PondBoss Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Anyone have any good info and or recommendations on a guide service? Pretty nice that my wife suggested we go fishing on our honeymoon. We will be going in late April around the 21st ish. What kinda fising action can we expect then? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Matt Quote
Getfished Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Pondboss, Late April is a great time to go. The fishing is beginning to explode right now. Should be plenty of action then also. The number 1 guy I would recommend is Bill Babler. I would be surprised if he has any openings. I would contact him and if he can't take you he will have some good referral options for you. He is probably one of the best to guide on that lake. Go to Ozark Anglers.com and read the Table Rock forum in the meantime. You will get plenty of info. there. You can also post this same question in the forum under fishing locations in the central forum choice. Look up Lilley's Landing and Phil Lilly can help you also. Quote
flyboy Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Pondboss Table Rock for a honeymoon? Boy do I have a suggestion for you. This is not going to be cheap but it is your honeymoon; you have to splurge. A few years ago my wife and I spent a few days at Big Cedar Lodge. We were on a driving vacation and did not have our boat with us so we hired a guide while there. Check out there website; it is probably the only lodge of its type that the website is spot on. The developers of that place did not miss a trick as far as decor and landscaping go. If you are an outdoorsman and you had unlimited funds it is the way you would build your weekend lake cabin that could entertain about a hundred of your best buddies in style. The cabins are perfect for a honeymoon. Don't stay in the main lodge if you want something intimate. The guide they fixed us up with was great and showed us miles and miles of Table Rock with plenty of smallmouth. As I recall the food at the lodge was good but not fantastic but there are plenty of choices around. Branson is right up the road if you are interested in a show. Have a great Honeymoon. Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted March 28, 2011 Super User Posted March 28, 2011 There are lots of guides on various parts of the lake. One of them is Bill Babler who also owns a bed and breakfast. You could get an all in one with him. For just an all around guide Buster Loving is very good as is Steve Dickey. Quote
Mr SwimJig Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 X2 on Big Cedar Lodge, a fantastic place. You will not be disappointed with the Lodge or the fishing that time of year. SJ Quote
Shad_Master Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Check out Pete Wenners - it has been a long time since I hired him, but he was great 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 28, 2011 Global Moderator Posted March 28, 2011 X3 on the Big Cedar Lodge! It isn't cheap but I took my wife there a couple years ago and the place is amazing! The rooms are nice and there is plenty of other things to do around the resort. There's also some good places to eat on the resort. They rent boats or you can bring your own. I took mine and caught an 18 pound limit without ever leaving the cove it's in! If they aren't booked up it is worth the money! We stayed in the cheaper rooms but if you want something really nice then rent one of the cabins. They let us look around one of those and they were really nice! Quote
Daniel My Brother Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 I used Bill Babler last summer and we were real happy with him. Many good guides on that lake. Quote
srv1990 Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 For online information on The Rock, as someone already said, there isn't a better site than OzarkAnglers.com For guides: Bill Babler, Bill Beck, Don House, Rick Lapointe, Pete Wenners, Eric Prey... from what I've read about them they are all good, and if they are already booked (highly likely this late) they'll try to hook you up with a good guide. I go every year the week after Mother's day. Fishing can be very tough, seeing as how it's a deep, clear water reservoir. I'm sure a good guide will make a huge difference in your overall success. I wish I would have used a guide the first couple times I went down, but you live and learn. Good luck... and Congrats! Tom Quote
Bass XL Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 Bill Babbler is on the fish man. He caught a 9 pound largemouth the other day on top of everything Quote
srv1990 Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 Bill Babbler is on the fish man. He caught a 9 pound largemouth the other day on top of everything I read that the other day in one of his reports, unreal... what I would give to land one of those. Of course it helps that he's on the water 300+ days a year for who knows how many years, and knows exactly where the biggun's live! Quote
PondBoss Posted April 6, 2011 Author Posted April 6, 2011 I called Don House, and he was booked up. He got me hooked up with Philip Stone. Really looking forward to the experience. I've grown up always fishing water less then 10ft deep and when the water is super clear you get 5ft of visibility. I'm definitely looking forward to the experience and am sure I will learn a lot.
