Drove up Friday night and was able to fish a little this weekend. Launched at day break on Saturday morning and started in Palo Gaucho for about two hours and not even a bite. I have been on some schooling fish in there but they never showed themselves. Moved over to Tennessee Bay for the remainder of the morning and fished points and humps deep for about another two hours with no bites. Moved shallow late morning and ended up catching two small ones and a 5 pounder by noon on white swim jig. Maybe should have been shallow all morning. Went back to the camp drank a few cold ones and boiled some shrimp. Took a lil nap in the late afternoon and then put the boat back in the water at dark thirty. First hour and a half pretty unproductive and then around 10:00 they started eating a lil bit. My son had a friend with us and his biggest bass to date was 4 pounds. Well his first fish of the night was 6.04 so he was a bit excited to say the least. Ended up catching about 12 fish by 2:00 am with two more between four and five pounds and four between three - four pounds. Figure best five would have went around 23 pounds. All fish were caught on points fishing same areas as the morning. Black and june-bug ole monster worms did the trick. Looks like I can finally get back up there in a couple of weeks.  Its been a long couple of months and I am sure looking forward to the fall.

I grew up in TX, married a gal from Louisiana, but I got transferred to AZ and I've lived there the last 20yrs. Most of my buddies play golf... I bass fish. Phoenix area actually has some decent lakes, and my 9yr old son and me are on them most weekends. (He's not a typical 9yr old, he will fish all day with me, hot bite or no bite, he's got the bug too!) AZ is mostly clear, deep, ledge fishing, with little vegetation. So finesse fishing - drop shot, tiny swim baits, 3-4" tx rigged hand poured worms - all on 8-10lb FC is the norm for us. We catch lots of small bass, never any lunkers.

I added a few days to my Labor Day vaca, and I'm bringing my boat to TX this week. My in-laws live in Trinity on Lake Livingston, so that's our base, but I plan to fish all day Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and I'm striking distance of Sam Rayburn and the TX side of Toledo Bend each day. 

I've been reading your posts, you're clearly experts on your local waters -- what advice can I get from you guys to get best results from my vacation?  I'd love to get my 9yr old fishing buddy on his first 5 pounder.

i would appreciate any and all advice - where to launch, where to fish, what baits, line, colors are best. I'll hit the Academy on Wednesday (I love that store, we don't have them in AZ) and stock up on anything you suggest.  Thanks in advance!

Has anyone heard of spraying on the Texas side around Indian mounds?? I hope it's not true but rumor has it that airboats have been spotted around that area. ??

I spoke with a buddy of mine that works for the TPWD and he said they are spraying all none native grass and salvania. Unfortunately this does include the haygrass ???.   I sure hope this is not true !! We need the hay grass....

I finally got a chance to get back up to Toledo yesterday. Fished from daylight until 4 and put 60-70 in the boat.  I found fish stacked up in 22 ft of water and every once in awhile they would move on top of the ridge in 13ft and feed.  Caught them all on a swimbait and a dropshot.  Can't get a crankbait bite to save my life!  Biggest was only 4lbs, but it sure was fun to finally find a few big schools again.

A little late with this report but the night bite was on again last weekend. Same pattern as before main lake points near deep water. If you find some brush piles or structure on these points in 15' - 25' there will be fish there. Most fish caught on ole monster worms in black or june bug/ red flake. Caught several bass with two biggest weighing 5-1/4 and 5-3/4. A few four pound plus as well. I think the day time bite will start improving big time real soon. They are jammed up pretty good right now though in 20 -25 feet in some big schools. Just have to do a ton of graphing to find them.

Went back up to Toledo yesterday. Found a good school of fish early and caught 37 before 8 am.  Had a 8 and a quote a few between 3-4lbs.  They are on top of humor and ridges early feeding, then after 8 they suspend and become almost impossible to catch.  I did find 3 more big schools later in the day but had to work hard just to get a few of them to bite.  Most fish were caught on a big worm.

No. I have my mapping shading less than 10' red, 10-18' light blue, 18-23' green, and the rest dark blue.  On this part of the lake the contours aren't in 1' increments so it shades 15-25' green.  The green in those pics is actually a drain running into a big flat.
