So what happens when the Bend gets hit by 2+ inches of rain in a day?  how much does the water level rise?  Any tidbits people have picked up around what happens to the fish after an event like this?  I will report back with my results.

Uh let's see!

2" of rain on 190,000 areas...not much!

I would worry more about rain in the surrounding areas like Dallas/Ft Worth or Shreveport.

What it will do is make the backs of creeks off colored

There's a great article on the web posted today at jimroot * discussing an outsiders view of the current state of Toledo Bend. It's a great, unbiased take on a trend that we should all take very seriously.

Guys, fishing a little club tournament this coming weekend. I haven't fished the Bend(Rayburn is my goto) in a few years and any info would be much appreciated. Deep or shallow? grass beds just north of fin and feather holding any fish? will be fishing from housen to lowes creek.

Just a lil weather update for those thinking of hitting the bend today.

Local weather has released a severe flash flood warning from 4:30 this morning to 7:00 am tommorw morning and they predict up to 8 inches of rain over the next 24 hours, let's all be safe out on the bend today fella' s and let's all pray we get the rain so the water might come back up some.

Got the lil  woman to bring it up on her Facebook thing, so I can say is that dude is a straight plug.

I'm a hack average bass Fisher and I can catch a limit of bass on any day I want, so the fishing can't be that bad.

There is a group who believe keeping bass to eat will destroy Toledo Bend & they pile on people who legally keep a few fish to eat.

When they were rebuked for their nonsense they escalated their hate towards biologist who are trying to control Giant salvinia (Salvinia molesta).

Again I put my trust in Todd Driscoll & other biologist who handle this lake.

You are correct on all counts Catt.

I do keep me some bass for eating but I control how many and what size I keep, so me personally I don't think I'm doing any damage to the population.

I think it's more of them not haveing the skill to catch the bass and they have to blame someone or something for their lack of skill.

Same for me on SAN Miguel bass been super shallow for lil over a week, like less then a foot of water.

Had my limit of keepers in a hour this morning fishing caffine shad swim baits on a sand bar not for from the house bass were holding up in a foot are less of water on the sand bar running bait fish that were drivin up on the sand bar by the wind.

Then leavt and went it a peice of shoreline that has some flooded buck brush that hasn't produced a fish in two weeks pulled up and in twenty mints had six bass landed that were 4 to 6.4 pounds all on the frog, everyone of those fish were super heavy with eggs but didn't show any signs of had been making beds.

I think we've been fishing the same spot ?

I had 17 bites landed 14 most bass came in at 14 1/2 to 16 inches.

Got bite on caffine shad and ribbet

frog in 6 inches to 3 foot of water.

Y'all be safe out there today I'm done for the day.

Agree, total BS.  Thursday a week ago we killed them.  Best 5 was well over 20# with a 7+# kicker that would have been more if she wasn't spawned out.  Friday was different.  Conditions changed and we didn't, simple as that.  From his pics, Bass_Fanatic did just fine on that day.  The fish are there and plenty of them.  Up to the angler to figure them out.

Exactly!!!!

Oh my! The grass is gone! The water level is to low! To many people keeping n eating fish! To many tournaments!

This lake became #1 two years in a row because of the efforts of Texas & Louisiana biologist.

I agree completely to many cry baby's now days.

Had a conversation with a freind of mine last night we were talking about all that's been said lately about this subject.

He told me about a guy who posted he was a the bend Friday and said the guy posted he saw someone cleaning a 8 pound bass and that there was hundreds of dead bass in the water next to the fish cleaning station at the campsite they were useing.

I asked my freind if the guy posted what campsite they were at and the guy wouldn't admit to where he was at, funny how that works huh.

Like I told my friend I can see someone keeping and cleaning a 8 pounder it happens, but hundreds of dead fish in the water I said there is no way I'm believing that.

I told him if that was true every game warden on the Bend would have been parked in the parking lot writing tickets like there was no tommorw.

I just feel its a crying shame that so many so called anglers come to my home lake and can't put it together and find some fish so they have to turn around and bad mouth the ones in charge or the average Joe who keeps a few fish to eat because they don't have the skill set to back up their big talk of how good they are at bass fishing.

Heck I don't have the most are the best gear for bass fishing but I was out in that nasty weather yesterday and I had no problems finding and catching fish.

Sorry for going on a rant, it just burns my butt to no end to have people bad mouth the Bend.

I've fished this lake since 1970 (full time since 72) & have seen mom & pop grocery stores, tackle shops, marinas everywhere on both sides of the lake. I was there when Fin & Feather was running 300 guides a day!

I also watched those same businesses die a slow death & decay into a pile of rubble.

I remember the start of hydrilla when everyone cussed the grass swearing it would destroy the lake.

Well guys, it was a rough weekend for 4 rednecks that came to the bend in hopes of catching a fish. It was our first time there, had no clue where to go or what to do. It was way different from fishing our river back home. Needless to say, we fished San Miguel Thursday evening, Cypress Bend Friday morning, and san Miguel again Friday evening, producing 1 bass. We left the bend a day early because we were so frustrated. However, I am not bashing the Bend because it was a great experience. The next time I come, I will pay money for a guide service just to see how its done. We even stopped at Cotille Lake on the way home for 5 hours, still no fish. Just a bad weekend all around but hey it happens sometimes.

I like it back there and I also like those sand bars and islands at the point of San Miguel and 1215. I've been curious about those cypress tree island islands in the back of San Miguel too. Always a tons of birds. I feel if the water was up that would be a fun spot to flip.

Joshybadnames,Why wait for the water to be up there are bass on them right now.

RICE72, I'm sorry y'all didn't do so good this weekend, I was fishing the same areas you were at the same time and I caught a lot more bites.

How was y'all fishing, I caught mine on caffine shad and ribbet frogs and one or two on a square bill.

Yes the water is low yes the amount of grass is down and despite everthing people are saying and posting about the Bend being destroyed and the fishing being bad, there are lots of folks catching bass, so I wouldn't put much faith in what some people say about the fishing being bad.
