RonnieF Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 An extra set of clothes is always a good idea this time of year. I'm planning on heading up Wednesday night. If y'all see a bass cat with purple/gold (closer to yellow) flames on the cowling, stop & say hi! Quote
Super User Catt Posted January 4, 2014 Author Super User Posted January 4, 2014 Six-mile said something no one caught, “The usual deep offshore spots don't seem to be holding an abundance fish, and i haven't got a clue as to why.” I realized this a few years back and set out to understand why, what I found was the bass had move towards the shallower feeding/spawning areas. You must understand this is very early pre-spawn and the bass will still be deep but on the move. I start looking at the cheek channel slowing search towards the shallow feeding/spawning areas. Once I mark fish I look to see if they are on or near the bottom and use appropriate techniques to catch em, the same if they are suspended. Henry, I aint saying ya can catch, ya just gonna have to work for em Quote
henrylewis Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 I saw a picture of a ULM Collage guy that caught four bass on New Years day between 6 and 8 pounds in the Twin Island area fishing with the A-rig and Lipless Crank Baits in 15-18 feet of water grass. The friend that had the picture told me he was headed up today to fish. I have not heard what he is catching but I would like to know what these tournaments way in in the next few weeks. Yes sir Quote
Super User Catt Posted January 6, 2014 Author Super User Posted January 6, 2014 Thank you catt Stay tuned! Extreme cold front now & then warming trend! Where ya launching? Quote
henrylewis Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 Fin & feather is where boat checks are but im trailering to my boaters launch Quote
TxGator Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 Hey yall, Im the boat driver for Henry, and Im open to suggestions as to where to go. Early weather reports today are showing 44 for a low and 70 for a high, and calling for 5-10mph winds. We will be in a 20' Broadhead so we should be safe to launch at Fin and Feather if thats a good area to fish out of. All of my experience on Toledo is South of 6 Mile on the Tx side. Ive heard a lot of good things about Housen over the years, so im thinking that we might want to head that way. Ill have to break out the map and see what I can find that looks good out in that area this evening. Im going to try and sit down with Henry to look at the map and decide where we want to try. It sounds like we should be looking for main creek channels, with good depth, then focusing on areas which offer good cover, preferably grass in the 15' range, with good drop offs and other types of cover. I told Henry when I agreed to captain their boat that I was NOT good at finding the fish. I try to think like a fish, but Ive found that they are smarter than I am. thanks for yalls help. Gator Quote
Super User Catt Posted January 6, 2014 Author Super User Posted January 6, 2014 Good deal Gator! I got texts sent out but so far no one gonna be on the water til Wed. Go look at the general section! Fin-N-Feather is in Housen` Bayou Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 The Community Hole at the mouth of Housen/White Oak should have some fish on it right now! Quote

Bearonthewater Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Fished yesterday from 5 to 30 fow. The only bites came in 12 fow next to grass in a creek channel. Caught them on red traps. Fished housen and six six mile. Tough day!!!! Next trip is lake falcon on new years eve!!!! Merry Christmas everyone!!! Well, ToledoMard928......... I haven't seen any posts regarding the trip to Lake Falcon.......... Did I miss it? Did it happen? I can't be the only one curious..............am I? Bear Quote
ToledoMard928 Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Bad weather pushed the trip from New Years eve to January 3 and 4th. It was tough, very tough. When we made our first cast on Friday it was 32 degrees..Falcon fish apparently don't like the cold. I was forced to go this time of year due to my sons school schedule and obligations later in the year. I will go back but it won't be in January, as we all know the weather is to hit and miss for that long of a drive. As tough as it was Falcon did show her colors...we did not have many bites but what we did was big. My son and I were able to put our personal bests in the boat. My sons was 6 and mine was 10.16. Falcon is an amazing place...anyone that loves bass fishing you owe it to yourself to make a trip! Quote

RonnieF Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 Today I set the hook on what I thought would be a free replica fish. New rod is loaded up. I move to the back deck to lip her easier only to see the ugliest 15 lb catfish with my jig in its mouth!! Oh well, the adrenaline was kicking hard for a bit! I caught 2 yesterday. A 13" Kentucky and one that was close to 8 lbs. connection here sucks so I can't post the pic. Fog was horrible today. 2 Quote
