RCCA Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 I'm here until back surgery. After that, I'll be here even MORE! Swing by Twin Oaks and set a spell or watch for a black Lowe with two power poles in the shallows somewhere Still working on the depths! They make me mad! Lol Every weekend I meant. Still trying to work the best I can. 1 Quote
Super User Catt Posted February 6, 2016 Author Super User Posted February 6, 2016 Little Fish, I have 3 herniated disc & torn ligaments so I know the pain quite well. 1 Quote
RCCA Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 I know you do Mr. Catt. I feel your pain and respect you immensely. Thanks again for this great thread or whatever it's called. I've offered before but if you ever need a place to stay you got it. Hell, you can even take my boat as long as I can fish from the back 1 Quote
LSUh20fowler Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 Been following for a while now and appreciate and enjoy all this info. I'm just starting to fish the Bend since about 20 yrs ago. Growing up, we had a camp at Kites landing and then at Pirates cove, that we spent every weekend at. Just had surgery on my foot for plantar fasciitis, which I've been fighting for 2 yrs. Its tough getting old and I ain't even old yet. Hope to be there for the Rat l Trap tx later this month, if the doctor gives the approval. Quote
RCCA Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 Welcome LSU! Always. I'm the same. I fished here when I was a pup in my uncles' boats. It's different when you're the "Captain" making all the decisions. I started back here last February and enjoy the challenge. I'm here for the 10 plus. Caught a 9+ last spring. Ain't catching anything close to that around the house. Good luck to ya. Quote
LSUh20fowler Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 I got (2) 8's and (1) 9 lber last year out of Chicot. Mostly fish Chicot, Indian Creek and Henderson swamp. But want to learn deep structure fishing and no better place than the Bend. Quote
RCCA Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 Well, I tip my old cap to you for that! Nice job! Quote
Super User Catt Posted February 6, 2016 Author Super User Posted February 6, 2016 LSUh20fowler! Ya aint a Cajun huh? Dat some nice hawgs! Little Fish my biggest challenge aint my back it's getting out of town! Til school's out I can only fish mornings or Saturdays, kinda hard to drive 2 hrs one way & be at school for 1:30! 1 Quote
RNG521VX Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 Hello guys! Haven't been on in a long time. Kids and their extra curricular activities have kept my boat on the trailer for quite a while. Finally got to get the her wet Thursday and fished the Mill Creek area and didn't do very well. Picked up one fish about 6lbs around 10:30am off a brush pile on a 1/2oz camo jig backed with a Net Bait Paca Craw in green pumpkin color. I switched to a 1/2oz & 3/4oz Berkley Frenzy trap around 1pm with not even a swipe at it, then back to the jig for the rest of the day. Picked up a 10+lb blue cat out of a log jam in a creek bend. Thought I had one worth taking to certified scales till it surfaced. Hydrilla is thin till you get into the backs of the coves then begins to thicken up. North wind 15-20 kept me from venturing to 6 Mile and Housen. Anyone having success in the southern portions on the Texas side? 1 Quote

RonnieF Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 Welcome LSU and welcome back RNG. Thanks for the report. We're supposed to head back up there Thursday for a week. Offshore right now and it's killing me seeing all these big bass pics. 1 Quote
mguidroz Posted February 7, 2016 Posted February 7, 2016 I fished Housen Friday and what a difference one day makes. I boated five fish with 2.5 being the biggest. I fished the same pattern as the days before. I will be up next week and will report. Good luck everyone. 1 Quote
RCCA Posted February 7, 2016 Posted February 7, 2016 Fished from 10 am to dark in the 1215 area. Water temps 53 to 54 degrees. Stained just enough. Caught 15 shallow. Biggest was 3. Super slow rolling a spinnerbait and DEAD sticking a Senko. It was slow for me. 1 Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted February 7, 2016 Posted February 7, 2016 I caught 7 yesterday and 5 today. Not looking good... 1 Quote
RNG521VX Posted February 7, 2016 Posted February 7, 2016 The weather is looking nice for next weekend! Hopefully some of the big girls will move up a little shallower and make for some excellent fishing. Hoping to make it out tomorrow and brave the high winds in the 6 Mile area and hit Housen Friday evening and all day Saturday. Will post report. Good luck everyone! 1 Quote
Super User Catt Posted February 7, 2016 Author Super User Posted February 7, 2016 Heard & seen photos of 4 ten lb plus along with several over 9! Quote

Never caught much in that are, don't know why, quite trying! Now if you look at the Hook-n-Line map to the northwest of there you'll see Spring Hill Bay & an old roadbed. That is what we refer to as Machine Gun Ridge, won some tournaments right there! I'll look into your other spots Interesting I completely missed those road beds... You guys like to fish where they intersect or troll along them until you find some baitfish? As far as me fishing the wrong side of Palo Gaucho... WOW! I thought i was doing everything right, following the creek channel and all LOL. Just goes to show you, i got some learnin' to do! Quote
Super User Catt Posted February 7, 2016 Author Super User Posted February 7, 2016 zefman, like RonnieF I've caught a few but not enough to make me wanna hang out! Spring Hill is a place I night fish during summer, I tend to move more than stay put. Some structure I camp on some I move! Quote
RCCA Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 Fished a little while today before coming home. Fished the back of Sandy cause it was close. Too stained for me. Water temp 52 to 54. Caught one on a spinnerbait and two on a brush hog. Biggest was 2 pounds. Be back next weekend. Good luck to all. 1 Quote
LSUh20fowler Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 Haven't finished reading all the way through this thread yet but working on it. With doctors approval on Wednesday, I'm looking to go do some scouting at the bend. Been studying my maps and plan on doing a lot of looking with my graph. I've become addicted to the "insight genesis" and recording and making my own maps of my local lakes. Anyone else use insight genesis ? Plan on scanning and checking out places I see on the " hook and line" map and compare to the map I scan. As far as a report, my son and his friend fished from Friday and Saturday ended up catching 19 bass with the biggest 4.5. All on rat l traps and T-rigged watermelon red plastics. They fished around Housen and Mills mostly. 1 Quote
Super User Catt Posted February 8, 2016 Author Super User Posted February 8, 2016 Good report LSUh20fowler! Gonna look into that program! Quote
Bugzx250 Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 We whacked them this Saturday, 4 of us caught 34, all were between 3-4lbs. They are shallower than they should be this time of year. My buddy stayed and fished Sunday, we had to head home for Super Bowl party, and he whacked em again with his biggest 5 right at 20lbs. Some of the females looked like they spawned already and the others were about to pop, some had eggs oozing out. Gonna try and head up there again this weekend. With the mild temps big mommas should be dropping. Wish I could give location but have a buddy that's fishing a tournament and he wasn't far from us. 3 Quote

First off ya gonna have to get over the stained water, the fish are still there. Look at your map near the hwy 87 bridge, find six mile south coves. These are good pre-spawn areas, fish em with traps & spinnerbaits. 2 over 7# & a 9# was caught there this weekend 1 Quote
RCCA Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 I like stained water. Should have said muddy, I guess. I know they're still there just mentioning it for a report in case anybody was wondering. Like the water temp. Thanks for the heads up on Six Mile. I caught fish there last fall. I remember last year at this time, they were hammering them north of the bridge and not so much south of the bridge so been focused north of the bridge. Time to refocus. 1 Quote
LSUh20fowler Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 I was told that Tommy Martin had a mapping chip made for Toledo but I can't find it anywhere online. Anyone know of a place that sells them ? 1 Quote
