six-mile C-Rig Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 Has anyone been on the water? yes.... I just got home from 9 straight days at the lake. First off, i want to warn everybody of an extreme potential hazard. This past week while running the Texas North/South lane i missed a stump by inches. Just east of housen, directly halfway between marker 62 and 63 there is a stump maybe 2 or 3 inches under the water. I had run this stretch 4 times previously in the past week and noticed nothing, then on saturday 6/9 there happend to be a light 1foot chop that made it visible between the waves, I saw it at the last moment and turned and barely missed it. very scary feeling when your traveling at 60mph... it is directly in between the markers, so if u can stay just on the west side of the markers. now to the fishing... fishing was very consistent the last week. Had several mornings that produced 8+ keepers while fishing from 5:30 till 9. The only morning that produced less than 5 keepers happend to produce the biggest bites. on tuesday 6/5 i had 3 keepers weighing just under 14 pounds. fish were a 3.7, 3.9, and 6.1 .... all the fish were caught on c-rig, crankbaits, and jigs. all fish were caught on offshore humps and mainlake points. here is a pic of the 6.1, normally i would have turned this fish back very quickly, but she inhaled my crankbait. it took me nearly 5 minutes to dig the treble out of her throat, and with all the blood loss this fish was dead before i ever got the bait out. Fish was 23 1/2 inches long. Quote

Dam Yankee Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 Home projects have had me off of the water lately. Went out today but, got a late start 0600. Launched at Army rec site and fished toro area. lots of grass. topwater produced early. backed off the shallows @ 1000hrs. and fished near deep water close to grass 15 to 25. I got blanked after the topwater bite. I mean not one hit. left @1230 due to no wind and a lot of heat. Which reminds me.....One lane is closed at the ramp at the army rec. The useable one is close to not being able to use as I had to let the rear axle of the trailer go off the edge of the concrete to get it loaded. I need to find another launch till this lake level comes up. Any suggestions? Quote
six-mile C-Rig Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 big bass just finished extending their launch and buckeye is still good. closer to army rec, i've used pirates in the last month so it probly still good. Quote
Super User Catt Posted July 12, 2011 Author Super User Posted July 12, 2011 As of 07/11/2011 the lake level is @ 162.77 (lowest level ever) The SRA is currently running 1 generator on the Sabine River 3 times a week for 2.5hrs. 4pm. to 630pm & while the Toro creek spillway gates are closed there is a water flow of 204 CFS. Both of these are to keep water in the Sabine & Toro. It would be sweet if anyone who has been on the lake lately would post what launches you used & conditions. six-mile C-Rig has listed Big Bass just finished extending their launch, Buckeye is still good, & Pirates in the last month so it probably still good. I’ve used the public launch @ 6-Mile which is still good, Fin-n-Feather is very low but still useable. Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 Pirates Cove is still good, I launched there last week. Quote
Super User Catt Posted July 13, 2011 Author Super User Posted July 13, 2011 From an extremely relievable source “Site 7 on the south Texas side is the launch I've been using. It's still in great shape” Quote
Dam Yankee Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 Thanks guys. Pirates cove if I wanna fish Louisiana side and site #7 on the texas side if I wanna fish texas side. That is the first one I come to isn't it Catt coming across from the dam? I launched one time a long time ago at the bridge in 6 mile. It's a pretty good clip from my house thoug going around the south end then north. I am not sure where buckeye and big bass launches are at though. I am starting to get a little nervous about the stumps in the boat lane as i hit one last weekend but no damage. I figure the less i run the less likely I am to hit one. I pretty much stick to south of pendleton bridge anyways. As far as a launch report i can say that if it gets any lower i would not use the Army rec launch Quote
Super User Catt Posted July 14, 2011 Author Super User Posted July 14, 2011 SRA Texas Recreation Site #7 is Near Burkeville, Tx.; extreme south end Take FM 692 north from Burkeville to R 255, west on R 255, 0.5 mile to park. (409) 565-2273. The launch @ the bridge that crosses Bayou La Nan; La Nan Landing or La Nan Marina? Quote
six-mile C-Rig Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 to get to big bass marina or buckeye from the dam, just take 191 north until you get to little flock road, take a left on to little flock, then take an immidiate right onto old hwy 476. From there just follow the signs. probably about another mile. btw, little flock road is roughly 10 miles north of army rec. road. so it's not too much further than where you are launching now. Quote
Dam Yankee Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 Thanks for the information guys. I think I am squared away now. I just need to make up my mind before I go what area I want to fish and keep the running to a minimum until it comes back up. That was the first time I have hit something in the boat lane and it woke me up real quick. It's not worth the risk to me. Also..this is on the topic of a boat launch report. http://nwlouisiana.ksla.com/news/environment/boat-launches-north-south-end-toledo-bend-closed/46508 Quote
Super User Catt Posted July 15, 2011 Author Super User Posted July 15, 2011 How y’all are? Today on the Big Pond 77 °F Fog/Mist wind calm 50% chance of showers & thunderstorms High near 95; heat index 103; calm wind becoming east between 5-10 mph. Ah but tonight! Full Moon! Mostly cloudy, low around 77. South wind 5-10 mph becoming calm. Can we say Buzzbait! Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Alright Catt, I know you went, so how'd ya do? I didn't get to make it up there this weekend, but I may try to fish Wednesday night/Thursday morning. Quote
Super User Catt Posted July 18, 2011 Author Super User Posted July 18, 2011 Aint caught a single bass on the buzz bait but they swallowed a craw worm! 9 bass that weighed 51.003 lbs Aint saying where!!! Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Dang, thats some quality fish. Im just not too sure where to put in at. I want to fish some humps at the mouth of Housen and Six Mile, but Im scared to run across the lake from Pirates Cove because of the low water. Are the boat lanes still fairly safe around Housen? Quote
Super User Catt Posted July 18, 2011 Author Super User Posted July 18, 2011 From Pirates Cove to the point between Housen & Six Mile should be safe; next follow the boat lane into either. The boat lane south of Community Flat in the mouth of Housen’ is a problem if you aint run it lately. From the mouth on Housen’ on the south side is good all the way to the back & the mouth of Six Mile to the bridge is good. Quote
