RCCA Posted October 18, 2017 Posted October 18, 2017 Good luck bud. I didn't forget you either with the details on importing the trails. Just still trying to kill two years worth of squirrels and hogs lol. Quote
Super User Catt Posted October 18, 2017 Author Super User Posted October 18, 2017 If y'all look at the map of Slaughter you will see a point almost dead center. Notice the creek "Y"s on both sides of the point! My absolute favorite piece of structure for finding larger than average bass would have to be an intersection. Intersection Defined: Spots where two creeks intersect or where a feeder creek intersects with the main river. Intersecting Logic: Around the ”Y” created by the intersection are found multiple forms of structure such as channels, points, ridges, ledges, sharp drop-offs, slow tapering drop-offs, and humps all in one location. The Best Intersections: Depths of 12-18' inside the ”Y” is my #1 attractant but this depth on all three sides along with timber and/or grass would be the prime example of a Honey Hole. Fishing at the “Y”: With my boat positioned inside the “Y” (usually anchored) and casting from shallow to deep with Texas Rigs, Carolina Rigs, Swim Baits & Jig-N-Craws I'll find the bigger bass. In winter months fish these areas with Jigging Baits or Drop Shots in 20 to 30' of water. 3 Quote
Amateur Hour Posted October 19, 2017 Posted October 19, 2017 Not good. We caught 4 small fish. 3 on main lake points and one on a point in slaughter. Hopefully today will be better. 1 Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted October 19, 2017 Posted October 19, 2017 I should be out there tomorrow. I'll report back if I find anyone. Quote
Amateur Hour Posted October 19, 2017 Posted October 19, 2017 Only caught one this morning and lost one over 5 right by the boat on her second jump. Tried a bunch of spots but not much happening for me 2 Quote
Super User Catt Posted October 20, 2017 Author Super User Posted October 20, 2017 @Amateur Hour don't what to tell ya! I'm hearing good reports from everywhere ? @Bass_Fanatic help! 1 Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted October 22, 2017 Posted October 22, 2017 The bite was finicky Friday. We caught 35 or so fish, but had a lot of fish that wouldn't eat right, they would knock the fire out of our jig and was gone. Surprisingly, we couldn't make them eat a dropshot, a jig got the majority of our bites. Had to graph around a lot to find the school. 15-20' close to channels. 1 Quote
Bryanhester Posted October 26, 2017 Posted October 26, 2017 Fished yesterday mid lake area and caught some on drop shot but most were small. Left and went looking in creeks for shad and found a creek with a bunch of shad a caught 20 or so with most of the fish coming on a series 5 shad crankbait. These fronts are starting to get the fish on the move and feeding. Only going to get better !! FOLLOW THE SHAD !! 3 Quote
FishNChip Posted October 27, 2017 Posted October 27, 2017 Sorry for the late report but had to head out to a job site as soon as I got back. Fished TB last Wed-Sun from Housen south to Lows Creek area (Magee Flats?). Underwater points on the main lake with wood and channels near their end. Drop shot was the ticket in 18-27 feet. Redbug, Green Pumpkin, Junebug Red Flake, and Bloodline (red black core) Finesse and Trick Worms. Use electronics to locate bait and bass so you don't waste time on barren water. Friday was our best day. As BF said, bite was weird, but once you got used to it, pull the trigger and a fish was on. One of the best trips we have made in 25+ years fishing The Bend. 3 Quote
DBaud Posted October 30, 2017 Posted October 30, 2017 First time posting! Been following this thread for a good while now, but just now getting the chance to head up to the bend!! Will be fishing the San Miguel area. Anybody have the run down on the fishing in that area?? Thanks in advance and hope I can give some good feedback after our trip!! Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 The fish are really biting rig now if you can find them. My last couple trips have been 30-60 bass per day with atleast a one good 5+lb fish in the mix. It takes hours to find an active group of fish, but when you do it's on. Dropshot, jig, Carolina rig, and a crankbait have all been catching fish, but the jig has caught all the big ones. 18-23' on points and hard bottoms. 1 Quote
Amateur Hour Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 Did I see that lake is at 164? Is it safe to run the boat lanes? Heading up there on Thursday to give it another shot. Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 The lake is at 167.69. Boat lanes are safe, just idle everywhere else 1 Quote
Amateur Hour Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 I see that now. I don't where the hell I got 164 from. Quote

RCCA Posted November 11, 2017 Posted November 11, 2017 It's cold, blue, and an East wind for my two days here and I couldn't care less. Just glad to be back. Full, hopefully, good report tomorrow. 1 Quote
RCCA Posted November 12, 2017 Posted November 12, 2017 It's not blue but I couldn't do it today. Hopefully, tomorrow. 1 Quote
RCCA Posted November 12, 2017 Posted November 12, 2017 Finally made it to Hurricane. It looks good but I couldn't figure anything out from daylight to 1:30. Headed somewhere else till dark. Quote
RCCA Posted November 13, 2017 Posted November 13, 2017 Caught 4. Terrible day. Back to hunting for me. 1 Quote
Amateur Hour Posted November 13, 2017 Posted November 13, 2017 Got back yesterday afternoon from the bend. Thursday-Sunday caught a total of around 80 bass but no size. We fished from Blue Lake to the mouth of carrice and multiple places in between. I took these snapshots, what do you think these are? Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted November 15, 2017 Posted November 15, 2017 Amateur Hour, those are balls of shad. The shad are everywhere right now, the key is finding the big dots sitting underneath them. We fishing Monday and boated 32 bass and missed a lot more. The fish were grouped up everywhere but they were stubborn and didn't want to eat. Only thing they would bite was a dropshot in 18-23'. We did catch a couple of good fish, but everything else was small to keeper fish. 1 Quote
Amateur Hour Posted November 15, 2017 Posted November 15, 2017 Thanks fanatic. So, it wasn't just us that had trouble finding better fish. Quote
Amateur Hour Posted November 15, 2017 Posted November 15, 2017 What size line and weight are y'all using to drop shot? Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted November 15, 2017 Posted November 15, 2017 I use 16lb braid to a 8-10lb floro leader, roboworm rebarb hook and a 1/4 oz weight. Quote
