Thank you for your information Catt, I heard that the bite is always hot on Rat-L-Traps and pretty much always craw colors. And I was going out to buy some lures for my trip the last weekend of the month and i was wondering what would produce best and maybe even some spots to try out. I've heard and read that the bite is starting to get good on Rat-L-Traps, jigs, and baits like that on main lake points. Quote
Super User Catt Posted January 18, 2018 Author Super User Posted January 18, 2018 Main lake structure &Â major creek arms. Â Bigger fish are coming on Jigs & Texas Rigs in 12-18' near ledges or ridges. Â Rat-L-Traps on main lake points & points inside major creek arms. Quote

getting there Posted January 21, 2018 Posted January 21, 2018 (unofficial) results from a yesterday's(Saturday) 18 boat tournament out of Army Rec Center---1st place, with 2 fish, didn't even have to weigh their TWO in to get the winner---2nd place weighed in ONE fish---other 16 boats had ZERO fish.....Looks like?? 3 or 4 days of 15 degrees took its toll???.............................  Anyone have a better report??..........tia  Edit:------grandson & I fished outta Big Bass yesterday(NOT in the tournament)from 10 AM till 4 M and did not get a bite-----3 weeks ago we caught 10 & kept 6 basically out of same fishing area-----but---looks we would have tied for 3rd??........lol 1 Quote
Super User Catt Posted January 21, 2018 Author Super User Posted January 21, 2018 @getting there  The fish are always biting somewhere...ya just gotta find somewhere!  Everyone I've talked to is catching, not big numbers but decent fish. 1 Quote
Amateur Hour Posted January 21, 2018 Posted January 21, 2018 I fished Friday for two hours, yesterday and about an hour this morning. Â Grand total was two bites and a 2.5lb. Fish. Â I fished from 2 ft. To 20 ft. Â Talked to a couple of college guys that were scouting and they a 2.5 lb. fish and a short fish all day yesterday. 1 Quote
DamCajun Posted January 22, 2018 Posted January 22, 2018 Only caught 3 this weekend.  All on a RatLtrap and all were nice females with egos.  2.5 to 5 ft of water on a flat next to a shallow creek.  They maybe were just enjoying the warmer water in the shallows however I would swear these 3 were starting to look for a nest.   2 Quote
Super User Catt Posted January 22, 2018 Author Super User Posted January 22, 2018 Water temperatures way to cold for nests but definitely on the move. Â Bigger fish still coming from deeper water on the bottom ? 1 Quote
A5BLASTER Posted January 22, 2018 Posted January 22, 2018 Me and ametuerhour fished San Miguel Saturday afternoon, high winds keep us off the deeper water, we got skunked but had a good time anyhow. Â Something we noticed was the deeper water was showing mid to low 50's water temp and the shallow coves were showing mid to low 40's water temp. Â Don't remember the water depth that was showing the higher temps. Â Dang this water needs too come back up bad. Â Y'all don't catch them all I'm headed for Houston today and out too work on the 30th, can't wait too get back right in time for the big show, them fat girls should be doing their thing big time when I get back. 2 Quote
Redseal Posted January 22, 2018 Posted January 22, 2018 Folks I’m here to tell you , I absolutely love this new ultrex . I found fish on main lake points on brush piles and without the spot lock there is no way I would have caught those fish. It allowed me to go to the back of the boat and pick apart those piles. Caught several fish over 3 lbs in 20 ft of water that fell into 30 ft . Sunday morning followed the same pattern of brush piles but near channel swings. I didn’t set the world on fire either day but I put together a couple nice 5 fish stringers All my fish came off of c rigs and football jigs 4 Quote
Redseal Posted January 23, 2018 Posted January 23, 2018 I’ve got a question that I’m sure someone can answer here.  Almost every fish I caught had bright red lips. Lipstick bright. I’m sure I’ve seen it before , but it was really obvious. It’s a cold water thing but what’s the purpose ? Quote

RCCA Posted January 23, 2018 Posted January 23, 2018 Red, I think I heard or read that the red lips mean the bass are feeding heavily on crawfish. Quote

Looking for some help from Catt. I am new to this site and have read your comments on places to fish at toledo bend. Do you have any knowledge around mid lake. laban bay area. I am struggling to find fish in the deep water. Any spots would be helpful. I have the maps you give instructions with and would really like your help. 1 Quote
