Smithwick Golden Rouge. My advice would be to search the banks well ahead of the boat with the Rouge, if you get bit, usally the male, then I would proceed with caution and stealth and look for female !! Cody Bird FLW Pro said he caught four of his five limit the final day off of one stump !! FYI- The FLW tournament weigh in was live streamed on the internet. I paid close attention to what was mentioned, I wil***ishing a tournament this weekend on TB. Hope this helps some ! Quote

My favorite bait to throw at the Bend is the gold rogue. I can't wait till Thursday - We have very spotty internet service while at the cabin we rent - but If I get a signal I'll try and send reports to you guys. I also plan on catching some with a new topwater frog I just purchased (Kopper's Live Target). This bait looks great. If I was a bass I wouldn't make to 3 pounds.... Again sorry about the miss post. Here's our plan: [*]Don't hit any stump unless trolling. [*]Start the day with topwaters next to bank & grass (Rogues, frogs, flukes,) [*]Step back with Senko's during the day along with weighted flukes, brushhogs [*]Back to topwater later in the evening [*]Repeat for 9 days of fishing 10 days - 8 good friends - hopefully throw back more than we keep. ealex Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 Catt is correct 2-8 ' is deadly now my son and I had a blast this past weekend no really big fish we had 5 fish over 4lbs and could not keep count of the fish 14" to 3lbs we caught just a awesome weekend to spend with my little buddy he is just 4 years old so you know he had a great time. lol Quote

Yelp they are called paper maps Many anglers start at the bank & work deeper; I start at the river/creek bed & work shallower. I think it's time for a little more map study! 1 Quote

Skeet22 Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 A few people don’t believe me but get off the bank & find grass Fished Lobi this past weekend. Finished 61st out of 6oo and something. Top water is on early closer to bank around points, fished 3 to 5ft submerged grass way off the bank with wacky rigs and split shot rigs with french fry worms. Later in the day hit points way off the bank in the 8-10ft zone with carolina rigs. My biggest fish caught was 6 lbs and my partner caught a 7 in pirates cove on a carolina rig. They were hitting pop r's and chug bugs pretty good at all times of the day. All in all a good weekend on the water. The key was fishing very slow and being very patient. With the high pressure and slow bite it is very easy to fish 30 minutes or so without a bite but you have to just fish hard and the bites will come. You can run around all day and miss the bite everywhere and not catch a fish. The bite was very spread out and came in spurts. We managed 14 lbs a day which put us in the money. Also caught some good fish on a skinny dipper swimbait slow rolled through the grass. Slow was key for everything we fished to get bit. 1 Quote

Normally right after the spawn, the shad spawn starts and they will be moving up into 4-8 ft. with grass to spawn. Ripping traps can be very effective as will wacky wormin and lightly weighted T-Rigs and C-Rigs. Also, dont forget to throw a frog over mats and chug bugs over points early. 1 Quote
