107 heat index is painfully hot. I caught a 14” Kentucky, 2 dink kentuckies, on a drop off that goes from 8-35’ Carolina rigged trick worm. Had a few thump my dropshot, but no hook ups. After that big full moon and getting on the water at 730, my expectations weren’t to high. I may have to bite the bullet and try some night fishing.

@RonnieF Temperature here at 4:30 was 99° in the shade with zero wind.

These temperatures are one reason I started night fishing. Might not catch anymore but definitely more comfortable.

I don't change anything at night, I still do a lot of graphing deep or probing shallow cover.

I fish the same lures & techniques as I would during daylight.

So I walked out to the waters edge this evening. Right before the evening rain storm hit.

Black body green pumpkin legged frog. Made to imitate a ribbet frog but it floats when you stop it.

First 3 cast and 3 hook ups with 10 inch fish. Nice and healthy looking fish too fat stomach's been eating good.

Best I can do for a report fellas.

Hey guys,
I am the boat captain for a High School team.... fishing the big lake this weekend.
Using Cypress Bend landing.
Most will be fishing the humps south of the landing. (negreet humps?).
The other majority will be beating the banks and docks.
Aside from a spot in Palo Gaucho we are looking for a direction to go to 'get away' from the crowds.
Anyone have a good reason to venture north or south of where we are?
Is there any grass close enough for us to run to?

thanks

Edited to add: We heard there was a little grass down south. Any intel on the whereabouts of that would help.
I don't want to run way down there if that is bad intel.

@PlanoSooner How y'all are?

Josh (Bass_Fanatic) Sikes post above is about as real time as it gets. Look him up on Facebook under Bent Rods Guide Service.

@A5BLASTER Lives up north & he's reports are also real time.

As for Old Catt, I got a good friend's son fishing the Sulphur High School Team, so I got nothing.

I didnt see Josh's post until i refreshed. That is good stuff.
As for A5.... I wanted to to stay south unless I heard something spectacular up there. We fish our jr club up there when we can, so i pay attention to him for sure.
.
As for your sulphur team. Good luck to them.
And thanks for the reply

Know how you feel ?

We went through Laura, Delta, a freeze, & historic flooding. 26 days without electricity for Laura!

There's grass in the back of Housen, some over in 944, & some in 6-Mile.

I'm in Gramercy, laplace, sorrell area for the next few weeks.

Changed jobs, doing water/microbial remediation now. It so badcdown here, we are basically gutting every house and when the electricity comes back on we will go back through them and spray/scrub to kill the microbes and so the house can be remodeled inside and made livable again.

Up here for the last 10 days or so.  COVID quarantine.  Been working so I haven’t been able to fish much but I have been out every evening. I’ve caught some good fish on XD6 and a War Eagle spoon. Spoon has been really good at attracting bites. Long casts along ridges and stroking it back to the boat. You will get hung up and fish will throw the bait but it does get bit (especially when the sun is out).  I’ve been throwing the larger size (7/8) but the smaller one (1/2) might be even better.   Fun fishing too, because it will attract all species. I’ve found a lot of bar fish around the schools of larger blacks. If you throw the crank bait, I’d recommend shad or bar fish colors. I’m fishing near 6 mile. Water is very clear. Good luck.

We fished Saturday in a 154 boat High School tournament out of Cypress Bend.
Plus 18 Jr. Bassmaster anglers who fish along side of us.
.
I don't think the winner had more than 15#
And 15th was around 9#

That cool front screwed up the offshore fishing. And a lot of the best bags were caught near bream beds. I assume they were back in creeks.
.
We got on some fish late by flipping docks in lanan and should have done that all day. We could have had a top 15 doing that.
But we were swinging for the fences.... Rookie mistakes.
Thanks to those who have taken the time to help us.
Hope to give more feedback when we fish here again.

Congratulations!

Our boys missed 15th by less than 1/4# Dropshoting boat docks.

See y'all next round ?

Guys, it’s happening!  The last few trips has been fantastic!  The fish are pushing shad into main lake drains and are feeding heavy.  From now until mid December the bite should be great!

Thats good to hear, I may be staying at WildWood mid October.  Looking forward to catching fish that a bit more shallow, I tend to really suck fishing offshore.  Last two times I went up there, I made myself try it just to learn, and I caught a few, but it would be nice to be able to go up shallow this time and just wack em.  Fingers crossed.

Yep depending on how the weather lays out.

The second weekend of October is normally the start of a week longs top water beat down in the 5 to 9 foot range in the creek mouths.

They school up hard and tight and you can wear the paint off of baits on a school.

To bad I will be busy deer hunting lol.

Im looking to either go the weekend of Oct 17, or the weekend of Oct 30th.  Which time do u think would have the most fish up shallow?  I'd imagine if we have a warm early october it will slow them down a bit.  Whats your professional opinion?

Well not a professional but my opinion is I would want the weather to stay stable.

No heavy rains and no strong cool/cold fronts. Water level to say constant or with a very slow and steady out flow current will keep them the most active.

On san Miguel look for cloudy days to extend the early morning bite till around 9 or 10 o'clock and then the school action to pick back up around the 3:40 time period and last till dark as long as the schools are big enough and they have plenty of bait too feed on.

Sounds good.  Has any grass popped up on San Miguel recently?  I was last out there in summer of 20, and there wasn't much grass to be found.

Bummer. Well maybe this will be the trip where I finally make @Catt proud by successfully structure fishing. LOL

Me an'a friend were there Tues - Thurs.

Spent the first three hours Tuesday morning under the marina dock while the heavens opened up. When it broke from raining put the boat back on the trailer and headed to Big Bass Marina, where we're staying. Got the truck unloaded, the weather cleared, put the boat back on the water. Idled a bit scanning the roadbed and artificial fish structure out in front of BBM the went to take off. Just before the boat broke over the engine sneezed(sorta) then died. Would crank, wouldn't budge. Put the trolling motor down and went fishing.

Ended up being the lower unit locked up. Prop shaft seal is broken n' pushed out so will be filing a claim this morning later.

We stayed all three days. Spent one day at the Army ramp(Wed.) and two in the Big Bass Marina cove. We caught a fair number of fish each day working dock. One day pitching One Kockers under/around docks was the ticket the next day it was pitching plastic around docks. Our best 5 fish day was maybe ~15#s. Did manage a 6.75#er on a c'rig at the mouth of Big Bass Marina cove near the island on the main lake side in about 13' FOW.

Fisher of Men two day regional on Toledo took 24+ to win. Pretty much reflects what I encountered last week.

The fishing got really good with the cooler weather a couple weeks ago but man has it gotten tough since warming back up.  The offshore bite is very hit and miss and it’s hard to catch much quality right now.  We did move shallow in the rain on Friday and caught a few 3-4lb fish on a squarebill and spook.  The dock bite is decent when the sun is out too, but we need a cold front bad!

All you mentioned plus traps/sq. bill around shore line mud lines. Better docks had deep(er) water nearby but it wasn't an absolute requirement.
