Super User Hooligan Posted March 17, 2011 Super User Posted March 17, 2011 I've never fished it and have three tournaments there this year. Can't even find a decent map of it other than on IA DNR website. Quote
dwtaylor Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 IMO, the lake has the best population of 3-5 pound bass in the state. The lake has A LOT of timber in it and most of it is deep, actually its a no wake lake because there is so much timber. Its a standard lake as far as seasonal patterns go, but if I were to pick one presentation I would choose a jig. As far as where to fish...I cannot enclose that information lol. Its contour map is on a navionics chip and that gives a pretty good estimate on where to fish. My best advice is to become the most accurate caster you can be. Its very easy to lose dozens of lures in a day if you are not careful. It has that many trees in it. Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted March 19, 2011 Author Super User Posted March 19, 2011 Thanks for the heads up. I'm told there's a fantastic spring pattern up there, which I may head up for just "because". Quote
oteymc Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 I went up there in May last year, when I was living in IA. The lake was so clear then it wasn't even funny. I didn't catch a whole lot of bass, but didn't catch anything under 3lbs. There are a lot of big crappie in that lake also. Supposed to be a descent walleye population. We had a lot of fun, definitely worth going back. There is a forum, my outdoors IA, that a lot of people share info for the lakes in that area. Quote
JBoz Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 Watching this thread.... I need help on Brushy... it has handed me my lunch several times. Quote

I ran in to the same problems on maps of the lake. If you go to http://www.sportsmansconnection.com/ they have a map you can buy and print off as many times as you want for like $4-$5. They are great maps and also come with narrative on key points on the lake. Quote

Hooli, I found this map at the dnr web site. http://www.iowadnr.gov/fish/fishing/lakes/maps/brc94.pdf It also has gps coordinates to some "hot" spots. You might double check those coordinates though or maybe someone on here knows, but I went over to that lake about 4 years ago and had plugged a bunch coordinates into my gps and they were all off. After talking to a dnr offical at the lake, they knew they were incorrect. I would think (hope) they have them corrected by now. I am sure you have heard that they have a nice population of ski's over there as well. good luck. 1 Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted April 8, 2011 Author Super User Posted April 8, 2011 Yeah, it seems like that is the best map of it. I talked with a guy that's won several tournaments over there and it seems like a lake I should do fairly well on. From most accounts trying to pull fish out of the timber is rough, there's so much timber there it's really hard to differentiate the good from the not so good. Channel swings and primaries are key, from all accounts. I'm really looking forward to fishing this lake, I think we'll do well on it. Quote
dwtaylor Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Just wondering, what tournament are you fishing, as far as tournament organizations go and its date? Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted April 11, 2011 Author Super User Posted April 11, 2011 Just wondering, what tournament are you fishing, as far as tournament organizations go and its date? Club tournaments and possibly one other. The dates will be in May and June, I don't have the schedule on my PC. One in late April. Quote
