FishinSid Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 Hello, I have checked on this thread on and off for a couple years but have never posted.  I have learned quite a bit from all of the tips you guys have shared  I have been looking at recent posts to get a read on the patterns.  I will be up there the weekend of March 28th.  and hoping to be in the thick of it.  i will be staying at Turtle Beach Lodge near Negreet.  Mostly fishing that cove at Turtle Beach but may venture around the corner to Salter.  Any thoughts, reports or tips on that area would be appreciated.  Thanks Quote
Bryanhester Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 Wow !!!!! What a thread. So much knowledge to decipher but fun . My wife wants me banned from this web sight. Fished Monday in the patroon area and also 1215 area. Results were not impressive. Caught 4 fish all day with 6lbs being the biggest. Water temps were 52 main lake to 58 in protected areas by days end. We need SUN !!!!!! Thanks for all the teachers, hope I can contribute and do my part to keep this thread a winner !!! Quote
andychapman13 Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 Thanks, Cat! Hopefully al the rain is making the water level rise a little. Was in Slaughter last weekend and got my boat stuck on top of stumps in an area where I usually rack up. Gimme another 6 inches and I can fish more freely without worrying about my boat!lol And you're right about fishing that area year round. It has a lot of great spots for post-spawn when they move off of those beds! Quote
RonnieF Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Well my report for this past weekend, was poor for me. I caught 4 fish. One 5.5 on a one crawfish colored one knocker. 2 short fish on a Carolina rigged fluke. A 2.5 lb chunk on a chatter bait. I fished around north Toledo state park & main lake 1215 area. Now I'm back to the honey do's. I spent half a day doing maintenance & changing plugs on the 225 opti. Fouled plugs were my problem, thankfully & not something more costly. Quote
bullet20 Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 With the TOBI going on.I dought its quit.lol Quote
FishinSid Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 hopefully that means there is a lot of fishin' goin' on Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 ExpressKid and I went today. Only caught 8 fish, but had 20lbs. We caught 3 fish over 5lbs. Quote
ATX Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 Hey guys. Finally made it up to the big pond this past weekend. I was only able to fish in Indian Creek due to the lack of confidence in my boat.. When trying to start my motor it would click several times before starting.. Anyway I'll have to look into that. But the fishing was pretty good. The mornings were slow but by the evening they would turn on. No Lunkers this time but several 2 1/2 to 3 ponders. I had the most success fishing 8-10 fow. Any ideas on my motor? It's an 06 Yamaha 200hp hpdi. Thanks and God Bless Quote
Wesley Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 Atx that click should be the solienoid on your starter pulling in. If your having to try multiple times to get the starter to kick on then sounds like its going out. Quote
ATX Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 OK thanks.. Another question for you then.. How many cranking amps should my battery be? I've had a 500 cranking amp battery for 6 years but recently noticed my dad's is a 1000 and he only has a 50 ho motor. Quote
Wesley Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 I believe the minimum cca for a 2006 hpdi is 512. When you get a new battery get something around 800. 1 Quote
Shanon Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 We have a group that always fishes the last 10 days of March at the Bend, The full moon is this weekend and it got us talking and I'm wondering this: Over the past 20+ years we don't catch as many fish the few around the Full Moon. We catch great numbers 2+ days before and after but not as many on days at the full moon. Other factors in spring greatly affect catches like super cold fronts, high winds, heavy rains, etc but I was wondering if others notice any let off at a Full Moon?  We always catch better on the New Moon all day.  Shanon Our trip starts on March 20 (wife just said my spirit is already there waiting on my body) Quote
ATX Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 I know the feeling Shanon... I booked a December deer hunt in Kansas and couldnt sleep for a week! 9 more months lol.. ill be working a T/A for the next several month so ill be living through all of yalls fishing stories.. keep em coming and post some pics of the hawgs i know will be caught on the Bend this year.  God Bless Quote
Many Boy Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 New to this forum, so this is my first post.Unbelievable amount of info! I know its been said a hundred times but thanks so much to all that have contributed to the share of knowledge, especially those such as Catt, ***atic, shaneus, six mile c-rig, and not least, fishinfordollars, RIP. It is so rare these days for people to share their knowledge, tips and secrets even in a sport that we all love so much. There have been many many people affected by this thread, its like a life story! I started at the beginning and have read and copied every page to Word, I know I will refer to it many many times. I grew up around TB but never took the opportunity to fish it until the recent years after I was able to buy a boat. It always seemed so overwhelming but Catt has brought it into a perspective that is easy to manage by picking it apart, creek by creek, cove by cove. The times I have fished it were not very successful, at least consistently. It always amazed me how some guys seemed to always be on the big ones. Of course now I realize those guys are the ones that I saw behind my back fishing out in the "middle of nothing"! Thanks again to everyone!  One question for now. I can't , for the life of me, find those posts by Matt Fly that are suggested reads. I have used advanced search in every way that I can think of but cannot find any of the forums started by Matt Fly. Quote
bullet20 Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 A 12.89 was caught a few days ago.The guy said they watched it come up from deeper water and push a males bass around a then did her thing. Wow bass was weighed and released at TT. nice job. I hope I can do some big fish sight fishing this weekend. Quote
Ranger Fishin' Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Howdy guys, Â I'm new to this forum. I haven't read through the whole forum, but I have read through the beginning of it. I just wanted to share my recent fishing report. Â I was out on the big pond 3/8/14-3/11/14 and 3/13/14. I fished off the tip of millions point like Catt suggested, and I caught an 9lb bass. I was using a DD22. I also fished a small pocket with easy access to deep water in Indian mounds and was able to find some small bass up shallow. My buddy and I caught caught 8 bass out of this spot on weightless rigged senkos. The warm water temperature (63F on 3/18) must have driven the bass up shallow. These bass were not large, but none the less fun to catch. They didn't seem to be spawing, but they appeared to be in prespawn. Â I hope to read the rest of this forum and others to increase my structure fishing knowledge. Quote
ATX Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Great catch RF! I haven't ever been so lucky on a deep diver yet. Quote
