Can’t wait  Depending on weather February should see big gals moving up.  Everyone waits for em to move up in late February to early March, the bass already in the creeks don't have far to go & are there first. Bass_Fanatic Posted December 14, 2020 Posted December 14, 2020 The big girls should be showing up soon.  We caught 56 Friday on Arigs and a wing ding in 25-31’.  With all the fresh water and cool temps I would imagine we are moving out of the fall and into the winter pattern now.  1 Quote
Super User Catt Posted December 15, 2020 Author Super User Posted December 15, 2020 Ok I was asked to explain a little more ? Â During pre-spawn many anglers believe the bass move up into the creeks to feed & eventually spawn. And they are correct but think about this, there are bass already in the creeks, they live there year round. Â While y'all are waiting on the bass to move into the creeks, the bass that live there move first! 2 Quote

Agreed.  There is a point in the back of a cove near my house. Come spawn the water will be up and they will be in the 2 to 3 foot area in the brush.  But right now they are in the 5 to 7 foot depth at the tip of the point, water depth due to the winter water level. Come spawn that will be 10 to 12 foot.  Distance they will travel between now and spawn is about 20 yards.  And they never leave that point, they are there 365 days a year.  I seen them on the graph this morning when I went pasted after shooting some ducks. 1 Quote
Super User Catt Posted December 15, 2020 Author Super User Posted December 15, 2020 @A5BLASTERÂ The biggest misconception I've heard is ya can't fish the same places year after year. Â The worst I've gotten beaten up online was after I stated that I'm fishing structure I found back in the 70s & 80s. Â Ken Smith's videos with Albert Collins & Glen Freeman verified what I've been saying. Â Todd Driscoll's tracking is showing the bass don't move that far. Â You still gotta fine where they're located on the structure depending on season, weather patterns, & water conditions. 3 Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted December 24, 2020 Posted December 24, 2020 Was back on Toledo this week after being on Rayburn last week. Â We caught 33 and 47 Monday and Tuesday. Â Still fishing deep schools with Arigs, wing dings, spoons, and drop shots. 1 Quote
operationgrass Posted December 31, 2020 Posted December 31, 2020 Nice to see you’re catching them.  I’ve been busy at the power plant lake down the road. It’s been fun catching prespawn fish just moving up. 1 Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted December 31, 2020 Posted December 31, 2020 Our numbers went down this week, as expected as we move into the winter months, but our size increased greatly!  We found a school of probably 50 fish and the majority were over 4lbs!  The only problem was that there was so much timber down there and they would only hit an Arig.  We caught 3 big ones, broke off 2 big ones, and got hung up about 25 times lol. We had to keep getting on top of them to untangle our baits and spooked a lot of the fish.  I really think if we can fish it hard and with a little luck there is a 30lb bag sitting on it.  They are on a channel swing in 22’ around tons of timber.  Hopefully they stay put. 3 Quote
operationgrass Posted January 1, 2021 Posted January 1, 2021 Why do you think the size increases as you move into the winter months? 1 Quote

It happens every year.  The later into the winter we get, the bigger our average fish gets.  I think a lot of the big females have been shad/bait oriented suspended in the creeks and river since post spawn and in January they begin to move into prespawn areas in catchable water.  This time of year the big fish begin to group up. That’s why you see January and February tournaments usually take the heaviest weight of the year to win. 2 Quote
Super User Catt Posted January 1, 2021 Author Super User Posted January 1, 2021 @operationgrass & @Bass_Fanatic I've been saying for years pre-spawn starts long before many anglers believe.  You will hear, the bass move up into the creeks.  My question is where does the resident population that's already in the creeks move to?  Quote

operationgrass Posted January 2, 2021 Posted January 2, 2021 @Catt funny you say that bc that power plant lake I fish everyone says prespawn starts roughly around Christmas but in reality it starts I believe with the first cold fronts in October/November. So that means on a normal lake it would start Decemberish  @Bass_Fanaticthats a good take on it. Hopefully soon with that project they’re working on it will tell us more about the seasonal transitions. 1 Quote

Yur'a humminbird guy - right? Got your eye on the Mega Live that's supposed to roll out in march? I have an Lowrance ActiveTarget on order that's "supposed" to be here in about a week. 1 Quote

Yes I’m a humminbird guy.  I’m waiting to see what mega live looks like before deciding what to do.  We have livescope on all of our pontoon for crappie fishing, but I’d like to try out the mega live on my bass boat if it’s as good as thought to be. 3 Quote
Dougw Posted January 5, 2021 Posted January 5, 2021 Yeah, I got the LiveSight, not installed yet, due to the 40 degree cone angle. Also ordered the ActiveTarget transducer, which delivery has slipped from 1/4/21 to 1/20/21. One of the things I find interesting about the live sonar technology is the number of folks commenting on being able to see stuff that side scan did not reveal 1 Quote
Super User Catt Posted January 10, 2021 Author Super User Posted January 10, 2021 Sure awfully quiet round here ? Quote
LovestoFish Posted January 10, 2021 Posted January 10, 2021 Yep. I imagine that will change by the end of the month 1 Quote

Bass_Fanatic Posted January 11, 2021 Posted January 11, 2021 The fishing has been pretty tough the past week.  We are spending well over half the day idling looking for fish before we even make a cast.  Then once we find them, they aren’t exactly jumping in the boat.  You have to work hard to get bites.  The arig and spoon are still our two biggest producers.  Best advice I can give right now is to stay near creeks and if your not seeing fish, go deeper.  We caught the. In 50’ Saturday. 1 Quote
