My dad told the fog was ridiculous today. He said most of the day he couldn't see his boat house. We have been having good luck in the Palo Gaucho branch of the lake, even with the water being a little more stained than other areas.

I'm terrible over here in a full moon. That's one thing I'm consistent at since last February. Lesson learned. Unless I plan on night fishing, I ain't coming lol

That's how it goes... Merry Christmas :)

Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas.  Its time to start getting serious now.  Cleaning out the boat of 100 lbs of plastic I never use.  Seems like I do that every year.

Fished the whole week of Christmas.   Fog, wind, full moon, rain, and more wind made for a miserable trip.  Still better than work.  Fished mostly the Palo Gaucho area near the main lake entrance since the weather was limiting.  Picked up a few decent fish on a T-rigged Sweet Beaver in black w/ red flake letting it fall off the top of the grass near the banks.  Also picked up a couple on a black and blue flake wacky rigged senko in the afternoons.   A white spinner bait produced only one fish for me early one morning and I had nothing on the shallow cranks I was having success with previously.

After listening to some wise advice from a local I tried a couple of points with 25-30 foot of water with a Carolina rigged (which I can not stand to throw) watermelon/red plastic and low and behold there were fish down there.  Nothing big and not a bunch but at least it wasn't a bust.   Found huge schools of shad near the surface in the evening but found no bass under them.  We tried swim baits, cranks, flutter spoons, and traps with no success near the shad.   My brother fished near Lowes and had consistent luck with chrome traps in the evening and watermelon and blue/black creature baits T-rigged near the grass lines early in the morning.

Should be back up in a couple of weekends and plan to concentrate on nothing but deep water slow fishing unless things change drastically.  All of the usual spots we have had success were barren wastelands this past week.

Fished six mile today, caught them on a tilapia colored drop shot worm with chat. dipped tail.... Find the flats and the drains going through them, fish the mouths, The fish were noticeable on the graph and so were the shad 17ft in creeks and 25-35ft main lake

Good report, thanks.  Dipping the tail has been working all year for me. I guess it helps in when the water is off a little. I think I will pour the next batch with the tails chartreuse and some orange for the spring.  Looks like high water again.

Hey guys I don't frequent the Toledo Bend forum much but my father is headed to Texas for a few months with a camper to escape the South Dakota winter. He is planning on staying at Toledo bend for a while and hoping to do some fishing. I know you guys have had quite a bit of rain so any information would be helpful, but does anyone know a good guide in the area or would be willing to guide him on the lake?  Feel free to private message me if you don't want to post it here. Thanks in advance

Darold Gleason is a really good guy and one of the best guides on the lake.

Making my first trip over this year to the Bend this Friday for the weekend. Any current water temps and has these few cold mornings moved the fish deep. Taking the wife so hoped to be able to put her on a few. I will post a report when I get back.

Thanks,

Catt and everyone else.

Whats happened to Acme Mapper?  I have opened it up in chrome and explorer and cannot see the detail as I once did.  Is there some type of setting that needs to be checked?

Never mind, have to select TOPA, doh

Bryan Hester is on some nice fish but ain't sharing!

Hello everyone, I am new around here and have read most of this thread in the last week. I am looking for advice around the Negreet/Salter Area. I fish out of a small aluminum boat but i do have a lowrance unit with DSI. I also have a navionics app for my phone that can used for GPS as well as chekcing out contour lines etc.

I have been a bank beater all my life and normally only fish around the spawn.  I have been attempting to teach myself to read maps etc, and right now it seems like the creek bed that runs through Salter would be a productive place to start. Somewhere near the middle back. Anyways any advice or tips would be greatly apprecitated.

Sorry Catt .. Just retrieved my password . Lol .  i always forget it !!!!  Now for my report . Wednesday day started around lunch time and ended up with 19. Caught most of the fish on the ole Carolina rig brush hog. The bigger fish came on the crank bait and the jig. All fish were caught in 15 to 20 fow. Thursday went looking for new areas and ended up with 20 with nothing over 2.5.  All fish caught on football jig and Carolina rig. I can't find a shallow bite yet !! Won't be long !!!!!!

Thanks Catt, fished Negreet Creek towards the back yesterday. Caught 3 in the grass right off the creek channel on Carolina Rig. Fished Salter today from the bridge back to where it opens up. Caught 6 throwbacks in brush piles right off creek channel. The wind and cold ran me off the lake after that.

Fished this weekend with the wife. It had to be the worst conditions possible to take someone out on the lake that hardly ever goes and usually the weather has to be just perfect. On to the fishing report. Friday the fog was so thick I could not even get out to the main lake from Housen. Did manage to catch about 15 with only 2 being keepers on CR baby brush hog w/r with dipped tail all out of one spot. Its a spot Catt talked about just North west of Fin Feather where Housen Ck. makes a sharp bend around an underwater point. It shows up good on the Navionics map. They all came from about 24 ft deep and there were a lot of trees underwater at that depth range that the fish were holding around. I could have continued to catch them but decided to move to look for a bigger bite. Never did find anything else.

Went back to the same spot Saturday morning and only caught 2 small fish so started to head out to the main lake when I was going aroung the big point before White Oak creek I saw several loons diving. I stopped and ideled over the area and the screen lit up with bait and fish. Dropped the trolling motor and proceeded to catch fish after fish until the North West wind got up and blew me off. MY wife caught at least 10 and even caught a 10 lb catfish. All came on the CR baby brush hog. No great big fish but they all looked like they came out of the same mold and were all keepers about 14 to 16 inch fish. They largest one was maybe 3 lbs but only one that size. The water was between 20 and 22 feet deep in the area.

Sunday we just slept in as the temp was about 35 and the wind was blowing fairly hard at daylight.

Looking forward to my next trip as always.

I have to say, this is by far the best information I ever read about fishing Toledo bend! thanks for starting it Catt. Im only on page 11 but this post is excellent. I recently got a camp in San Patricio, a little north of Sepulvados landing. If i fish in that cove, I fish the 2 coves north of satellite cove and across on the back side of the little island with some success, usually on flukes. but I keep wanting to head across to the back of britten. I really like it there. Anyone fish that area? San Patrico, britten, Wilson etc?
