zefman78 Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 Thanks for the insight guys, this thread is really something amazing... finding myself reading stuff all the way back to 2010! I'll stay in touch with a report after my trip! Quote
jcdogfish Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 How y'all are Nick While I haven't been on the Big Pond in a month my thoughs are based on what I read here & guys I know who live there or fish it weekly. I think the bass are between late fall & winter patterns, not fully on either. Some guys are catching shallow & some deep but neither with any size. It's kinda like post spawn when we catch a lot of males but big momma is hard to come by. I could be totally wrong but that's my story & I'm sticking with it! Â Agree, I think the fish are more confused than I am. Quote
Super User Catt Posted December 2, 2015 Author Super User Posted December 2, 2015 Right now just like post spawn ya gotta either cover a lot of water or really slow down & pick the structure apart. Just like post spawn we got fronts moving in & out which affects the mood of the bass; ya got a feeding frenzy or lock jaw. Just like post spawn the fish are there but they aint feeding as often but when they do ya can load the boat! Quote
Bryanhester Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 Fished half a day Tuesday and half a day Wednesday. Caught 37 Tuesday afternoon and 18 Wednesday morning. Fish are more active in the afternoon hours. Caught fish on spoons and football jigs. 15 to 20 fow. "Important" VERTICAL DROP !!!! Water 62 degrees. Good water clarity mid ways back in creeks. 1 Quote
Super User Catt Posted December 3, 2015 Author Super User Posted December 3, 2015 Bryan were you fishing creek channels Quote
zefman78 Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 Ok Toledo Trip Confirmed! My wife and I are heading up mid-day on the 12th. She doesn't fish much but i plan on fishing the 13th, 14th, and 15th. I would LOVE to have a fishing buddy on any of those mornings (my wife will want to come out in the afternoon). Our camp is located about a 1/4 mile north of Slaughter Creek. As much as i have learned from the thread, i have NEVER fished toledo with an experienced Toledo Angler and nothing is better than fishing with someone who knows! If you're interested, shoot me a PM and i'll give you my contact info! 1 Quote

Bryanhester Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 Yes creek channels that come close to flats. when they are not as active I will get more toward the creek and drop the spoon when I find them on my electronics . Even when they are in the creek they are still close to the bottom. Quote
Super User Catt Posted December 3, 2015 Author Super User Posted December 3, 2015 zefman, I would if I could! Thank you Bryan. Quote
wagonwheel Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 I have my reservation for Fin & Feather on the 15th. I should get there late morning and my son (on his way home from college) in the afternoon. We will fish that day, stay the night, fish the 16th and head home in the evening. This is our first trip to Toledo Bend but I have been reading this thread and studying my A.I.D. lake map. I plan to stay in the Hausen Bay and Six Mile Bay area. It looks as though all the necessary componants are there and I don't want to spend the little time we have boat riding. Ratle Trap, C-rig, weightless, spinner baits, shaky head, spoons, and deep crankbaits are on the menu. I will try to keep the boat in about 15 ft of water or deeper, looking for structure and creek/road bed intersections. Any other advice is appreciated and if you see us say hello--16 ft brown Fisher bass boat with a 40 HP Merc. Thanks... 1 Quote
zefman78 Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 That's ok Catt, Im sure i'll be making the trip up quite a bit as we get closer to spring time! Quote

I'm now in a white and raspberry Puma FTD, 250 ProXS, 2 8' powerpole blades. This thing is sweet! If y'all know of anyone looking, I have a nice 07 Puma with a 250 ProXS on it for sale. Gorilla hull, Humminbird 998 and 898, hambys, 10' powerpole blade. 3 Quote

wagonwheel Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 I continue to read through this thread. It looks like I need to pick up a few white spinner baits for my Toledo Bend trip in a couple of weeeks. I am heading to BP later today, I will also look for some Gene Larew Salty Ringworms. I don't recall ever seeing those, but I am sure I can find something simular. Thanks to all who have commented here. I will give a report on our trip when we return but be advised--we fish plenty of times and DONT CATCH NOTHING! Quote

Super User Catt Posted December 6, 2015 Author Super User Posted December 6, 2015 Bass_Fantic On the schedule for this month: run the audio/video equipment for practice, dress rehearsal, & performances for the church's children's choir, adult choir, & school play. I'm attending 3 birthday parties, a ballet recital, a gymnastics meet & cooking for the church Christmas dinner. Some where in all that is my birthday present to myself, a trip to the Big Pond! 1 Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 I hear ya. December is always a busy month. We have our adult Christmas Play, Children's Christmas play, youth Christmas party, and next Saturday I'm taking about 25 of the your to Laffeyette to Christmas shop. Add in family obligations and parties and it ain't much spare time. But I plan on getting away to see if the boat will catch some fish on Toledo like the last one did! Quote
