Good morning everyone  don't mean to get off  subject here as this is a great  thread that Catt  has  going, but I wanted to get the word out for  the kids around the area.   Ignition Bass YFL  (Youth Fishing League)  will be holding there first  youth fishing tournament of 2014  on Toledo bend going out of Fin anf Feather on Feb 15th.

This  a kids only format where  kids go out with a boat captain and only youth  are allowed to weigh fish. The  anglers   can be I think from 6 to 18, but compete in age groups so that they are  only competing against other youth  there age

I am adding the link to the web site below. My son HUnter will  be competing  for his third year this year and  loves the format  of  fishing against other  kids his age.  The reqular season event include plaques and trophys  with  larger prizes awarded at the championship.   I  encourage  anyone with kids who are interested in fishing to check it out   its a lot of fun  to watch.

This is the perfect place to post it & so would the general section.

I coach junior varsity/varsity PE, I'm teaching six ages 7-25 how to fish, I work with AWANA through my church, raised 6 kids & at 62 I'm raising 7 & 9 yr old grandkids.

You forgot to mention the countless individuals you have taught right here..........

But at any rate, may the Good Lord bless you for all of your humble efforts..............especially with the youthful ones!

I have been on the Red River for past couple of week ends and the only thing i have caught fish on has been a jig and craw and a sweet beaver grinding in the cover. SLOOOOOWWW all day. water 47 degrees. cant wait to get back on the Bend.

Ive got a feeling the river will be tough next week. Gonna be a grind for sure.

No dought Bass_Fanatic it has been tough. With a rise now in the river and all of this cold water it will be slow I have only found a couple of places that have any structure in it. I have never fished the red but from what i have seen i don't like it. I have fished Jetties, stumps, points and banks with very little success.

I talked to 3 friends who have camps in 6-Mile, Lowe's Creek, & Palo Goucho.

Freezing rain, sleet, & cold!

When is this global warming gonna kick in!

I wonder if Bass can spawn in 48 degree water    if the weather doesn't settle down  they may have to try   they are  bulging with eggs right now.   and weather  forecast calling for more rain next week and temps in 30's and 40's  maybe getting up to 60's during the day late next week.    heck they  may still be spawning when BASS gets here in May.

I talked with 3 friends with camps on the Big Pond

Jessie Lowe's: Bass are ready to bite but the weather keeps me off the water. Boated 12 yesterday on Wacky Worms, 12-14', very light bite on the drop.

Palo Gaucho: Boated 9, late afternoon, Norman DD22 around standing timber, creek channel, largest 5#.

Mill Creek (down south): Boated 17 all day, Carolina Rigged French Fry & Wacky Rigged Senko, fish scattered 10-18'

Sounds like the fish are holding  in deeper water close to spawning areas.    if the warming trend goes as forecast  with full moon Friday  should be at least some males  moving to spawning flats this weekend.

Wonder what the  water temp was  this weekend.   The weather today is probably  pushing it back down though.

Table Rock Laker here headed down to your neck of the woods after nearly 20 years away from Toledo Bend.  This is gonna be the longest work week ever!

The last time I was down there we always ate at a place called Bryce's Landing.  Sadly, I heard it closed.  Anyone have any recommendations for good eats around the lake?  We're staying in the Pendleton bridge area but we'll likely be traveling to multiple areas of the north section of the lake mid next week as well.  Would love to have a sweet tea and crawdad feast like we did when I was younger.

Thanks!

The owner of Fin&Feather posted some pictures on another forum yesterday of some fish weighed in at F&F. One was a 9.38, the other was a 12.57. Both reported catching them on traps worked over grass. Water temp reported was 47.

Regardless of cold, these fish are feeding heavy in prep for spawn.

I fished this past Sunday, and although I didn't land any big fish, I did quite well. I caught 16 fish. Only 3 weren't keepers, the largest was just a hair over 4lbs. then had 3 over 3lbs. All but 3 of the fish were caught on a trap. Warmest water I found all day was 50 degrees. These actively feeding fish are ganged up in small areas. Well, at least that was the case for me in the area I was fishing. I covered a lot of water and found all my fish in 3 small but similar spots. All were caught in less than 10 feet of water.
