Bass_Fanatic Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Just got back from my 3 days on Toledo. Feels good to finally get back up there. Fished Thirsday from the mounds down to six mile. Caught 8 fish, biggest went 7lbs. Found a stack of fish on a point, caught 4 in 7 cast and left em for my Tournament today. Friday I fished lowes down to the mounds and only caught 4 fish, big fish went 4.5lbs. I really struggled Friday, the wind was howling and I never saw the sun. It was rough. Today was tournament day, started on the point that I caught fish on Thursday and caught a quick 19lb limit. I culled up a few times and my dad caught his 5 there too. After fishing it out I hit a few other grass pints in 12-15 fow and caught a big fish that went 10.2lbs on our scales. Ended up catching 19 fish and I weighed 26.5lbs and my dad weighed 14.5lbs. I won out tournament and big bass with that 10.2! It was a great day for sure. AND I wasn't the only one to catch a BIG fish...somebody else around here caught a stud, but I'll let him tell y'all about it. And I got to meet SkeeterDon on the water today. It was good meeting you! Nice guy for sure! 1 Quote
RonnieF Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Great job ***atic. I bet you were pumped to land that 10.2 when it mattered. Congrats. Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Man I was franking out. It seemed like she jumped a thousand times!!! If anybody is going up there soon and wants more info on what I did, pm me, I don't want to post everything for the public to see. Quote
Bloodandguts Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Tough day. Started off fishing mouth of Lowes (ridges). South wind at 5-10. Water temp 55. Jigs, traps, lizards...nothing. Got socked in the fog. Then moved to millionaire point and fished shallow and deep---0. Fished a hump off the river (6-30 feet)---0. Fished the oil well area---0. Got a tip that fish were on beds in back of Lowes, so I decided to make that run to try to get the kids on some----lost one on a fluke and that was it. We fished flats, humps and main creek-- nothing. water temp 60. Decided to end the day in Louisiana, so fished the main creek of salters, 15 feet +\ 3. Tried the flats as well--- nothing. In summary fished at lot of various terrain and techniques, but came up short. Threw everything imaginable: jig, spinner, lizard, senko, wacky, fluke. Biggest problem I had was grass (2-8 feet), made it impossible to work baits. This is first time I ever fished a jig (for bass), so maybe that's part of the problem. Suggestions??? Quote
Super User Catt Posted March 2, 2014 Author Super User Posted March 2, 2014 Bass_Fantic, that's how ya kick bass! B&G, that's pre- spawn on the Bend! You're either on em or wondering if you're on the same lake! I thank God for the opportunity we to fish this lake! I LOVE TOLEDO BEND! Just look at Bass_Fantic's stringers, 26.5+14.5=41 lbs, guys that's a 4 lb average, tell me we aint blessed! I get ridiculed on this site because there are anglers how understand with a 20 lb sack ya may only get your entry fee back. I keep close track of tournaments, they indicate how the year may be. Lots of BIG sacks being weighed along with some HAWGs, from what I can verify there have been 10-12 bass weighed since Jan 1st. Quote
cajunpapi Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Great , Fantic, what a job! Again Congrats. Quote
05z20 Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 catt I know what you mean about wondering if I'm on the same lake as the rest. Went today we caught 5 fish with four short fish. Quote
bobfrogg Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Its been a while since i was on the Bend can anyone tell me what the fishing is like above Huxley. Â Quote
Express Kid Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Well Bass_Fanatic Smoked me in our club tournament Sat. What a HAWG! Pictures do this fish no justice but I did get second for big bass with a 9.2 Toad that I caught on a trap in 5 ft of water close to deep water. I finished 3rd over all with 18.9 lbs. I started out at Carrice creek where I caught her as my first fish. After the fog lifted I ran to Lowe creek and fished the wind blown points and north bank with a Watermelon Red fluke.caught 4 buck bass to finish out my 5 fish. Not a big bag but i was happy to have five fish. My brother fished with me and only caught one 6 pounder all day fishing a trap and jerk bait. funny how two people can fish the same water and be so far apart. He kept claiming that I was nosing in on the fish but I asured him that wasn't the case it was the best tallent that overcame. LOl Had a great time. Congrats on the win Bass_Fanatic. 1 Quote
BulletDon Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Great meeting you Bass_Fanatic and great stringer. Quote
Bloodandguts Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Fished Sunday afternoon and decided to head to Palo G. to stay out of the wind. Fished some points in main creek and picked up a 15" fish on a KVD lipless crank (shad) in about 10 fow. Saw some other guys pick up two fish on a chrome trap. Decided to fish a creek channel into a large cove. Tried to stay on the creek edge and work the lure from the middle of the creek, deep to shallow. No luck. I found a bank that was grassy and had a steep drop off.  Picked up a few fish: one 3 and the other 2 lbs. Lost a 4 at the boat and had 3 other good hits. Caught them on a WMR senko. The key seemed to be the steep bank with grass,  as there were no strikes on the shallower side. Water in Palo is clear. Temp 55-58. Was going to fish today, but was too darn cold.  Going to try to be back on the bend in two weeks.    Quote

Bloodandguts Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 A question regarding pre-spawn fishing. When you find an area that you believe to be a prime spot to fish, are you seeing the fish "stacked-up" on your screen or is it a matter of fishing these spots to determine if the fish are there? Catt, what are your thoughts? Pat   Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Both...it can be hard to find fish on your graph of they are relating close to the grass, so you just have to fish it to find out, BUT, there are times the fish will hold on the outside grass line and you can see them clearly on the graph! Last week I saw my fish on my graph for the most part, but they weren't sucked up into the grass. Quote
scott m Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 WOW!!! I just spent the last 3-4 days on and off re-reading this whole thread with Acme mapper at the top of the screen and the Navionics web app at the top and my Hook and Line map on the floor. So basically I could bounce back and forth to different spots as everyone was talking about them. I would highly recommend anyone who has not done this to do so because this thread has gone on for so long you go through all the seasons. I really want to say thank you to Catt and the other guys on here that are constantly reporting.  Sorry I did not get back to ya'll on my last 2 days at the Bend but my report was horrible anyway.I think after reading it again it has given me a fresh perspective on how to approach some of the areas I was already in. I want to get back up there very soon but I work in the oilfield on land doing well testing/flow back for Cameron and my division has been very slow so I need to get back to work, so Im hoping any day I get a call to go on a job. I have been off for a month getting my salary check and its starting to hurt just a little.  Also there is a ton of videos on You tube about the Bend that I have been watching and on the home page here there is a video about some new crawfish bait that is out that looks awesome!  Thanks again, Scott Quote
TxGator Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Looks like a bunch of us out there this weekend. Ill be in the Indian/Buck/Mill areas. If yall see an old silver and blue aluminum Broadhead give me a wave. Â Gator Quote
