Fished 6 mile Saturday and half day Sunday.  Saturday was brutal on me.  2 fish, first bite at 2:44 in the afternoon. Was a nice day. Sunday morning was a little better. Had 6 fish Sunday.  I think I was just trying to get them to do what I wanted them to do.   All fish were good solid 2-3 lb fish.  I would have loved to stay the whole week this week.

It was tough!  I did better Saturday than Sunday!  6 Saturday in a huge East wind bluebird day. Almost got skunked Sunday in a beautifully overcast south wind before a front!?  Go figure. Pulled four knot heads at the end near the landing to save the day before coming home. Taught me a lesson again though.

About the time we think we have them figured out...the bass prove to us...we don't!

Yeah you right Catt. Fished White Oak/ Indian Mounds area Friday all day till 6:00. Got my first and only bite of the day at 4:30 and it was a 5 pound fish on a xcalibur red one knocker. Cant explain it beautiful conditions and tried everything. Back at em Saturday and caught 5 solid keepers on a texas craw color all terrain jig with a speed craw trailer way up shallow. Three over 4 pounds. A couple small ones on a spinnerbait. Sunday morning went to Hines creek for 3-1/2 hours and scratched.

draino, how y'all are?

If ya launch at Alpine check out the Palo Gaucho Flats & Spring Hill area.

We did make it Monday.  Got skunked, but my brother picked up a couple of small ones on a CR with a fluke further into Palo.  A bad day fishing can actually be a good day.  The weather was nice, but the South wind was too much on our small boat to fish in the open waters around the flats.  Gotta keep more options available in protected areas.

Thinking about going back this Saturday.

Gotta question about contour maps and electronics, if someone has the answer.  The printed maps I have show limited contours (12', 32' & 52') that indicate where the main channels run and some larger flats.  I recently viewed a webinar on youtube of TB where a Navionics app was used.  The contours on the map were 1' and provided a very detailed picture of elevation changes.  I have experience reading contours from doing land navigation and orienteering, and creating contour maps for orienteering meets.  The problem is that I'm not ready to drop a lot of money on electronics for the boat, but would like to get my hands on some better contour maps.  Any idea of where to get digital copies?

Thanks.

If you have an IPhone Navionics has an app that has the same maps. I'm not sure about brands other than apple but I'm sure they do. I think it is somewhere around $15 but you get access to the whole country. You can also download maps from Navionics web app so you can view them when not connected. Just dig around in the menu's and you'll find it.

Thanks Guidroz. It's not really as on as thought it would be. Imagine that lol. So far, Friday I fished from 10 to 5 at 1215 and caught 12. Today fished 11 to 5 and caught 6 in Carrice. The water temps are up to 65 in some places!  I think the fish are as confused as I am. Tomorrow?  I might just think of something and do the opposite lol

Yesterday we fished from 6:30 to 6:30 in Indian creek and buck creek caught 12, 5 keepers 2 of them over 3 and a half. Missed a few also. Most of them were caught on points on plastics

Fished yesterday and today with my son, unusual break from baseball.  Boated 50+ fish with the biggest weighing 5.5#.  Caught a few deep, but majority from 6 fow to bank.  Witnessed a 10.6 caught off of a bed.

My son and I fished the Rat L Trap tournament yesterday. Didn't do good. Only brought 3 fish to the scale for 7 lbs.

Friday - Lauched at Big Bass Friday morning , with plans to explore do run and gun scouting. From the start, my Lowrance gave out on me. Didn't have all the maps I had been putting together for the past 2 weeks. Went to Lowes, Six Mile and Indian Mounds. Only throwing traps and echo squarebills. Picked up a few short fish. Not being able to see my contours, depth and water temp, I got aggrevated. Went back to dock and sent my son on fishing in Big Bass cove. I drove 2 hrs back home to get my laptop so I could try and reload the latest update for my unit. By 4pm I was back at the boat trying updates with no success. Got on phone with tech support trying hard and soft reboots with no success. 5:30, jump in truck on our way to Bass Pro in Shreveport. Picked up new unit and back to the boat my 9pm. All good after getting my maps uploaded.

Saturday - Went to Corsey Creek area, Carrice and Lowes, Just couldn't find good fish on traps. Threw red, gold, chomes, etc, just short fish. Jumped back over to Yokum and picked up some more short fish. At the end of the day, didn't have anything really figured out. Water temps were perfect, Couldn't ask for better weather conditions.

Sunday - Started in the very back of Negreet Creek cove. Picked up a couple short ones on chrome and black back in hay grass. About 9am, decided I was trying to force myself to fish what I didn't want too. Back home, one of my confidence baits is a chartruese squarebill. Chartruese is the one color I haven't ever heard people mention for Toledo. Tied on my echo squarebill and started beating wood. Ended up catching 12 fish, with only 3 for weigh in. Stayed in Negreet all day, working bluff walls where the creek ran closest to points. Had to deflect it off something to get bit. Wouldn't go for a stop and go retrieve. It almost killed me not picking up my flipping stick with all the buckbrush and grass. My son and I got to spend some quality time together and we had a good time. Got a tournament back home this weekend at Indian Creek but we'll be back in 2 wks to Toledo, and it won't be with traps. Thanks for all the good info on this site.

I was the guy that caught it.  Officially it weighed 10.71 and was tagged then released.

My son talked about the show she put on, beautiful fish for sure.  It has him fired up for sure, we looked for beds the rest of the day.

Awesome fish! Hard to believe fish are already on beds down south, but with the warm winter and full moon it makes sense.  Congrats on the DD!

I wanna say around 25 lbs. Someone had one over 10 caught.

Heres a few shots I got over the weekend while recording. Still learning how to interpret certain things.

Congrats rippin. Y'all had a better weekend than me. Indian creek and buck creek were still cold. We didn't see any beds, but saw 40 plus boats in buck Saturday lol

That's some nice screen shots. I'm still learning my electronics as well but I would say that it definitely looks like you were around some fish. I just cant say what kind lol. Catch any of those you marked?

So me and my dad went to Rayburn saturday and caught 20, then tried Paulo Gaucho Sunday morning before we left. We shot across to the Hines Creek area. We started off pretty good, caught 3 quick at the opening of a smaller creek with rattletraps and cranks. We kept moving along, and after that it was like the switch turned off. Nothing we would throw would entice a bite, and we only caught 3 more the whole morning. The biggest one we caught was in our own cove lol. Our biggest problem was locating the fish. Tried humps, points, mouths of creeks, shallow creeks, and didn't see too many come up on the electronics. We still haven't figured out the secrets of Paulo Gaucho, so if anyone would like to share them or a better way to locate fish there, I'd greatly appreciate it.

My report for last week isn't a good one. I never got on a good bite. I did catch a few in the buck brush shallow in the 1215 area. Had a few get off, and straightened my owner 2/0 hook. I caught those shallow on a zoom speed craw. I caught a few in the cove my camp is on. My first morning I caught two 3 lb'ers on a chartreuse/white chatterbait with a swimbait trailer. Saw 60 deg + water and didn't see any shallow fish. Oh well, it was great weather most of the time. I probably should've trailered down south, but I seem to always say that. I hope my two weeks at work go as fast as my two weeks off. s
