Fishin Hodge Posted February 25, 2011 Posted February 25, 2011 I am going to be in the Kansas City area next week with work and was thinking of trying to hit some good tackle stores in the area while I'm up there. I know there is Cabela's, but can anyone suggest some good local stores that I could hit while I was up there that might have something different? Quote
Super User KU_Bassmaster. Posted February 25, 2011 Super User Posted February 25, 2011 Most are gone. Depending on where you are at, Roger's Sporting Goods is a pretty good store with very good prices. It's about a 20 minutes drive from downtown Kansas City. http://store.rogerssportinggoods.com/servlet/StoreFront Quote
Getfished Posted February 25, 2011 Posted February 25, 2011 There is also Bass Pro Shops. One in Olathe off of I-35 at 119th, and the other one in Independence off of I-70 Quote

I think they have a better selection of lures than the two big retailers and their rod and reel selection is just as good too. Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted February 25, 2011 Super User Posted February 25, 2011 I spend money in Rogers from time to time. I like going into stores where the staff is always nice to you and will try to answer your questions, even if they are dumb questions. From time to time I patronize BPS and Cabelas, but I know better than to try to ask questions there because most all the help is part time and they are there for a job. Very few people in the fishing tackle sections are informed about fishing. I always get the feeling that they are repeating stuff to me that they've heard other customers say. Quote
Fishin Hodge Posted February 26, 2011 Author Posted February 26, 2011 Appreciate the help guys. Quote
Madd Lunacy Posted February 26, 2011 Posted February 26, 2011 Roger's for sure. Their rod and reel prices are very low. Quote

He carries the stuff BPS and Cabela's don't. If BPS carries 5 colors of a certain lure, Roger's has all 12. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 26, 2011 Global Moderator Posted February 26, 2011 Roger's has the lowest prices you will find on most rods and reels new in a tackle store and a great selection of lures. Quote
Mid-MO Posted February 26, 2011 Posted February 26, 2011 Rogers is definately worth the trip. You can find some stuff there that Bass Pro doesn't carry and almost all of their lures are cheaper there. They are also very good to work with (will even ship you stuff in an emergency during a tournament if needed). There just aren't many local tackle shops - good one in Columbia (Tombstone), decent one in Clinton (Everharts), a few around LOZ. Quote
Super User skunked_again Posted February 27, 2011 Super User Posted February 27, 2011 i used to buy stuff from the Rogers in Lamar. ive also spent many hours on a boat with the guy. he is a master fly fisherman. Quote
BassThumb Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 Are there any Academy stores in KC? I will down there in June for some Royals games and I'd like to pick up a couple handfuls of CRS cranks. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 3, 2011 Global Moderator Posted March 3, 2011 Closest Academy in in Joplin Missouri, about 2 hours away. They have a bunch of stuff and it is worth the drive to stock up on baits but driving through downtown Joplin is a nightmare. Quote
Mr SwimJig Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 Rogers for sure. Great selection of baits and great prices and everyone is very friendly. Also gives me a good excuse to goto Smoke Box BBQ and Maggie Moos Ice Cream. SJ Quote
