We’ve been at it every week. Caught about 70 one day last week and 50 another day. Today, the wind blew and we were stuck in housen. Couldn’t run around to get to all my fish,  but we still managed to boat 47. The lake is fishing really good. If we would have had shiners I bet we could have caught 500 white perch also. Every brush pile was LOADED today

We are planning to spend the weekend (starting 5/24) fishing Toledo Bend.  We will be staying near Cyprus Bend State Park.

The last time we were there, we did pretty well around the Housen Bay area.  I think we will explore Lowes Creek and the Negreet Pass area.  Any tips/advice would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you in advance.

We fished Wednesday, Thursday and part of Friday. We had roughly 80 keepers but only 20 were kept. We threw back a number of fish that had bloody looking rashes on their bodies. This is the first time we have fished this late in the year so we didn't know if this something that usually happens as the water warms up or not. I also saw the airboat sitting on the trailer spraying the water around the Six Mile Creek launch yesterday afternoon.

We caught 42 yesterday and 90 today. Had 70 fish before 9 am. The lake is fishing great if you spend a little time idling looking for big schools.  We caught fish on jigs, spoons, crigs, hair jigs, but all the big fish came on a crankbait.  Had over 23lbs today I'm 15-20'.

I was at 6 mile yesterday concentrating on outside creek bend in 18 to 20 foot.  Not a thing.  Are you seeing most fish on brush piles only?

Not yet. These have all been on ledges. They should be moving into brushpiels soon though.

We had a great weekend, she out-fished me two of the three days on the lake.  We didn't catch the big one or do very well numbers wise but we still enjoyed our time together--as always.

What structure is your most productive for off shore summer.

For me it would be a hump or ridge next too a channel swing.

But haven't fished any yet this year due too the unseasonably high winds we seem too be having. My boat isn't setup for fishing such things in much wind.

Early morning they will be on top of ledges. Once it gets hot, a lot of fish suspend chasing bait, but your bigger fish will relate to brush.  I like to fish brushpiles in 18-25’ next to creek swings.

Just got back from the Bend.  Fished out of pirate's cove Saturday morning and managed to catch about 50 fish or so.  All small fish but it was fun.  The launch was a zoo with all the camp lizards riding around in their golf carts partying for the holiday.  Sunday we stayed more mid lake and caught about 30 11:00 before heading in.  All fish caught between 15-25 FOW on c-rig, dropshot and 6XD.  Good times.  Headed back this coming weekend.  Here is a pic I snapped while out there.

The smallest one they make. Think it's size 4 double take hook made by Stanley.

I use the hooks that don't have the weights on them.

RonnieS:  That is what they look like when you sitting still and they are right below you.  They are more like horizontal lines as opposed to dots.  Here is a pic of what they look like when you are moving over them.

I was back at the bend this past weekend.  I got up there around 10:00 Friday morning and fished until the weather blew us off around 4:00ish.  I am normally scared to death of lightning, so if I see it I run.  I did not see any but the line would float in the air and my rod shocked me multiple times.  It was then that I decided it was time to go.  Anyway, we caught around 60 on Friday in the mid-lake area between 18-22 FOW.  We caught them on dropshot, C-rig and crankbaits.  The biggest was around 5.5lbs pictured below.  Saturday we fished the same areas except we ran down to the indian mounds as well.  Same story as we caught around 50 or so with the biggest being 3.10lbs. Sunday we fished from sunrise to 11:30 and caught around 25.  We got on a good crankbait bite around 10:30 catching several solid 2.5 lb. fish.  All in all it was a good time with my brother.  We caught lots of fish and lots of keepers.  The one thing I did noticed is a lot of the fish look beat up with sores on their body.  Is this from the spawn or is this some kind of illness?

I'm wondering the same thing now. I have caught plenty with the sour's and figured it was from spawning.

But me and dad have caught 7 bass in the last week that had those spots and when we went too clean them later in the day. The back have of the fish. The meat had turned black. Fish was still alive when we went to clean them.

We tossed them and let the turtles have the ones that looked like that.

Those bass had sores so bad it had eaten down into the meat and made a knot in the meat.

Haven't ever seen it like this before.

What’s the secret to keep a 3/4 oz football jig with a trailer from catching on everything while dragging like a Carolina rig in 20 to 25 feet of water
