Super User Catt Posted December 29, 2010 Author Super User Posted December 29, 2010 Catt lets talk about this low water and if it continues on into the spawn. Ok let's do Will it concentrate the fish more? Absolutely not Will they just spawn deeper? The bass will spawn at the same depth just different areas We could go into different scenarios of the effects of low water on the spawn but in my 39 years on the Bend the lake level will be back to normal by the spawn. On December 29th 05 the lake level was at 162.89 & by the spawn the level was back up to 170 & the bass were so far back in the buck brush you could forget trying to fish em. Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted December 29, 2010 Super User Posted December 29, 2010 Leaving shortly for indian mounds. will give a report when i return. Quote
TBendBassin Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 that makes sense, ive been taking advantage of this low water for the past several months. Alot of times i have been leaving the ranger on the trailer and taking my brothers duck hunting boat out and getting way back in some places and then walking the rest of the way. I find it pretty awesome going to several places where i have caught fish and seeing what the fish where holding on to and why. I have found so many humps, ridges, and depressions in the last couple of months its awesome.. i have like 300 pictures saved on my camera i hope everyone else is taking advantage of this opportunity. TBendBassin Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 looking forward to the report jack Quote

Super User Catt Posted December 30, 2010 Author Super User Posted December 30, 2010 Yea Jack we got hammered hard later yesterday afternoon up until 8-8:30 From now until April y'all better have an extra set of warm clothes & a quality rain suit. These pictures are from '05 Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted December 30, 2010 Super User Posted December 30, 2010 We did to Catt. Got over 5" at my house. I left out thinking I would run out of most of it. Never did and i turned it around just above Beaumont. Had two goretex rain suits with me, but don't think the dual bildge pumps would have stood a chance in that weather we had. I was just not that mad at them. Quote
Super User Catt Posted December 30, 2010 Author Super User Posted December 30, 2010 Lake Charles regional airport south of the house received 3.6 while Chennault International Airport received 0.06. Cameron to New Iberia & south received 5-6 with winds of 50-55 mph. I've received e-mails & pms asking if this was going to help the lake level, please understand that Hemphill only received 0.03. Direct rain fall on the lake itself does little to raise the lake level. Unless the rain is on a line from the Dallas/Fort Worth area across to Shreveport area the rain will have little influence on the lake level. Run off is key not direct rain fall Quote
Ranger 251 Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 Yep, plenty of wind and rain around here Catt, it was really bad. Quote
capierrottie2 Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 Fishing Report, Friday Dec 31, 2010 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM Indian Mounds First we tried C-rig in 20 to 30 feet of water with no luck. We noticed the furthur we went back into the creeks the water got warmer. We ended up catching 2 dinks in 3-5 feet of water in the back of Indian Mounds on blue and chrome rattle traps, and shallow diving crank baits. Jessie Lowe We moved on over to Jessie Low and C-Rig in 10- 20 feet of water with no luck and then moved into the back of the creek in that area and picked up 9 fish 2 keepers around stumps in 3-6ft of water around stumps boat houses on shallow diving 100- Series Bandit crankbaits. We then moved to the Louisiana side around the Island at Big Bass and caught 2 keepers on the same pattern in 3-6 ft of water. I tried spooning in 25 feet of water with no luck also. Most fish were caught in 56 degree water. We didnt catch any big fish, but the fishing was fun. Quote

FROG11 Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 Yea, I figured with Harold Allen in 1st place, they had probably caught their fish on something slow..jig or worm The 2nd place guys apparently had some custom painted traps..I wonder what color they were using.... Quote
