On another note, be on the look out for fish tagged with a blue colored tag. There is a phone number on the tag for you to call to get a free bait. I saw it on facebook, but I was unable to find it again to get the bait company's name. Maybe Matrix?

Like others, I want to thank Catt and all the others that have loaded this thread with information. This is by far the most informative thread I have seen on bass fishing, especially a bass fishing on a specific lake. I will be on Toledo the end of January for a tournament and just by reading through this thread has been extremely useful.

Man this is a gold mine of information. I started reading from the beginning but only made it to about page 50. If i go any further i might get fired, lol. I will work on reading the rest. I have a camp i bought last year around cypress bend. I mainly fish slaughter, bogey, and lowes. I have been fishing this area for some time but always during spawn.

 

I have to say summer, fall and winter patterns are whipping my butt. I'm getting better but this thread really helped me. Thanks to all that has posted here.

Ahummmm.... Pickin’up??? When did it drop off?

 

I was there 2 weeks ago and had 15-16#s at the boat with hooks in their mouths but... Started off bad n’ got worse. First keeper of the day(had already boated 3 short fish) on a trap(sexy Shad 1/4oz.) ‘bout a 3#er going nutts at the boat. Already had the net out and it was layin’ within easy reach - all I had to do was pick it up but... When I looked at the fish I couldn’t even see the trap so... Gonna boat flip this’un - I thought. Fish never even left the water.

 

Had’em jump off on a c-jig - almost never happens. And just come unbuttoned on a t-rig - been known to happen before. The only bright side to the day was that after 3 bad practice days I had indeed located the fish.

 

The ABA tournament I fished(blast off from the Army ramp) 19#+, anchored by an 8.94#er, won it. 16#’s+ claimed 2nd. Then a couple of 14# bags... I “would’a” been in contention for 2nd place - didn’t have nothing for the 8.94 dude... 

 

Had to deal with a cranking battery that required jumping every time I moved, after about 10am. Ended up weighing in one fish - 1.68#’s.

 

It was 27 degrees when I went by the dock to check out that morning. I told the tournament director that I had so many layers of cloths on that if I fell in the water - it’d take 30 mins. for me to get wet. He laughed - must’a thought I was kiddin’...

I believe I will. Lets say i normally fish the area on this with a star. ( random place). When bass retreat for summer and winter patterns. How far will they actually retreat to. As in if a bass is that far in the finger will they retreat to the first arrow or will they retreat all the way out to the larger creek (second arrow) or all the way out to the main lake creeks?

I thought so but my eyes deceive me at times!

 

To explain how far bass move let's look at the main lake.

 

It is said the bass move into creeks during pre-spawn & this is partially true.

 

But do you think all the bass out on the main lake move into the creeks?

 

The bass out on the main live their entire lives never seeing a shoreline.

 

Negreet is a pretty long creek, do you think the bass out near the back move all the way to the front?

 

How far do they move?

 

I seen radio telemetry studies that show some bass seldom move great distances while others move quite far. 

 

I don't think anybody can definitely put a number on how far!

 

I do know from experience I've caught bass from the mouth of Negreet to the back year round.

Merry Christmas everyone...... @Catt I try to think of the fishing like i do deer hunting. Deer only move for 2 reasons Food/water or Pressure. I would think the same would apply to fish except temperature comes into play. If a fish could find what he needs in 30' of water closer to his home area i would see no reason to go any further.

 

Now I went out Thurs and Friday last week and pretty well got skunked Thursday. We fished hard and couldn't make them bite. I could see the shad balls all over. They had moved into the creeks 30'+. I couldn't find any that had active fish on my graphs though. All my before spots in the 20'-25' range was not producing. I ended up going and hitting my brush-piles with live shiners and caught some white perch. We actually caught 2 bass on these brush piles on Friday. 

 

When i see the shad in the creeks like this how would y'all approach these. In other words how would this affect your game plan. I am assuming the cooling temperature caused the shad to find deeper areas because the week before they was getting hammered in about 25ft and was suspended. Now they are glued to the bottom in the deepest creek in the area.

Good analogy but you forgot one Adam. Deer will also move when they are in rut, when its time to breed. Bass will do the same.

Both can be harvested in one of three ways

1. Find their homes; usually located on prime structure & in prime cover, both are setup on structure & in cover that allows them to see all directions at once. Maybe not 360 but it'll be as close as they feel comfortable.

2. Find their feeding areas; multiple areas that have sufficient food to last the present season.

3. Find the trails to & from those areas; both travel structure in a way that allows them to see while remaining unseen.

 

I probably pay less attention to water temperatures than most anglers, I promise ya pre-spawn will start long before your thermometer says so!

Your correct about that for sure but thats not why im ready for it to come up lol, its so low we cant launch a boat on san migel to even go shoot woodducks lol.

I know it's difficult on property owners but for fishing I prefer the level low, probably 168-169'.

 

After the last down stream flood don't look for SRA to keep the level high like they have in the past, this time they flooded out some lawyers!
