FlukeJr Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 Thanks ***atic, I hope you're right. I just have a hard time fishing post-frontal bass for some reason, but give me a good cloudy, warm day on Toledo and its on! I'll post a report on Monday. Quote
Super User Catt Posted October 2, 2015 Author Super User Posted October 2, 2015 FlukeJr, how y'all are? Buzzbait early! Quote
Bryanhester Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 There are a bunch of fish in San Miguel chasing shad about mid ways back on the flats. They are making their way further back in San Miguel every day. Any shad imitation bait has been working. Early and late have been the best action. Quote
FlukeJr Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 Thanks Catt and Hester, I'll be on the San Miguel flats in the morning and will post a report. Hopefully, this north wind will lay down some at daylight. Quote
Skeeterzx20 Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 I have fished Toledo only twice. Putting in at cypress tomorrow and don't know wher to start lol. My friend went other day to flip grass said he found none not even in pirates cove. Is there any grass left at all , and if I go north where should be a good place to start for sum bigger fish. Thanks Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 I fished today. Wind was brutal and the lake was nearly impossible to run across. I launched in Pirates and ran to Housen. Ended up with 12 fish, top 5 maybe 13lbs. Just couldn't get a big bite today. I was wrong FlukeJr when I told you it wouldn't be as tough as you thought...it was Quote
FlukeJr Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 I'm sitting at the end of a pier at the mouth of San Miguel and the lake has 3 foot swells and it's 10pm! Gonna be brutal tomorrow too. There's no end in sight for this northerly gale. Gonna try to fish the north banks on the big flats in the morning. I'll post a report. Quote
Super User Catt Posted October 3, 2015 Author Super User Posted October 3, 2015 Glad I'm waiting until Tuesday! FlukeJr throw a Fluke Quote
RCCA Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 Glad I'm waiting until Wednesday! I'm usually there for these catastrophic weather events! Y'all hang in there. Hope to see ya when it settles Quote
RCCA Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 Bad enough I have to squirrel hunt in this lol. No complaints. Love the cooler weather! Quote
Super User Catt Posted October 3, 2015 Author Super User Posted October 3, 2015 With there grass being scattered & sparse any of y'all targeting wood (trees/brush)? Quote
FishNChip Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 About 20% of our scoreable fish came from standing timber in 20-25 feet of water up Housen close to channel breaks and the break on the wood near the main channel out from White Oak. Threw mid and deep (8 & 10XD) crankbaits and big flutter spoons. Keep a loooong casting top water handy for when they come up. All front hook catches on the crankbaits. Quote

Two patterns I'm hearing are shallow grass & deep wooded structure! Quote
Skeeterzx20 Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 Is there any grass mid lake I can flip even though it's shallow any hydroplane thick enough and if so where Quote
Kidflex Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 Hardly any grass anywhere. Heard it was from trying to kill the giant salivina. The grass beds that were there in the spring even with the high water are now gone. There's still some areas of shoreline grass and sparse hydrilla. The grass at the mouth of pirates looks terrible and sickly. Quote
Skeeterzx20 Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 Yea I heard that. Guess I'll try mid lake but have no idea where to start i haven't even heard of any pads to fish Quote
FlukeJr Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 My advice, don't get anywhere near Toledo until this gale force north wind is gone. Caught a few dinks this morning in 10-14 feet of water but not worth the fight against these brutal conditions. Also, it's tough to even find shoreline grass much less deep hydrilla. Really weird considering all the grass and pads this spring and summer??? Quote
Skeeterzx20 Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 Yea well I decided to wait till wed to go . But gonna put in cypress bend and try mid lake I guess I'll go in creeks and start and fish back. I wanted to find sum pads but may not be able to Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 There are pads just south of patroon. I haven't fished em lately, but they are there Quote
Skeeterzx20 Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 Like around carice creek how far south I'll be putting in at cypress Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 Between the bridge and patroon on the west bank 1 Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 By the way, I'm selling my 2007 Puma/250 ProXS. If y'all know anyone interested send em my way! Looking to buy a new one if I can sell mine. Quote
FishNChip Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 At least where we were in Housen, hydrilla seemed fine from 3 or 4 to 8 ft. Deeper than that, it is laid down and brown. Other grasses seemed OK but I don't think these types get out as deep as healthy hydrilla.  As Catt said, two patterns. Shallow grass early and late and deeper water with wood near breaks from late morning to late afternoon. Lots of baitfish and schooling predators on the graph. This was almost 3 weeks ago and I'll bet its gotten better as the weather is cooling.
